About leveling

Why is everyone so obsessed about leveling anway? If a game puts its whole focus on leveling it’s a sure sign that it’s struggling providing alternative activities.
The original GW2 experience was designed in a way that no matter what you do, you get experience. Leveling became an afterthought. It’s like the developers whispering in your ear: “Don’t worry about leveling, we’re taking care of that”. Now, they’re shifting their focus back on leveling. As if your fun depends on it.
After every level-up since the new feature pack I hear Colin’s Voice in my head saying: ‘You leveled up. You leveled up again. Hey! You leveled up again’. That’s great.
Anyway, I don’t think leveling needs more polish (especially not the kind of polish it just got through the feature pack). I think they need to turn their focus away from leveling and add more permanent end game content.

there’s something to do that requires 80 now??

Nothing other than Season 2 LS being restricted to lvl 80.
Newbies are going to go through leveling one way or the other. If there is no thought going into leveling, not only people are not going to create alts, also the new players are not going to stick around long enough to make their first gem store purchase.
I think leveling is important.

There are 5 different starting area, I’m not sure what’s so wrong about doing them. That being said, many new players don’t even know they exist, or know how to get there.
I think they need to turn their focus away from leveling and add more permanent end game content.
That’s what they’ve needed to focus on ever since Flame & Frost, if not before that. We’ve been saying forever that we want more PERMANENT content. You know, stuff like Southsun Cove and Drytop. Things that we can actually go back to rather than just do them a single time and have them disappear in a month.
This game was one of the few games where I (a player) could simply play AND kitten-ING ENJOY IT. Now – it was bad enough they introduced gold seling mechanism that reduced amount of gold earnet via levelig. It introduce grinding but could be worked around once person knew more about game mechanics.
And currently they introduced gateing which take away big chunks of functionality for significant part of the experience. And in addition to that set level revards to be available only every few levels which with down-scalling mean, if you ever wanted to go back to actually play and enjoy the content you have to GRINDING ALL THE WAY UP TO 80 not be killed over and over because of your stats getting sloughtered.
Also they seem to forgot they do not have any 80 level content, aside of grinding for “ultimate-uber-super” weapons (soon available in every neighborhood store!!!).
All that to get more money they already received SH?TLOAD of.
LEVELING IS PLAYING. IF I WANTED TO GRID UP TO MAX LEVEL AND THEN GRIND FOR EQUIPMENT THEN THERE IS A HUNDREDS OF GAMES WHICH DO IT BETTER!!!
Not even to mention the direction ArenaNet took from Pay once and play to the most discusting form of “free” to play experience – forcing players to ridiculus and mind numbing, 1-button smashing grind!!!
F-THEM. F-THEM. F-THEM.

Funny thing, I find all poping out reward windows (they consider suuuch improvement) to be EXTREMALY annoying, never read them too.
Why? Because they INTERRUPT MY GAME!!!
Yep, killing monsters, exploring, doing quests – is the game. To tell the truth I did not even tracked my level, as soon as stuff get to difficult I turned back and completed stuff I missed or crafted or did some events. Strongly preffered letters and “!”, because I actually enjoyed the game – I though it was what it was about. Singleplayer game with MMo benefits.

To clear any missunderstangings that seem to be running around. Leveling was a term / attidue brought to GW2 from other MMoRPG game.
I play my game, and yes 1-80 can be considered leveling, although for me this was only map availability determinant, now what they did is:
~ removed game content from the part of the game.
~ removed huge chunks of gameplay from low levels, making it so that now I have to LEVEL UP (= mindlessli gring experience without enjoyment) up to 30-40 to become semi capable to enjoy the content (character freedom) and have to LEVEL UP to 80 to have the world content freedom as (thanks to this ridiculous level statistisc bundless) level of dificulty spike insanely (either beginning or end ot the map) if I do anything other that going very exact patch THEY FORCE ME TO FOLLOW.
They are kittenING kittenS for doing so – and I have every right to say so.
