A suggestion for new accounts
I think the reason behind this new system is as follows:
“It’s too complicated for new players to comprehend.”
As soon as new players see an icon they do not recognize on the map. They rage quit and leave the game out of sheer, confused terror.

Good luck.
You don’t have to see icons on a map to see a cool structure in the distance and simply walk over to it.
stop viewing exploration as a checklist, go out and actually explore.

I agree with you.
I bought the new account during the promotion and I took the opportunity to review the NPE from fresh point of view. The fact that some map indicators are hidden forced me (even though I am a veteran) to do a lot of unnecessary backtracking to PoIs or Vistas I forgot about. If I was a little annoyed I can imagine a frustration from new players and this is only because of map. The whole “tutorial” popups gated behind leveling is awful idea. The whole tutorial should take place in starting instance for every race. It could have been done so much better.
But because anet already put their funds on NPE and I don’t feel like they’re going to change it, I don’t bother writing anything more constructive. And trust me, I have some ideas how to improve npe and tutorials so they’re not so annoying and can surve they purpose.
But there’s no point. If devs want feedback from players – come and ask for them. If you want us to write hundreds and hundreds of posts with feedback, make an effort to convince me and others disappointed with your attitude to give the feedback.
@OP: as I said, I perfectly understand and agree with you, but unfortunately I don’t believe anything changes.

If they think giving you a game that feels incomplete when you just buy it is a better idea, then I really don’t know what to say. If players really do simply stop playing because they don’t know what a map icon means in a brand new game to them, then the community is better off without that player.
I also highly doubt that is an accurate reason for losing a new player, and the current system in place will push far more players away, and that’s coming from personal experience.
