Hi,

A few days ago, Legendary weapons appeared in the Trading post top offers, once by one. Now we only see them.
Before that, I heard about Legendary weapons loot, but it was mostly a legend (^^). Now it is confirmed, since crafted legendaries are account bound.

I think that the existence of legendaries as loot is bad for the game, for a lot of reasons. I really don’t understand why Anet made them (I’d really appreciate an explanation from staff :-) )

The concept of a Legendary weapon
IMHO, a legendary is some kind of GW2’s GWAMM, even if it’s very different. It’s a long term objective, which requires players to actually play, and to do lots of differentt things. Dungeon (gift of dungeon), Karma (shards), Crafting lvl400 (sub gifts of specific gifts), Money (we need to play a lot), WvW (gift of battle), PvE completion (Gift of Exploration), …..
This is very nice.
But what about loot legendaries ? Either you get them immediately (you don’t really “deserve” them, you don’t get the satisfaction from the end of a long quest …), either you buy it (so you didn’t have to actually play the game in every part mentioned above). IMHO, it really break the concept of a legendary weapon.

The guy who loots it
- This is a VERY expensive loot. You will probably be able to sell it sooner or later for around 2000 gold (!!). I’d say I think it’s too much of a loot. MMO have very nice rare loots. It’s part of the system, and it’s nice. But this is the role of precursors here. 200-400G is a really nice amount of money, 1 month of playing for hardcore players (less for ppl who do farms that are nearly exploits), several months to 1 year for casual players. Very nice. What about a legendary worth 2000G ? Let’s say around 1 year of playing/farmingfor a big player like me, FIVE YEARS of game for cacual players. Which is too much. Removes lots of interest in the game when you know that a single loot can be worth 1-5 years of playing, don’t it ?

- But, I’m ranting because I’m not one of the lucky guys looting it ? 2000G is very nice !
No. Some players have an only motivation : play with friends and guildies. It won’t effect them. But some also have strong motivations about complteting things, buying nice gear, crafting a (real) legendary. What if I get 2000G at one ? I’ll finish my Kudzu and won’t get the same satisfaction because I’ll have done the last part of it with a single loot. I’ll buy all the Cultural armors for the characters which I’d like to equip with such an armor. And ? A lot of goals are gone because of one single loot. So, a such incredible amount of money at once is not even good for the guy who gets it (this isn’t true for everyone, but will be true for lots of us).

The guy who buys it
- As mentioned above, he will “just” use money to get a legendary. He will probably get it without having done all the steps I described in the first part. Not really fair, not really deserved.

- WHO will buy it ? 2000G !!
—> Gold buyers. Official ones (nice for anet, but probably not a majority, because for such an amount of gold it would cost lots of real money). And probably non official ones (RMT)
—> Exploiters. The ones who exploited a bug that didn’t lead to mass ban, and not even to money deleting. Example (I may be wrong on this one, just heard about it) : CoF exploiting that is now closed.
—> Botters.
—> Traders. As I explained in another post (here : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Items-from-Trading-Post-not-sellable-in-TP/first#post1134210), traders in GW2 are mostly economy parasites who extract money out of the community.
—> A very small number of hardcore players who really deserved to get that amount of money.

Conclution
As explained, I think that legendaries that can be looted at bad for
- the guys who get them/sells
- the guys who buy them (mostly bad guys, and in any case they don’t do the “quest”)
- the concept of legendary weapons itself

Which is why I think that they shouldn’t exist, and don’t understand why Anet made them. Any explanation ? I’d really like to understand !

Eowyn

ps : is it a tracker to detect players that have more money that they should and investigate on them ? I eliminated this theory, because Anet can probably directly see who has got more than a certain amount of money on their account.

Legendaries are not account-bound.

There is no “legendary loot”. All those weapons on TP were crafted normally – it’s just that the end result is “bound on equip”, not soul- or account bound, and so it can be sold normally.

Actions, not words.

Very simply:

  • Legendary weapons don’t drop, Legendary PRECURSORS can however (though extremely rare)
  • Legendary weapons are ONLY crafted
  • Legendary weapons, once equipped, cannot be sold as they are then Soulbound to that character.

I agree that not many people will buy these offered on the TP, only the super-wealthy and lazy. Might I suggest that next time you let your fingers go into overdrive on the forums that you first consult the GW2 wiki for correct information on how Legendaries work.

My mistake. Was told that they were loot, thought that it was a legend until I saw them on TP and ppl told again that they were loot.
I’m sorry I didn’t check wiki (usually I spend a lot of time there), I really thought that crafted legendaries were account bound (my mistake : gifts are, didn’t see that legendaries arn’t. What’s the use of binding gifts to account if the legendary can be sold ? )
Don’t worry about my “wall of text” or me typing a lot for nothing : my fingers don’t hurt atm. :-)

TY for the info. I now feel much better about legendaries
This info makes a lot of my arguments useless, but some of them are still true. Especially about the buyer who will most often not be a really honest player, and what I called the “concept of legendary”, since the buyer is able to get it without actually doing all the things that I listed under my 1st bold title.

So, I still think that legendaries shouldn’t be able to be sold.
But most of my concern is now gone —> I didn’t type my “wall of text” for nothing (even if I could have got info very fast from wiki … as explained I just didn’t think it would be like this)
