Hello all,

Its not an all important question, but I was wanting to ask,

I transferred to EU from the NA servers, and quickly realized that it was a big mistake. 250 ping on average makes for a sluggish at best experience….

It says its 1 day remaining, and it has said that since yesterday….does anyone know if the ability to transfer rest at a certain time, or is it exactly on the hour of 7 days past you are able to make the transfer?

I would expect it’s 7 whole days (e.g. 168 hours), and not tied to server reset – and the display is just showing ‘full days’ rounded up (or won’t show the hours until it’s <1 day).

At first I thought you’d just inadvertently answered a question I had – you’d identified the only reason that still exists for guesting – but upon review, it doesn’t support EU<—>NA. My primary guild is on another server (still NA though), and just this week I was trying to figure out why guesting still exists – and I couldn’t find a reason, since you can’t participate in WvW when guesting.

“Guesting allows you to temporarily change your associated world, thus affecting one of the factors affecting which instance you are placed in. It does not allow you to play for a different team in World versus World or to guest from NA to EU or vice versa. Due to the megaserver system, most players will never need to guest. "

Sorry about your inconvenience – if you still have significant time left on those last 24 hours – you might put a request in to support to move you back or remove the restriction just this once.

Edited because I apparently can’t read things I myself quoted from wiki.

@Veritas: open a support ticket and see if they might be willing to give you a refund. Be clear that you knew it was a risk before you moved, you just didn’t have any idea as to how bad the extra ping would be like for actual gameplay.

I speculate that there’s a 40% chance they’ll give you a partial refund, e.g. for one direction.

I suspect guesting still exists simply because it was less work to leave it in than to remove it, and removing options from a game tends to go over badly even when they’re redundant.

Having said that I do occasionally guest to other servers, even now. It does still work – it replaces the rules that normally determine which copy of a map you go into (with friends, with guild members, with your server etc.) and prioritises ones with people from that server.

So you don’t need it to group with friends or guild members from another server, but if you want to try and get into a different copy of a map it works. The downside is there’s no way to tell if there are any other copies and no guarantee that the new one will be any better for what you’re doing. But it’s an option.
