Will we ever be able to acquire/buy the town costumes that the npc’s wear?

I’ve been wondering about this since the first day Guild Wars 2 came out, and I just need to know if I’m wasting my time waiting for them to come out. An solid official answer would be most appreciated… I’ve asked the GM’s in game a few times in the past as well, but they never responded.
This issue is not a core issue, but more of a quality of life issue.

Anyways, here’s a few pics of what I’m talking about.

Ever is a pretty long time and since they can’t answer no, since they would be saying never, which is rarely promised, their answer defaults to yes.

Much as I like some of those outfits, I wouldn’t hold my breath for a yes or no answer. The best you might get is a “We don’t have any plans with those outfits at this time,” unless the answer is “Yes, they’re coming very soon!” Anything else just runs too much risk of being held up as a broken promise two months later if things don’t go just as planned. (So, I think it’s reasonable to just avoid saying anything, if they can’t give certain good news.)

Also, you mentioned asking GMs in game, by which I assume you mean ArenaNet staff: Just remember that they might not, as individuals, have any idea what plans are for any job but their own, they might not be eager to announce something casually in chat without getting a more formal go-ahead, and they might not want to be pestered with “What plans are there that haven’t been announced yet?” questions when they’re playing the game.

I mean, I can’t blame people for wanting to ask them, but I’d be more surprised if you did and got a real response than if you did and got no response at all. It’s like asking writers or actors for spoilers; “no comment” is just the safest, easiest answer to unexpected questions.

can’t answer simply with yes or no. 15 characters.

…People do realize they can just type extra spaces, right? The /15char thing is pretty unnecessary.

Theoretically the whole armor system has been designed specifically to make this not only possible, but easy. In retrospect however it’s easy to see that something went wrong big time with its implementation, and they failed at this goal. Most likely cause are the Asura/Charr races that require separate skin versions.
So no, i wouldn’t expect for anything like that to happen. It’s certainly possible for Anet to introduce some armor sets that would be based on existing NPC looks (like it happened with kasmeer armor), but that is not going to happen often, or in large quantities.

I hope they will be added in the near future, we should be able to purchase clothing from say, a cultural karma vendor. I would totally enjoy running around completing different events, knowing that I would be rewarded by being able to dress up all my characters! grins

I don’t think Asura or Charr would stall the implementation of such things though. I mean shouldn’t town clothes be generally culturally restricted by default? I’ve seen different sets on all races’ NPC’s.

A number of the existing town clothes for sale in the gemstore have been removed as of today. (This was announced a week ago.) Specifically, what was removed was the following:
Wide Rim Glasses, Sports Sunglasses, Aviator Sunglasses, Bunny Ears, Boxing Gloves, Cargo Shorts, the Air Rider package, and the various shirts/vests/hoodies.

The reason given was that ArenaNet was “streamlining the style section of the gemstore”.
This could mean that there will be a renewed effort at introducing new (sets of) town clothes.
Or it could mean that the removed items will be reworked as armor skins at some point in the future.
Or it could mean that the Gemstore style section will be completely revamped (with a new subsection for town clothes).
Or it could mean that they merely removed items that were not selling well.

However, there is no reason to fear that town clothes will be removed entirely. The Cook’s Outfit and Pirate Captain’s Outfit remain, as well as many of the separate town clothes items and toys. In fact, last year’s Winter Outfit has just returned for sale.

Will we ever be able to acquire/buy the town costumes that the npc’s wear?

I should note that the top worn by the female human in your fourth image from the top is actually provided as part of the standard town clothes when you created a female human character.
(Note that the PC is given a skirt to wear underneath, whereas the NPC is wearing trousers.)

The moment you put the word ‘ever’ in there, you made the question meaningless.

Pick a time frame and maybe you’ll get an answer more specific than “we’d like to” which BTW they’ve already said.

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I’d love to have the first 2 for my mes….

And just pants for light armor in general…

I can keep dreaming

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Why must they be useless town clothes? Armor is a lot more appealing.
