I agree. As someone who has previously scripted his own minor games, I understand how hard it is to make ANYTHING work properly, let alone a game as massive as this. I also understand that any little change could potentially require hours of coding, testing, etc. I also understand we are all humans, and make mistakes. Nothing in life is perfect, especially video games.

I also commend Anet on making one of the best experiences I’ve had in a game.

note I am at work and haven’t logged in today yet so don’t flame me for the LS lag

You’ve just given Anet a free pass to do w.e. they want with the game. Oh boy^

But in true honesty, I like the fact that you (OP) is the rare few who looks at the game realistically. Take what the game gives me if you ‘really want to play the game’.

Thankfully, my urge to do so is over Gl with the game dude.

Good post. I agree with everything. This industry can be very demanding especially at times like this with major updates. They work their butts off and put their heart and soul into this because they love it.

They could be doing any other job that pays better and is 9-5 everyday, but they don’t. Wish more people would realize that.

Yeah, yaknow, we all have gripes of one kind or another, but I think overall the game is unbelievably fantastic. The ANet bashing that goes on here is just a small chunk of a huge player population who largely adores this game.

WTG ANet. Keep up the good work. I have never found a game that fixates in the way GW2 does. I’m glad to announce it as the best game I’ve ever played.

Yeah! Cup and ball! But imagine how disappointed you would have been if it took 15 minutes for the ball to get from the cup and back again…..

My guess is, the enthusiasm would have waned quickly.

lol I hear ya. Or when the puppy kitten puppy lovin’ kitten puppy kitten cat dog woof meow string breaks from the ball/cup! But at the same time, they never came to my house and added on new exciting content to my ball and cup for free either. Despite if it lagged and became unplayable, I would admire the thought behind it and give them a chance to redeem themselves. Just sayin’.

To the posters above: Yes it’s good logic to try a redesign of something. I do not like the old Mustangs but the new ones I would buy. Guild wars 1 was boring I checked this game out its a win for me. As for the other post yes the majority the minority is yells the loudest. If it was the majority the game would be dead! I’m on my phone so forgive any miss spellings or anything else.

To continue:

The majority are usually quite because they are content. It is always the minority that ruins these games because they are the most vocal. In other words whiners and crybabies cause they didn’t get the toy they wanted

Dear Pepsi, I understand how hard it is to make soda, and run a big corporation. I forgive you for the incompetence of putting bleach in my soda. I have no right to complain and be angered. I have been overall satisfied with your sodas so I’m willing to ignore the pain and grief corporate oversight has cause me.

On behalf of everybody else who might have had their stomach lining burned out, I commend you on a job well done.

Yes…and it only took me a mere 700 hrs of game play to come to this conclusion that my $60.00 was misspent. ANet should be ashamed.

Oh I enjoy the game a ton, too.
Sure, I rant about the Ascended gear, because it’s not what I personally would have done.
And I am meh about the Mesmer nerfs, even though I expected them (though I would have limited Portal to 5 players instead of increasing CD).

But then, I’m not the only player.

And frankly, the game is a blast to play.

Good post.

And the majority rarely even bothers with the forums.

The last game I played started running in-game polls through their mail system to find out what the majority actually thought. The results were quite a bit different than the drivel spouted (yes, it happens elsewhere too) on the forums.

Hit level cap. The ENTIRE endgame is a pure, unadulterated grind. They are doing exactly what happened to SOE/SWG years ago in one patch. Of course, it wont be as bad as that, but this patch as proved that their manifesto/marketing etc was a full on blatant lie.

I hate to say this, but its a very obvious Bait and Switch. If we dont get a dev response to our concerns in the next week or so, i’m going to start chargeback proceedings, and if i am unable to, i will just chalk it up as a lost and vow never to be associated with Anet again.

I loved GW1. I played it from very early beta. Anet have flat out lied to us, and doesnt even have the decency to even comment on it.

By and large I agree with the OP. This is a great game overall. It has its problems and it will have its growing pains but I’ve yet to encounter anything that will make me want to quit this game forever. I might revisit that statement if we’re seeing some of the issues we’re seeing now, by this time next year. For now, I’m content to play through while kinks are being worked out of the system.

On the point of the devs turning this into a gear grind, I think this is one part people failing to read, one part people falling into the herd panic mentality and three parts overreaction. Ascended gear is meant, as stated as an intermediary step between exotics and legendaries. You will not need Ascended gear to be competitive in PvP and you will only need it for certain foes. I do think they should give us the ability to upgrade current armor sets, so long as they’re of rare quality or better, to accept infusions, but that’s just my personal take on the matter.

People just need to wait and see. This game is still in its infancy and expecting everything to be perfect/beautiful/great is a lot to ask, especially for a game of this size. Just have to wait and see how all the new stuff being implemented effects the game.

EDIT: I do think that getting Karma in the end game is more than a little grindy, but I don’t know if that’s avoidable. There’s also only so many interesting things you can get with Karma anyway.

As an older more mature player I’m writing this letter to Anet on behalf of the majority.

With all the news of recent patches and new content there has been a bit of whining and complaining, mostly because you swore the recent changes you implemented would never happen in this game…you lied.
Usually i have a decent amount of respect and loyalty for a game and its company, even small, struggling games…but with Anet this isnt happening, in fact i wouldnt care one bit if Anet and this game went bust tomorrow, i wouldnt laugh, i wouldnt cry, i wouldnt even give you a second thought, you could pass into oblivion and i wouldnt even raise an eyebrow.
Lots of things can be forgiven, hell i still play LOTRO after 5 years, even though i despise Turbine as a company, but lying to your customers cannot be forgiven, ever.
You swore, you even had it in your manifesto that the gear grind/power creep would not be in this game, ever….but here it is.

Im sure the legions of rabid fanbois will forgive you as they level yet another alt to 80 in your mostly shallow, vapid and horrendously over repeated world, on their way to a non existent end game while still being dazzled by the shinies…but those of us with actual MMO experience have seen this before, and know where it is headed, and its not good.

In the mean time ill play, while it still amuses me, but i will NEVER buy anything from your store, i will tell anyone who listens that this game is not worth a purchase…..i will however watch with anticipation and hope any future MMO’s take a lesson from GW2 on how to have a great idea, then crap all over it.

Thanks for listening….signed, an indifferent customer.

I think it’s premature to make that statement, for one thing. We haven’t seen the in-game effects of Ascended gear in game yet because nobody has it in vast quantities yet. You know, the whole intermediary tier of gear? Not a ‘you must have this to win’ tier of gear. I might be on the Going against the manifesto boat, if/when we see a severe negative impact.

If you mean the no-grinding part, I’d have to concede that point. To acquire wealth, you have to grind. Whether its hunting nodes, farming events, etc.

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree there. I believe in seeing things, before making sweeping judgments. I sincerely feel people are blowing the whole armor thing way out of proportion, but only time will tell.

As for the grind? Well…I know what they said, but realistically I don’t think there’s a way to make money, or karma that isn’t grindy so I took that part of it with a grain of salt. Leveling isn’t grindy. But getting geared up the way you want is a bit.

To those people who are complaining that Anet lied and whatnot..are you really that naive to believe that any MMO will not be grindy to a certain extent, or are you just using that as an excuse to hate on the game/genre?

The only game that I’ve ever played that was always dynamic and lacked a grind would be a table top RPG with the GM making things up on the fly, if we took an unexpected turn.

If you can’t deal with grind, I would honestly say just quit MMOs altogether.

GW1 didnt have any grind and many of us played it for years. And even if you are that person who will immediately exclaim “but GW1 was not an MMO” due to your narrow minded view people play and have played games without progression or in this matter STAT progression for years.
GW2 was to be an MMO without grind, without treadmills and artificial barriers.

But apparently too many people got so locked into this narrow minded perspective of what an MMO is due to WoW and other EQ clones that the devs just gave into their demands without any explanation of complete reversal of their policies alienating their core playerbase that has supported them for more than 7 years financially and morally.

Also OP never go posting a letter on behalf of anyone who you do not represent – in this case the majority.

Which turned into MUDs
Which turned into MMORPGs like EQ and AO
then WoW (shuddered) happened and the enitre MMO industry went the wrong way… Away from MMORPGs.

GW2 is the first game in a LONG time I will truly call a MMORPG
