About the scavenger hunt
I remember a guy from Anet saying not so long ago that he is still working on it.
And that it would “not come in the next patch”. He is taking time to do things right.

That was said 2 months ago and I believe that guy is a girl My concern is there are far easier ways that actually address the problem better and yet we wait for a scavenger hunt. Why …
At this point I can honestly say I think the only reason you are not doing this is because you are trying to work a hook into the Gem store for the precursor to generate more gem sales. There isn’t a logical explanation beyond that when the alternative of a TAB is far easier to implement and better for the game economy overall.
So about that Scavenger hunt …
What other silly theories are you going to come up with?

Found the post back!
I am definitely working on the precursor scavenger hunt, but like others have said, things like this take time and I want to get it right. Not to mention, it’s not the only thing on my plate. Please do not expect to see the precursor scavenger hunt in the next patch. I may be awesome, but I am still only human and this is a fairly large amount of work to get done and done right. Please be patient!
Though I have to admit, posted on November 16th…

ETA on the scavenger Hunt, ANet style – When it’s ready or when they are forced to release with a lot of bugs!
If they want a “quick fix” to the precursors being so expensive they could just increase the drop rate slightly. Then when the scavenger hunt comes out they can restore the drop rate back to it’s original state.

Be as sarcastic as you like but can you come up with a logical reason why? We can walk to the store on our hands but it is much more practical to do it with our feet. So why is their solution to the issue hand walking is my question.
Why pursue it if there are better and easier ways to achieve the same results. Like I said give me a logical reason why.

Law of Large numbers … the rate they would have to raise the drop rate to be sure to get enough into the system would flood the system with precursors or leave people wondering if they raised the drop rate at all.
The tears would be epic … Lost Shores ring any bells? Plus there is always the risk that by tweaking that drop rate it will change another items drop rate … remember unidentified dye? TAB is so much easier AND removes gold from the economy.

Better and Easier? Legendary should be directly tied to someones right to have one. Making the precursors being so easily bought, makes Legendary becoming more of a Rich Boy exhibition item, instead of the reward of the hard work that a Legendary weapon status implies. I don’t like the way that is now, but that don’t mean that we should make them accessible so easily.
Btw, There are tons of explanations on why and how, and neither is more logical than the next one. Implying that is the only logical one, isn’t quite truth. I admit that your point is a possible outcome, but a wild guess still, nothing more!
Anet had mentioned before that people were acquiring legendaries way too quickly.
Now, getting a legendary is at least 2-3 times more expensive than before. Do you really think that they’re gonna hand out precursors at 200g when they are close to 600g on the TP right now? Had it not been profitable for them, the precursor prices would have already adjusted.
I’m pretty sure that they are content with the time it takes to acquire a legendary now, thus whatever this scavenger hunt may be, it won’t be nearly as effective as people theorycraft.

Could be they’re going to tell us with these blog posts in a few weeks?
Just saying.
As for your idea, while it might help the economy, it’s kinda boring. Having to scour the world for items to create the pre-cursor sounds like so much more fun.

Why are people operating under the assumption that legendaries are something everyone should have, and that they should have them in a short period of time?
Stop the pressure over them, I’m interested in the scavenger hunt too (hint signature) but if we want it without bugs or at least a minimum of bugs, just stop wasting your time here.
You don’t need to buy the precursors from the Trading Post, let the sellers die alone waiting, simple.
I have 1619 hours logged on this game 70% of that time was trying to get gold to buy my precursor. I refuse to buy gold to get one. I think that that 100/200 gold tab would work great. Then I I would know how much gold I have to get in order to get one and would not have see the never have look at AH to see each day. My precursor up 20- 50 gold each day. I feel like whit this much time in the game I should have alest seen one drop by now.

I don’t know what the heck you are doing, but I’m at 1100 and have two legendaries. By now you should have had more than enough gold made to buy one precursor or even afford a Legendary.

100-200g with the current prices? 150-300g or 200-400g maybe. Stop dreaming o.O
Anything above 200g is simply unacceptable if this tab is to exist, stop overpricing 1/4 of the legendary thanks.
Honestly they would not put them in at that tier price even if they implemented it. Why should one person only have to pay 100g while someone else is required to pay 200g for a legendary?

Because just buying it with gold isn’t a interesting way of acquiring items and a scavenger hunt, depending on how it’s implemented, could be an interesting way of rewarding and providing an incentive people for going out in the open world rather than repeatedly farming the same dungeons over and over for the best gold/time ratios.
There’s more to playing a game than simply acquiring items. Fun is also a pretty important thing to consider, and a scavenger hunt opens new avenues of gameplay that people could enjoy. Slapping in a glorified weapons merchant and calling it a day would not only be highly lazy but would also be redundant, as there are already plenty of ways to acquire loot through merchants or with gold.
The reason you can see the “logic” is that you seem to think the only end result that’s worth considering is whether someone gets an item or not. Unfortunately for the devs, it’s a bit more involved than that.

Well like I said im got going buy gold in order to get a percursor. The one im looking for is now 429 gold today. If you have 2 of them at 1100 of hours then. I think that you might have just did waht I can’t. which is buy gold good luck whit that. I will still be trying get mine thought legiament way so I dont get benned.

I appreciate the heads up on a reply.
Should I be taking no comment on the idea of a TAB as the answer on your thoughts on it? Would save a lot of people time by just saying no we are not interested in this idea.
If interested why not do it? It isn’t like I want anything for the idea and the TAB has worked in other NcSoft games before this one so it is proven to be effective. I do apologize for sounding like I am nagging but when people about face from common sense it drives me nuts.

The funny thing about ‘common sense’ is that sometimes it does make sense, but at the same time it doesn’t.
In this case, it makes sense for the reasons you listed.
At the same time, the scavenger hunt, if implemented properly, also makes sense, since it would help with the lower level area issue.
IMHO, the scavenger hunt just sounds a lot more fun.

Just saying.
Colin has already revealed that the scavenger hunt is not even in coding yet, and it’s not coming out in these upcoming patches in Jan/Feb/March.
So we’ll be waiting until at least April unless something changes.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

I appreciate that the scavenger hunt might be more fun … but there are many people that have been waiting patiently for help on this issue for months. Personally, I have had Gift of Twilight, Gift of Mastery and Gift of Fortune sitting in my bank for over a month … waiting for that help/fix from Anet. That wait has leeched ANY fun there was in this game for myself and many others.
There is an easy fix as I have laid out for more than a month. They claim they have another fix coming soon while they work on the scavenger hunt. Point I am making is the scavenger hunt will eventually get here so why not actually HELP those of us waiting for the “fix” now while we wait. It isn’t like people will stop at one legendary weapon.
