About that colored outline on players...
There IS in fact an option for first person view, though this option wasn’t available for the longest time. On the first tab of the game options window you should find a check box for first person view. Its uncheck by default.
As for the outline….hell, I’d forgotten it was even there. I’m pretty sure you’re out of luck in those regards. Be glad the outline isn’t like what the devs had it as way back in the demos. Horrid.
The outline is tied to the post-processing graphics setting, I don’t remember if you need to set it to “low” or turn it off completely to get rid of outlines. You will also be turning off a variety of other graphics settings at the same time (bloom, colour-tinting etc.) because they apparently don’t warrant individual checkboxes.
@TheGreyhawk – Oh wow, thank you! I swear I scoured the Options menu a dozen times but somehow missed that ticky box. The thing you’re looking for is always right in front of you, eh?
Disappointing regarding the outlines… I don’t really understand why something like that isn’t a toggle – just like nameplates, where you should be able to pick and choose what models it shows up on (enemy NPCs, friendly npcs, enemy players, friendly players, etc). :/
In that case, I’d like to formally ask ArenaNet, if they are at all listening, to please consider adding these options. The game is gorgeous… up until I’m forced to stare at these outlines when I’d rather be taking pictures!
