Guild Wars 2

Hi all,

As someone who bought GW Prophercies on the day of the release ad played it for nearly 7 years, I recently got a bit nostalgic and would like to start playing the game again.

I have played GW2 as a casual player for nearly 4 years as well, however really miss the story, depth and complexity of the first game.

The only thing I was wondering if there is still some kind of active community and to make sure there are no plans to “close” the game anyime soon.

It has always been a shame they did not update the core game’s (Prophercies, Factions and Nightfall) graphics when they released the Eye of the North expansion.

There is an active community. I highly suggest joining a guild. Almost everything in the game can be done with heroes.

Can’t seem to find an overview of large guilds unfortunately. Any one has a top 5?

I meant you might try asking your questions in the Guild Wars forum instead of the Guild Wars 2 forum. They’re more likely to know or to be able to direct you to a site that has the information.

ANet has put GW1 on “automated mode”, meaning it will run as long as the servers remain up and since it uses some of the same infrastructure as GW2, it will run at least as long as this game (maybe longer, since this game probably can’t run in automated mode without a year of updates).

I wouldn’t trust any list of “active guilds” for GW2, never mind for GW1 — no one in the history of whenever has ever maintained accurate lists for more than about a month.

Instead, I’d start, in your shoes, I’d just start playing again, see how much you like it. And then start looking around for guild recruiters. Some of the 1000-person guilds will recruit and those that don’t will be known by the better recruiters. Start a few conversations to get the lay of the land.

Meantime, GW1 is easily soloed. There are plenty of guides, the wiki is amazingly comprehensive, and there are lots of build templates available for heroes
