A new Sticky
Are you saying you want a topic from Anet detailing what is possible and how long different things will take? Or simply a topic reminding us to take that into consideration when posting ideas?
The first one is a bit of a “how long is a piece of string?” question. How long things take to do depends on a huge number of factors, like what else the people involved need to do at the same time. In some cases they may not even know if a change is possible or not until they start trying to do it. (I think this happened with shared inventory slots? I’m sure early on we were told it wasn’t possible, then someone figured it out.)
And the second one I’m not sure would make any difference because people would either forget they’d been told or they won’t know enough about game design and Anet’s current plans to know how it might affect their idea. I know enough to understand that the people who design gliders for the crown store are not the same ones who make balance changes or write the storylines, and that all of those people will do other things as well. But I don’t know what else they do or what they’re working on right now. Which means I have no idea if requesting a new glider skin is more or less reasonable than requesting more dialogue in the next story chapter or quicker balance updates.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Like I said, I don’t know if it’s possible to do, but all I am saying is can it hurt to suggest to players that they consider some of these issues, or issues more pertinent to Anet, before posting a suggestion?
As few people who read Stickies before posting, I’m not sure how much effect it would have.
Also, an idea/suggestion that may not be feasible, may spark another idea that would be feasible for the Devs, by players, or by the Devs themselves. Remember the CDIs?
Good luck.
I understand entirely and wouldn’t want to stifle creativity or resulting creativity.
At the same time, many suggestion posted, if implemented, would require the game to go to a monthly fee. There are lots of excellent suggestions that seem to totally miss this point, among others.
I’m guessing that among frequent posters that have already commented in this thread (Inculpatus, Danikat, Tumult, & myself):
- Only about half of us have read and remember more than half the stickies.
- At least 75% of us are probably already doing what the sticky recommends.
The main value of a sticky note is so that frequent posters can link to it rather than having to type out the same details.
Consequently, if you want to see a sticky on the topic of considering cost, benefit:cost, and aligning to ANet’s vision… I’d recommend that you write up something yourself. If it’s good, then I know that I’d be likely to quote-from/link-to it and I suspect so would the other frequent posters.
If post is linked/quoted enough, Gaile might even do so herself, elevating it to virtual stickiness.
Having looked at the stickies for the first time in ages and realised that no, I don’t remember all of them, I think it might make more sense to ask Gaile to add something into this topic: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/How-to-Give-Good-Feedback-1
That way all the info players need when posting a suggestion is all in one place.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Yes, that’s better. I was just trying to catch their eye to see if they were interested in possibly making the suggestions they receive more likely possible. I understand they rely on the players to promote the best ideas and I thought that might be easier with a few basic phrases on what clearly isn’t possible.
I did check the stickys before posting and it had been a long time, years, for all but the “how to give good feedback”.
