This is stemming off from my other thread…

I think this is a legitimate question…

If someone were to make a Kickstarter to crowdfund and FULL expansion for GW2-

1) How many of you would support it if say your $30 donation allowed you the expansion download with say a bonus aesthetic in game item

2) Would the developers accept the money to do just that? Crowdfund a FULL expansion for GW2… a game that is sorely in need of some major content. Can I get a developer reply on this as this is something I am LEGITIMATELY willing to start.

Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, that’s not the way Kickstarter works.
ArenaNet would have to start the actual Kickstarter campaign. A third party has no legal right to the GW2 development process.

Correct BUT if say we got the green light from the development team just so they can see the real cash money interest, why wouldn’t we be able to bring money together to give to them to fund a full expansion?

I think you’d probably be better off starting a simple “Yes/No” thread with the question “Would you pay for an expansion?”.
Ask for it to be moderated so as to avoid repeat posts or opinions getting in the way of simple data.
It’s been a while since I checked, but last I knew ArenaNet’s forum software didn’t support polls. That’s a shame, as it would be the ideal way to gauge opinion and direct development funds.

Do as Mungrul said, after the pull is done, if its positive, you can talk about the kickestarter campaign (still i dont see it necesary).

Personally i will pay/donate for an expansion, in comparison with the gem shop im not only suporting in doing so, im getting an agreement (money= new content yes or yes-except if kickestarter goes short, but in pay yes!), specially if is paying for, it means they created it.

You would never, ever get the go-ahead for something like that. If they wanted to try something like that, you can bet they’d do it themselves, using their marketing team, producers, and developers to give it a real strategy and to give it some extra clout by showing off ideas for an expansion. Leaving an outsider to gather investments for them would be insane.

It’s important to keep in mind that, even then, you’re only polling the forum population, which isn’t necessarily representative of the player population. That isn’t to say polls of forum people can’t be useful, but I’ve seen some rather self-selective polls on here, with predictable results.
