A newbie looking for some feedback...
It is worth sticking with.
Most of the negativity is overreacting and most of it comes from the same group of people.
Also keep in mind that happy customers tend to play the game and such instead of shouting about things on the forums.

Well I guess happy players also disguise themselves as monsters because I don’t see them in game. Don’t get me wrong it is a good game and I like it but the player count is getting shockingly low.

Depends on the server I would say.
I have yet to see a single EU server being labeled as Low during the times I play. And I have yet to get into Lion’s Arch without first having to be at the overflow for quite some time.

@gamingtito.4709 Despite some questionable decisions being made by ANet regarding this game (from which most of the complaints arise), it is worth playing and overall it will give you a nice experience. So stick with it but my advice would be to try not to put any real money into it.

FotM players in LA don’t really count though.
Definitely worth sticking to at least until you levelled to cap. That said, I don’t agree on the “happy customers don’t post” part, or rather its implication that all the non-posters are happy. Since the number of players will always exceed the number of posters, that means that whatever happens to the game, players will always be happy.
lordkrall, ANet staff could not answer it better…ahah.
gamingtito, the game is worth playing and there are many motives for you to enjoy the game, so keep playing and enjoying it. Concerning the forums, if you invest a bit of time reading them you will realize that there are a lot of people pointing out much needed improvements (not just the same group of people like lordkrall said). A lot of very good feedback has been given by the player base (even if through negative posts) and lets hope ANet listens. Anyway, you will find a lot of information about the game from the posts, positive or negative, so I think you should invest some time reading them.
Best regards,

And those players stood there even before the release of FotM I take it?

Are you having fun? If yes, continue playing until you stop having fun
Don’t allow your enjoyment of something to be lowered by other people’s problems. Actually, don’t read anything in the forums that is not a sticky thread and you’ll be able to remain perfectly happy for quite some time.

no wonder they forced players to run 120 times the new dungeon in LA…
Also being hard to find a group due to fractal level hudreds people wait in LA spamming the chat.
FInally i think Anet lowered the population cap ..
High is not a number and can be changed…
If server displayed players would be a different thing.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
It has its ups and downs like every other game.
You’re not seeing all the players happily playing GW2, they don’t spend much time here, except for a thank you note now and then.
If you’re a highly competitive player that has to have the top tier gear or is looking for WoW style raiding, there’s not a lot of that here except long grinds for “Legendary” items you get by chucking endless mats in a slot machine. If on the other hand you enjoy general PvE, exploring or think that skill > gear in PvP, it’s definitely worth sticking with the game for a while.
In my experience, leveling to 15 was easy and quick, then 15-30 was a bit slow and after 30 your new skills and traits make the game more fun up to 80. Once you’re 80, if you work hard, you achieve a plateau fairly quickly. You can have full “Exotic” gear in a few days, then it’s up to you to do what you like. There’s pvp, WvWvW, exploring the world, or farming “Ascended” and “Legendary” gear that will take weeks or months of repetitive content.
As long as you are enjoying playing the game, then you should stick with it. It’s a really good game and very refreshing after playing other older MMO’s on the market.
The forum community doesn’t bear much similarity to anything I’ve seen in game and if you’re new to GW2 my advice would be to stay off the forums and enjoy exploring the game.
If you need help with anything, the wiki covers pretty much any question you’d need to ask. You can also open the wiki quickly by typing /wiki in-game.
MMO forums are well known for being fonts of negativity and complaining and I wouldn’t put too much stock in the forum attitude. For example, WoW is 8 years old now. According to their forums, the game has been “dying” for most of that time.

You know Every game that has failed people have said this. Do you know that you are doing Anet no favors by you falling into typical human reaction of thinking you are in the majority. Same thing happened to GoP during last election and is still happening. People think their views are only right ones and thus everyone must have them. So from now on state your opinion and leave it at that. Don’t make up fantasy situations that you can have no idea if true or not.
Hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving,
I’m new to the guild wars world and I’ve enjoyed playing with my Asura engineer over the last couple of days. However I am seeing quite a bit of negative feedback towards the game on the forum.
In all honesty, is this a game worth sticking with or is it one already in a state of decline?
Forums are the last place you should get an opinion on a game from. I have never gone to a games forum where there wasn’t kittening about something or other.
Not. A. Single. Game.
If you are enjoying yourself, why would you care what anyone on the forums say? Enjoy the game.

Uhu….the WoW comparison….:)
Luckily for GW2 a lot less people play WoW nowadays..:)
Echoing other posters here,
Some people have issues with the direction the game is taking (me included) but you should’ent let that sway you. If you personally are enjoying the game then play on !!
At the point you find the game un-fun .. walk away. With no sub you are free to return whenever you want to check out future updates. (I plan to)
The forums have become a cesspit recently, both sides are guilty of this. I see posts which I feel are constructive and well articulated from both sides of the fence, those who like the new direction and those who don’t, and the vitriol spewed at them from members of the opposing camp (both camps do this) is saddening.
Hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving,

Stick with it, play your story through, make some friends, do some jumping puzzles, play some PvP, get to the level cap and see how you feel then.
You bought the game you may as well play it through until you stop having fun.
There’s an entire game to play before you get to the segment of the game the majority of the negative posts are concerning.

Sure, but an informed consumer will look at all aspects.
It was pretty clear that (as per your example) WoW had negative feedback, but was also still gaining in popularity. Whereas games such as Warhammer and TOR and shockingly enough pre-cu SWG (as a few examples) were not.
Heres hoping GW2 falls under the former.

As to the OP, if you like it, stick with it, its still a “young” MMO, with lots of room to grow.
You are responsible for your own good time. You can have it in this game or another. The choice is up to you.
I’m a new player too and today is the first day i checked out this forum and is really overwhelming. Constant hate posts that game + Anet sucks. I remember all the hype from promoting the video and friends that played on launch were like “omg best game ever” and now this.
I play it for 1 week but so far i’m satisfied with it. Does this game have future ?

Of course it does
Millions of happy players in the game. Forums are getting hate bombed by people with an agenda for another game.
the game is huge/beautiful/fun.
but at endgame is stink. and unfortunately, putting all endgame people at the same place, kind of makes the game more “diablo 3” than a lively world.
just avoid lions arch, stick to your hometown youll avoid the madness.
just too bad for the story mode dungeon, good luck finding a group..

I have nearly 800 hours of played time on GW2 and I’m still enjoying it. I briefly played my previous MMO’s recently and they feel static, lifeless and very old and out of date compared to GW2.
As long as you personally are enjoying it, keep playing. You certainly aren’t the only one who likes the game.
800h… omg.
i see now how some people can possibly have full map completion + being fractal 20 already.
wow. astounding.
i guess the fractals where designed for players in your category. (not saying you in particular, but people as dedicated as you).
if you can do 1 dungeon “story” mode a week to help the casuals who cant do their story mode… that would be very nice of you

It’s worth sticking to. The game is still young, with plenty of time to grow and recover from mistakes.
Plus I’ve played worse MMOs than this for long enough to know the difference between players overreacting and a game genuinely being in decline.
I’m still enjoying levelling my character. Does the game have problems? yes. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t, but other MMOs around at the moment make GW2’s problems look like a drop in the ocean

I have been helping out guild members who need to get story modes and lower level fractals done. Usually I pug random explorable modes quite often when I see people looking for a few more, because I really enjoy dungeons and they’re a much more fun way to make gold than farming. I’ve pugged level 1 &2 fractals, but I’m a bit wary of the higher ones without a guild group since voice comms make a big difference.
I’ll try to fit in the odd story pug when there’s nothing going on in the guild. I do appreciate it can be annoying to find a group for certain dungeons if you’re pugging and there’s no dungeon finder around. It has been very hard to get a group for CoE explorable, for example. Most people seem to go for TA and CoF explorable.
And yes, I love the fractals! The boss fights are a lot more interesting than the ones in the old dungeons. Plus not only do you get a random set of fractals each time, but each fractal has multiple paths! The variety, plus constant difficulty increases is an amazing idea. I’m really looking forward to them adding new fractals to the instance.

If you are a newbie here is some useful tips for you:
1) Stop coming to the forum. It has become very sour lately for various reasons. I would suggest you go to more positive fans sites like GW2 guru, GW2 insiders, etc.
2) I started off with a Asuran engineer too but soon rolled a warrior and a elementist. Engineers are hard to play if this is your first time around the game. You may want to finish the game with a warrior first.
I hope you enjoy the game as many of us do. Just ignore the negativity on this forum. Find a helpful guild in your server and you will love this game.

That’s the big question. It certainly has a big potential, but whether it’ll be realized or squandered is being decided just now.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
If you enjoy WOW or similar games, but like this better, it’s good to stick with. If you were hoping to escape that sort of game, I’d turn right back around.
If you determine fun based upon the actual activity you are doing, in this case playing GW2, and you are having fun, then yes keep playing.
If you determine fun based upon what anonymous users on the internet tell you to think about an activity then you should probably quit all MMOs and most everything else in life too for that matter.
If you determine fun by creating a thread to troll people with then congrats!

And miss everything else apart from the tiny fraction of the game that is Fractals?
That’s awful advice, he has already purchased the game, and is still relatively low level. There’s so much more to do in the game before you even consider starting to worry about your level 80 gear.
There’s no rush, enjoy the game you’ve paid for.
It is good.
Was better.
It can get better again.. I hope. (especially if the drop rates return to how they were)

dont look at the forums. this is merely a small part of the big guild wars community. in game all is fine if you are not into the hardcore farming. then not a single game will ever please most people specially not guild wars as it is really brought as a game for the casual and the more experienced gamer (see the fact that it says casual first also by arena net as i can recall).
the forums are at this point just a hate filled area wich should not undermine the game in any way or form.
this ofcourse is just my own opinion. if someone does not agree with this i’m ok with that, just do not go all hating on me for giving my own opinion. i let you give your own opninions aswell.
If its possible for you to get a refund, I’d get it and not look back. While you may not understand why people are posting such complaints while you are in a starter zone, You will understand soon enough. The game was kinda fun in the beginning, but once that new game smell wears off you realize there’s not much new here.
Of course, you can just play until you are no longer having fun anymore. Who knows? you may be one of those people who love the game. I hope you are, I wasn’t.
its fun until it becomes a grind, or that you cant find group for story dungeon.
but really, thats about 250h or more into the game.
so, not bad
For the price-tag of the game you will definitely have fun with it. It’s more of a pick-up-and-play type of game that you can come back to whenever you like if you’ve burnt yourself out on it.
The simple fact remains, there are a lot of negative and positive things on the forum. You have to decide whether they actually affect your playstyle or not.
Currently none of the changes have affected me and i’m having fun. I hope you get the same out of the game.
There are many who have played 400+ hours and then say they have run out of content. In my opinion, that’s fantastic. If they ran out of content at 40 hours that would still be perfectly fine for the price-tag.
It’s a non-sub game. Get stuck in and honestly, take the forums with a massive barrel of salt, both approaching the negative and positive fronts.
Hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving,
In all honesty, is this a game worth sticking with or is it one already in a state of decline?
Stick with it until it ceases to be fun. No point giving something up that you enjoy because you might not enjoy it in the future.
Protip: Ignore those talking about how the game is “in trouble” or the game “is dying” – at 9:45 a.m., PST, all servers were high or full. They enjoy being melodramatic.
Full or high servers mean that there’s a lot of accounts tied to the server. Doesn’t mean there area lot of people on them. You can be on such a server and it be empty.
Here’s a protip for you: Ignoring problems does not make them go away. This game has problems. However, if you like the game then I hope you have fun in it. Same goes for OP.
Tip: if you like a game (any game), stay off it’s official forums. there’s usually way too much negativity and it can be infectious.

I think being new to GW may play to your advantage. May people who played GW1 for years had certain expectations of this game. It was supposed to be low grind. There was not supposed to be an emphasis on gear stat grind. (The manifesto said as much too) A series of blunders and changes which no one signed on for irked the player base. That is why you are seeing such volume of negativity here.
I have an opinion: I don’t think the game is fun anymore. It’s also not what I was promised. Changes implemented seemed to make things worse and worse. That said, If you are having fun = that is all that counts.
(edited by SHM.7628)
You are witnessing a PR event in action. The negativity almost all addresses a misstep Anet made in introducing a gear grind in thinly veiled disingenuous words. If they reverse themselves and stay true to their vision the event you are witnessing will subside within hours. Then the only negativity you will see will be from those who bought a basketball and want to play football with it, and probably insignificant in comparison. The game is great and if Anet succeeds in navigating the waters of their first major PR event in GW2, the game should only get better in the coming years.
As someone who is unhappy with guildwars 2, I say stick with it. People on forums will voice being unhappy while people who are happy will not for the most part. Personally I think the better half are still happy with this game.
Even if you don’t like it. Always worth coming back too see whats changed.
It really depends of the type of player you are. Since you bought the game, it’s worth to play it to level cap. Imo, the experience to level cap is one of the best I’ve experienced among mmos. Once you reached level 80, try do things like dungeons and fractal of the mists. You may experience end-contents positively or negatively depending on your personal taste. After awhile of tasting the end-game content, you can chose to put it back onto your shelves like your console games or be dedicated to it as a mmorpg.
You’re loving the game now, so don’t stop just because a group of people post negatively. Those players are only giving feedbacks. Every mmorpg has their share of negative comments in forums.
There are several example of how Anet seeks to improve the game on many levels, for many types of players. Here is a response in the News and Announcements section concerning the introduction of Ascended gear, from almost 9 days ago. :
This helps provide perspective on what the ascended gear is all about, Anet’s intentions, and their desire to please the community.
Sometimes change is hard for people to swallow. Its human nature, and that’s why you see all the negative posts. Rest assured, its nothing game-breaking. In fact, it can only help to improve its longevity.
Also, there will be a Q&A session on Reddit:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/AMA-with-Chris-Whiteside-on-Monday-November-26
The developers and designers care about the game and its community. They are quite active in their responses, and they have a sound plan to move forward. Couple that with an excellent game, and you have a winning formula for success. I have no doubt the game will be around for quite a while.
As others have pointed out, the official forums are not always the best place to find the most objective of opinions. For new players, both guildwars2forum.com and the Guildwars2 subreddit has great information, along with the official wiki.
Have fun out there! Most of us are.

Despite those who despise anyone saying anything negative about the direction Anet is taking and who try to minimize the complaints of others by making them seem unreasonable crazed terrorists who want to ruin other people’s fun, this game is worth sticking with.
There are serious concerns but I’m sure Anet will address them in time. They are most likely gathering their statements and bug teams together after the holidays to get the work completely that will return the current state of the game to it’s former glory (which was only 1 month ago btw).
I plan on sticking around to find out if they will be taking their players reasonable and just concerns seriously in future patches.
I would suggest sticking around to find out what happens next yourself.
Aside from the loot magicfind and profession bugs It’s a great game. We’ll just have to wait to see if they will be making the fixes that are needed in upcoming patches which will quiet the forums for the most part.

Actually it does.
Otherwise the full servers would always be full, but yet they can go from full to high and back to full during a day, based on time.
They seem to based it around the amount of people that are ONLINE not the amount of people that have it as a home-server
