So… I mostly play PvE, sometimes WvW and I know I didn’t play thousands of hours with Guild Wars 2 but I got like 500 hours on my ranger and here’s my thoughts about it’s skills.
First of all let’s take a look at Hunter’s Shot, the skill what was changed a lot in Guild Wars too. In my opinion Hunter’s Shot was a great skill for applying vulnerability and then dealing damage to a single target (or more if you have the Piercing Arrows trait set). Your pet gains swiftness and your target(s) become vulnerable, though it can be dogded. Now they changed it, removed vulnerability from it, putting it onto the second skill, Rapid Fire which fires multiple arrows at the foe. It fires faster than auto attack but if the target teleports behind us somehow (a warrior can easily do it with Whirlwind Attack for example) then the skill stops and we have to wait for it’s cooldown. By changing Hunter’s Shot to give stealth to ranger’s for 3 seconds wasn’t the best idea I think. In that 3 seconds you can start casting Barraga or try to get away, but while you’re in stealth, the mobs what were targeting you starts to hit your pet. So your pet dies… Or you can react quickly enough and you can switch it before it does. Then it dies because you can’t switch back to your other pet because of the cooldown.
Giving Point Blank Shot larger range was a nice thing to do but I believe Hunter’s Shot was fine as it was and in my opinion Point Blank Shot should have the stealth instead so the rangers would have some sort of escape tool.
I understand that some people thinks that spamming vulnerability is fun but all I can tell to them is that get Opening Strikes and look at Hunter’s Shot cooldown… It’d give 15 stacks of vulnerability out of one Hunter’s Shot and +5 stack if your pet has Opening Strike too. I think this should be the way to make Remoresless trait more useful, if you want to have stealth on a ranger then do some combos or make some more utility skills. The change to the warhorn’s Call of the Wild was good too. I don’t know about the Greatsword or Axe skills, I don’t really play with them but they seem fine.
About Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2… I hate the fact that I can’t go Ranger/Necro or something and the fact that I can’t use all weapons as a ranger but I knew that I won’t be able to when I bought the game. However I believe it’d be more fun to play knowing that I can go staff ranger and trap while luring enemies into my traps with my mesmer secondary.
I just looked at this game (after playing it for like a year) and I realized that this game is a lot more different game. In GW you could set up your skillbar and go farm as a group, vanquish zones, join random people and get more of them on the friendlist and do whatever you wanted to. In this game you don’t do that, you don’t even have a party search thingy, you either do it manually by spamming on different locations or you go to gw2lfg. You can’t trade players, you have to either send your stuff by mail or put it on trading post. There is no safe option to trade a sword skin for a longbow skin with others.
Jumping Puzzles are fun, challenging and really annoying sometimes, but I still don’t understand what’s the point of putting one of the hardest jumping puzzle into a WvW area where people just stand at the end and wait for others all day long to come. They just shoot you once, then you fall and die. The only way to avoid this is to play when others are sleeping… Zergs don’t do jumping puzzles…
Also I think you either grind a lot and stay online for at least 5 hours a day or you don’t get any achievement points and miss all the living story events.
Anyways theese are my thoughts about the game, I hope we’ll all have fun!
