I guess you already have my (and most others’) money, so perhaps there’s no good reason for you to listen,
This man speaks the horrible truth.
I would agree with you, OP, if the game had been out for 6 months or so. The public should have no say in what the game should be like until Anet has fully flushed out what they would like the game to be. After 6 months, most bugs/exploits should be fixed and they should have the game where they want it. At that point, sure then perhaps take suggestions and work on listening to your playerbase.
Also by waiting, you allow a certain crowd to leave (which would leave anyways even if you did everything they wanted) and keep the game Anets loyal fanbase would like.
Loathe WoW and the Community it brings.
“This man speaks the horrible truth.” No, this is as childish an argument as it gets. If they shut down the game now, yes. Just because anet does not play the monkey for every player´s whim it does not make evil masterminds. But as this forum is slowly turning into a lodge of tin foil hat wearers, I am not surprised of such nonsense.

They spent six years or whatever making a game, they wrote their manifesto (which turned out to be a pile of crock), and they kept telling us things like, “It’ll be real fun to learn skills we won’t throw them all at you at once” when in reality it meant that we’d auto attack for 2 minutes, then we’d autoattack while pressing 2 for 2 minutes, then same for 3 and on and on. These forums are full of posters who have documented the rubbish they’ve been spewing.
There aren’t any tinfoil hatters here, just disappointed players who can see that this has turned into just another company out to make money, and don’t get me wrong, that’s Arenanet’s prerogative. But many of us are genuinely disappointed.
It does us a disservice to assume we’re all anticapitalist freaks or something.
well, then voice those points and do not chime in with someone claiming “now that they have our money they do not care about customers anymore”. And it is not the majority of players that subscibes to your description of the gameplay.

This point has been made before, in the thread with 10k views, that the majority of players right now will not be playing in a few months, so that point is really invalid. Go read that post if you’re actually keen about it.

No he doesn’t. As they have no subs and didn’t go pay2win, they need people to play the game and use the cash shop. They have every reason to want people to keep playing.
The problem discussed here must be the diminishing returns. A draconic measure, I agree, but there was a need to do something. That’s all there is to it really.
I just love how people refer to “the community” when they really mean just themselves. I didn’t like this measure even though it hasn’t affected me personally, but I do realise that for the economy’s sake something had to be done.
well, we are in this thread and if you are unable to keep unrelated things apart, I suggest you start creating bills for congress.
PS: Ah, this thread Elysian, where someone is complaining GW2 is not GW1 and is taking grim satisfaction that the game will be deserted in 6 months if us blind sheep and anet do not follow his and your divine insights? The one with 10k views with appr. 80 % argueing against OP? Yes, I am totally convinced now of your POV.
Seriously, in every thread I have seen you post you express your deep dissatisfaction about everything this game is about. What is actually keeping you here? Mourn the money, but do not keep wasting your time on a game you soooo profoundly hate.
And stop coming up with your universal truths what I and other players think about the game. You can voice your opinion, but stop pretending you know what everyone else thinks.
When I began reading all these posts yesterday about how bad the diminishing returns patch was, I was horrified.. I was thinking, “there’s no way ANet did this.. o my god, what if they did? What if doing any more than 1 event in a chain is now worthless.. what if running dungeons isn’t economically feasible.. I have to grind gold to get money to do dungeons because of repair costs!” I was fooled by all the complaining I saw on here, I went and did some dynamic events and ran CM last night and to my satisfying amazement, everything was fine. Dynamic events only show diminishing returns if you do them almost simultaneously.. completing another event 5~10m later shows no diminishing returns. Running CM is now ACTUALLY a bit of a challenge, perhaps a little harder than a storymode dungeon should be, but still a lot easier than AC and faster too… I had a 7 silver repair bill at the end and the reward gave me 11 silver.. that doesn’t count what I made from selling all the drops. The last patch did not break the game. If you’re basing your opinion on just the forum posts or other people’s experiences, I encourage you to try everything out for yourself.
Name one MMO that hasnt been this way.
The devs are hard at work trying to get bugs fixed and the game stable. Support has to deal with an abundance of tickets, mainly because they didnt expect the game to be this popular, but mostly because the ticket is clogged up with pointless tickets, and those made by people who fail to keep their computer secure.
