The one AFK farmer in Malchor’s Leap has been there over a month. When you report him his account name is his serial # !!!! I mean c’mon. I’ve reported, sent screenshots, they’ve responded thanking me and saying something will be done… an month ago. He’s still there. Little asuran kitten. ugh.

is it sad that I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this afk’er, and reported him several times over the last few months or at least one that’s extremely similar, right down to the asura character?

As someone that started playing a necromancer lately I have a bit of feedback here. Please understand I am not excusing any AFK farming or whatnot that is actually going on, just pointing this out: I sometimes go AFK as I do with any of my characters for a few minutes to do something, and when I return this character is more likely than any of my others to have a message telling me I was reported for being a farmer. So it seems like people see a necro with a gaggle of minions AFK and immediately assume something nefarious is up. Not accusing anyone in this thread of doing the same, I just want to point out that some of the reports are based on false assumptions. Now this could be because necros are the primary offender and as such are more suspect, but still.

Cheating, Abusing Game Mechanics, Hacking, Botting “Allowed” in Guild Wars 2.

No, it’s not, so please stop saying otherwise.

Yes it is.
Proof ?
Bitter Frost Frontier since release.

So, if you really believe that, make your choice: either stop complaining and get on the AFK farming train, or go to another game before this one is ruined because you won’t have the same income as the people who do it.

It’s not exactly rocket surgery: if anet really, really do permit this, then your complaining here isn’t going to change their minds, right? It’s not like they are unaware of the situation…

I will complain and salt until this is fixed. Problem ?

One necromancer being afk for a couple minutes somewhere in the open world isn’t a problem. It’s where necromancers/rangers are standing around in the same spot for days, weeks, months on end, is where the concern is.

Not sure if you know but just in case you don’t, if you would like to avoid getting nasty messages, when you’re about to be afk, open guild panel, click Go to Guild Hall. You’ll be transported there, safe from harm. Then, when you’re doing being afk, click Leave Guild Hall, you’ll be transported to the spot you left.

Thanks for the info, never thought about using the guild hall. I’m not terribly offended by the messages, I understand the frustration, and I have only gotten a few. It was more the surprise of getting any. I have played for years with other characters and don’t remember getting a single one that whole time about being AFK, and my habits are the same in that regard from character to character.

Visiting the guild hall does not return you to the same map instance you were in previously, which is why I sometimes elect not to do that. Typically if I have been involved in a conversation in /y or something, but y’know, whatever.

My main feedback to people would be that whispering someone to ask if they are a bot is the most pointless thing in the world, and to tell them they were reported is the second most pointless.

If you are right, that’s not going to change anything. They already know that people don’t approve of this, because really, nobody is stupid enough to not understand how folks feel about botting, including the people who write the bots.

If you are wrong, your best case is that you get to make someones life a little worse, because they sit there thinking “I’m that robotic!?!”, and the more common case is that you have someone thinking “what a kitten” because you whispered something … intemperate to a person.

So, report the heck out of them, no question. I’m a huge fan of that, and AFK farming … bad stuff. I’d like to see a technical solution that forced it to be done with ToS violating tools, and then stuff to make those … less usable.

It’s been since last Summer since I began reporting a specific individual who has a Necro at a farming spot almost daily. The times that I’ve not seen them there, they are on another character in WvW. I don’t spam reports, and actually haven’t bothered reporting anyone now, because it’s pretty clear that Arenanet is fine with it, or that their punishment is so nothingburger that the players who do it come right back and start up again.
The farming has definitely affected the price on specific items as well, which, to me, indicates that Arenanet has no intention of taking action. If these people are doing something that affects the economy, and they aren’t getting banned harshly for it, then it’s clearly not an issue.

Where are my gem sales? I want gem sales! Nerf EVERYTHING!

If it were inconsequential then no one would be afk farming. Justifying one type of afk farming with another type is nonsense. Two wrongs do not make a right. That’s not the reason though why afk farming gets on peoples nerves.

That’s right … that’s why I think it’s hilarious no one complains about the farming that actually has the greater effect on them, but is so up in arms over the farming that has the least impact. Makes no sense.

reporting a specific individual

The farming has definitely affected the price on specific items

One person isn’t having an impact on the TP by farming. What’s likely to occur is, an items price on the TP reaches a high enough ROI, and it is farmed by many. Collectively this has occurred after vast complaints on the forums like with vials of blood, linen, leather, platinum doubloons, Charged Lodestones, Essence of Light, etc. Once the demand is fulfilled and/or diminishes, price drops reducing the ROI. It’s a simple feedback loop that self repairs the market. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with farming. If it’s botted in some fashion, then yes that’s an issue. Though no one should be reporting anyone for simply killing the same mobs or gathering the same items. Farming is a form of game play and it’s good for the market.

Anet did you visit Bitter Frost lately ?

They will have, yes, and had similar experiences to the rest of us. We also know that they do review, and act on, reports of AFK farming as “botting”, as well as other reports via support tickets, etc.

We also know that a non-trivial number of the people being accused of this are not, in fact, actually AFK, they are simply sitting there not doing that much, but actively hitting buttons, responding to GMs, etc.

We understand that it seem obvious to you that there is a “problem” here, but this sort of rhetorical question isn’t going to produce the desired result. You should, instead, focus on bringing something useful to the table: for example, proof that someone is actually AFK, and were reported, and continued to do the same thing.
