So basically im planning on giving this game a go again. Last time i played was release date where i did get an engineer to level 80 but kinda got bored at that point as the end game seemed a little lacking back then.

Its now been about 3 years since then and i did hear its got an expansion coming up, so how is the game doing now? Is it still a pretty popular game?

And also what is it like to level a class from scratch now? Are there still plenty of people to meet and work with? The social aspect of mmorpg’s always got me, but games like WoW are awful to level from scratch in because all zones are empty untill you reach max level.

Thanks a lot

I’ve been playing since release as well, though I took a break a while back. Honestly, the game’s better now than it’s ever been. Endgame is still a bit lacking, but there are a few things to do once you’ve hit 80. WvW is pretty much the same as always (though it’s much easier to get into maps now for most servers), dungeons are fun to run (not the most lucrative but still not bad), Fractals are the snazzy end-game PvE right now, and Heart of Thorns is about to come out and will include the game’s first raid content.

Leveling from scratch is actually much easier than it used to be. If your original character is still around, you’ll probably get a couple Experience Scrolls from birthday gifts, which means you’ll be able to level a few new characters up to level 20 or 30 immediately. Additionally, Anet rebalanced the starter maps so they’re much easier for new characters to get through.

As for population, I generally see a good number of people running around through most maps. The Megaserver architecture helps by pushing people from across servers together into single instances, but also the game recently added a free-to-play option for the base game which has drawn a lot of new players in.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.

Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

To start: You couldn’t have picked a better time to return in the game.
The population is huge. In every area, there’s people doing events and quests. You will have as much fun starting a new character from scratch as you will if you join with lvl 80 character. There’s always people to do any open world content/dungeons/fractals/sPvP. The only place you may notice low population is WvW if you’re on less populated server, since its the only content in the game separated from the Megaserver. There will be even more increase in population when the expansion release after 1 month. So, just as I said before, this is the best time to return into the game.
Welcome back!

1. If you plan to do any WvW whatsoever, check server status, if your server is classified as “medium” transfer off immediately as it means it is dead or might as well be so. Check detailed server info for respective applicable timezones etc. if you decide to transfer so you dont get stuck on another wrong server.

2. Leveling is extremely easy now, you can level very quick via SPVP or PVE and largely self explanatory.

3. Pick 1 or 2 of your returning professions, check their respective forums, ask for detailed leveling advice and some build guidelines. Many people will help you out, a lot.

4. Join a leveling guild, due to megaserver joining such a guild will help you out greatly, do not be afraid to join content specializing or another guild once you are pass lvl 80 and find out which specific aspects of the game you like the most.

what exactly do you want to do? =c
My “endgame” is dungeons and fractals(and maybe raids in the xpack), for some people is spvp/WvWvW and for some both and all the other things in between.
As stated above leveing is very easy now.
Just pop your birthday boosters on an alt and eventual tomes of knowledge.
