a lot of the stresses that people are experiencing right now are cultural. Players (many of which have spent several hundred hours experiencing content), are now doing fractals and have no interest in doing the older dungeons.

Is this not to be expected? How many times can you repeat a task before it gets kind of old?

So ofcourse Anet tried to keep their fanbase happy, they produce new content FREE OF CHARGE. To keep their cash cows content. Thats perfectly fine, a great idea from the company. In the meantime they work to appease some of their customers. They essentially add legendary accessories/armor (in the future). Now the people who have experienced several hundred hours of Guild Wars 2 have something new to aim for. They work to attain it.

Meanwhile, the newer players without several hundred gold in their bank accounts and are pimping rares are whining, because they cant essentially find a group instantly for any dungeon they want to run. The player base has fractured, because some people are further along than they are.

These players voice their displeasure with the fact people have invested more time into things than them (generally). Then the forums become a raging troll bonfire of annoyance.

so whats the solution?

Its pretty simple, socialize, make friends, join a guild. (hell im an introvert myself, I know it can be heard to make friends with random joe. Seriously though just find a large active guild that alone can save you a lot of time) The more you invest in the guild the more people respect you, the more people respect you the more likely you can convince them to run older dungeons with you.

As for the power of ascended armor, name a single game in the world that has equipable armor that does not have a power curve.

As long as they balance dungeons around the gear most available at level 80, there should never be a problem in the pve environment. As for WVW, it can be sort of unfair, but at the same time. I’ve never felt like I was weak in exotics versus a foe with a legendary, and while ascended gear will open the gap a bit. I am going to assume that ascended armor will not be so much greater than exotic, as ANet is more than aware of their #s. (so essentially WVW is a wait and see situation)

Thanks.

Guildwars 1 had no gear progression at max level at all. That’s why I loved and enjoyed it that much for the last 7 years.

That’s because Legendary Weapons are the same power as Exotics …. they are only a cosmetic upgrade.

I have no real opinion on ascended stuff in general, what i do mind is, that the new dungeon killed what was left of the ‘old’ world’s population and older dungeons.

Now it’s just sit on LA and spam lfg FoTM.
If you seriously think that after 3 months from launch, old dungeons should get THAT old so no one runs them anymore, then something has gone terribly wrong.

Why do you feel the need to explain to others what they are complaining about?
Don’t you think they can figure out for themselves?

So all the complaints can be reduced to newer players complaining the older players are ahead of them?

That’s ‘a perspective’ indeed.

Mostly it’s your perspective and it’s a very limited one at that.

The point you are obviously missing is that there are tons of games out there that already provide this type of experience.

Anet promised a game that was different and this appealed to many people. What happened is that there’s a lot of people burnt out on other MMOs that saw this game as the new game to jump to, not realising it was different. These people became a large part of a community that wasn’t meant for them. So Anet looked at some metrics and saw dollar signs when this many people bought their game, but then people started leaving because they realised this game didn’t offer the carrot.

So they kept their pink glasses on and thought that almost everybody wanted this. They were insanely naive to think this because their original fanbase was used to GW1 which didn’t have a treadmill as max stats were fixed and have been fixed for over 7 years. And they did find ways to make it interesting.

And all these things that made farming worthwhile in GW1 they threw out. I cannot even begin to understand the level of insanity that they must’ve suffered to do that. And instead they cater to their new fans and start the same old gear treadmill.

So here’s the problem.

A large part of the original fanbase and people who were looking for a more relaxing game to play have been alienated.

Now, that leaves the people who are still hoping for changes, people who accept and are ok with this and those who wanted this.

The ones hoping for chance will be disappointment in my view. I don’t see this being turned back. The damage is done.

The people who accept even though this wasn’t what they bought the game for may stay, but this group is not that big in my estimation.

And the people who screamed for the treadmill will still get bored and therefore will start complaining again with a matter of months or even weeks.

It’s a downward spiral that every other MMO has had except maybe WoW. And from this lesson nobody learns.

Your assumptions also don’t hold water.

Ascended gear is better statistically and infusions also add even more stats and not just the resistance. The difference is significant especially in WvW but even more so, we know from Anet that more of this gear will come so you can fully equip in ascended gear and that infusions will be required for future content. Not just FotM.

Add to that the comment that they won’t be like other games and release a new tier every three months and we can conclude that there will be new tiers after this, just not as fast as in other games. This is the logical implication.

Now if you like that, that’s fine, but the truth is that this will bore people like it does in other games. I am sure GW2 will survive but I think the peak has been reached already because of this new direction. It will start hemorrhaging players like any other MMO and as much as it is without sub making it easy to come back to it, it’s also just as easy to step away from it. And for me that is because the world doesn’t really have a pull. Interestingly GW1 does have that pull still because it felt like a great place to be.

You see, I don’t need another perspective on this because for me the determining factor in playing GW2 was the fact that it WAS non-gear centric as far as treadmills go. Now that they go the same way, my main reason is gone and I am happily playing another MMO again. Why? Because I like good stories and voice acting, I like a simple quest log because it’s me who decides what I do next and not the game telling me when I get to do something. Events are kinda fun but having to spend money to travel places to see if events are active or not is just not what I really want.

Needless to say I feel GW2 doesn’t deliver in these areas like other MMOs and now the main argument for me is gone, I stopped playing. You can say all you want about how it’s not so bad but if I wanted this experience I can play another game that’s better at this…and so I am.

It’s a game forum. The truth is not to be found here.

The point of my post was to explain, that relying on strangers to be the basis of your entertainment in guild wars 2 is a bad move, and that investing in friends/guilds/being social is essentially the easiest way to be able to run dungeons.

Friends are more likely to run dungeons with you, then give you the cold shoulder of a stranger who just wants to run some things for some coins, and it is not the fault of ANet that the general population who has no affiliation with you has decided that they liked fractals a lot and choose not to do the dungeons that they have already ran 104380923842 times.

Ascended gear is just a symptom of the larger picture of how the game has begun to shift.
I really think they rushed this out. I don’t think it’s ever a good thing when a game the size and scope of GW2 focuses its player base into one dungeon and reduces player options on how to get into the top gear in the game.

I also really don’t think the scaling concept for this dungeon is worth the fractures it creates between players.

Nearly every game mechanic introduced with this patch goes against their original design ideologies.
