Abyss Dye 18G 40S on Tradepost… Crazy price and shows how terrible the drop rates are!

Normal Black is around 8G :-(

Eh, Personally, I don’t even see the appeal of Abyss dye. Why would you want to use something that actively removes your character’s armor details, or at least hides them.

Royal Rose/Harvest Gold/ Hot Pink/Lipstick here. Inexpensive, and looks awesome on my mesmer. I’ve seen TONS of other non-black dye combos that look great, and few, if any black ones that look good.

I’d reinterpret the top post —

That the market places such a high price on an item that does nothing but cosmetic — doesn’t that mean the game is giving us way too much gold?

black is black. abyss is not black. it’s darker than black but it is not black.

so get the genuine black. it’s called “black dye”.

dwayna can easily be duo’d have 4 people if you want a safety net, and just farm sparks lol, charged lodestones aren’t that hard to get. 4 hour session i usually come out with 4-5, there really the only thing worthwhile to farm atm.

They can’t just make huge sweeping changes to drop rates because it effects the entire economy. They have to take a close look at things that might be priced higher then intended and then decide how to bring those prices down. It’s not always as simple as making it drop more frequently because that effects other items. If Item A drop rate goes up then Item B drop rate goes down and prices rise on item B, which could effect items C-H that all require Item B to make, etc…

They hired an economist to work on this game which means they intend for the economy to be able to hold up for a long time which means there will probably be small changes to drop rates over long periods of time rather then huge fast changes that can cause major inflation.

The only other game I know of that has an economist is Eve Online and it has the best in game Economy of any game created to date. It is 100% player driven. There might be other games that have one that I am not aware of though.

funny thing, one of my friends found and used abyss dye on hi armor at some point when i hadnt seen him for a while… and when we went to do a dungeon together i couldnt tell that his character had entered the same map because the color of his armor on the little “character head display” thing was pretty much identical to its appearance when another character isnt on the same map

… that being said i do like the abyss dye when its used in combination with other colors, or in some of the lining or paneling parts of the armor

Abyss dye 18 g, each Berserker piece 5 gold, each superior rune of any worth 4-5 gold each….

It’s getting way out of hand.

The market for this item, black, white, celestial, and some rare midnight dyes had been cornered when dye rates were fixed back to their original chance rate.

I paid 4g for my abyss dye. Happy day.

Really though, since anet nerfed the drop rate of dyes a month or so ago I’ve gotten maybe 10 unid’d dyes since then. I think that might be the source of the problem..

Why would you want to use something that actively removes your character’s armor details, or at least hides them.

If you just dye your character head-to-toe in one color, that does tend to happen.

Abyss looks real nice on certain leather pieces, though, because it’s deeper and more lustrous than other dark dyes.

I use a mix of midnight ice, nightshade and black. I don’t see the need for abyss
although knowing me, I would still use it if it dropped instead of making money from it.

I sold my abyss dye for about 4 ish gold. I don’t like how it looks on anything.

My preferred dyes on my main is a combination of midnight fire, starry night and mithril/white gold.

I also love black cherry/ spitfire and use that on my ele.

My wife bought some unidentified dye off the tp last night. I think they are like 60 s each? She bought 5, and she got a black dye and a midnight ice dye out of it.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

Midnight Ice ‘works’ as black for medium armor (can’t comment on light armor), but for the heavy armor, to get a ‘true black’, you need to use Abyss. This, coupled with the rarity, has driven the price to an astronomical level.

I haven’t purchased the Abyss; I doubt I will. My guardian will just have to do without, because I refuse to spend that kind of coin for something that’s purely cosmetic. For 18 gold, that dye should cause my armor to emit a radiation field in a 30 meter radius.

Your drop rates don’t in any way, shape, or form dictate what others may get.

I farmed Charged Lodestones for 8 hours over a week, got 2.

You actually think Abyss supply has anything to do with unidentified dye drop rates? Cute.

In fact, nearly all the Abyss (and other rare grays) is crafted by max lvl Cooks who also camp the TP for cheap Coriander. I used to do it but at the moment the profit margin is too low compared to my current activities.

While the droprate certainly contributes to the price of charged lodestones, i think that it’s silly to disregard high demand (needed for Sunrise and other gear) and ease of acquiring gold.

These people disagree with you, besides, if the supply was reliable, there would not be such an increased price with less and less on the TP
