Q:

BLUF: 2 part question-
1. Why are legendaries soulbound and not accountbound?
2. Does using a transmutation stone on the legendaries make them account bound?

I was curious if anyone knew why legendaries are soulbound rather then account bound. It seems to be that with all the time in effort puts into creating legendaries they should at least be to share the legendaries with other characters.

Especially since the gifts themselves are account bound. You can use other characters on your account to create the gifts needed for legendaries but then that character gets shafted because you can’t share them with that character.

I guess maybe a second question would be is if you use a transmutation stone on the legendary does it make it account bound.

If you transmute it onto a white item, yes.

You can use a transmutation stone to transmute the skin to a white item, this will keep the weapon as lengdary but convert it from soul bound to Account bound.

Then you move it to the character you desire, use a 2nd transmutation stone, this time get a max stat exotic and transmute again, once again pick the skin of legendary and stat of the exotic and you are done.

On side note, Porthos go back to AB =P

I would be very careful doing this, as when the legendaries are later updated to have ascended stats, we have no way of knowing whether transmuted legendaries will receive this boost or will stay as exotic.

Well if it’s easier to get these weapons and not 100 laurels +250e per weapon (I really have a hunch that it’ll be like this though) I don’t think it’s a problem. If you really don’t want that legendary on that character just do the transmutation, unless the purple text is more important to you than the skin.

But I would love to see these weapons account bound, I really don’t see why they weren’t in the first place.

Anet stated that IF they add ascended weapons, legendaries would keep their status and get a stat upgrade to match ascended weapons. But they said they didn’t have any plans of adding them, it was just a discussion.


I had a Bolt on my thief for a loooong time. After while I started making my 2nd Bolt with the hopes that by time I’d finish it, thieves would be able to off-hand wield swords (you know add new weapons for each classes to spice things up / add build variants to the game). Now I passed on my thief’s Bolt to my new mesmer who dual wields them.
Both Bolts are transmuted (berzerker). When you transmute your legendary to a white lvl 0 sword, it retains its purple name and all the sound and effects and looks and aura, BUT it loses its legendary status. You don’t see Legendary or Exotic, just transmuted.

If they do add ascended weapons, and Legendaries get a mystic forge recipe to upgrade stats to match ascended (like x fractal relic + gift of ascension + etc), transmuted ones won’t be recognized; you’ll have to grind drop one and transmute upgrade to get its stats.

Legendary weapons should be “account bound on use”, so we can use our 1400 gold items with our other characters. With constant nerfs/buffs some classes become unplayable or playable, why to stick to one character only ?

They should be acc bound. On top of that legendaries should coming with no stats (like fractal weps). To get stats we like, we should use a fixed recipe, as many times as we wish to change stats on them without trasmuting it. Its not some exotic wep as it takes load of time to get one.
