Account Bound Skill Points
I have tons of skill point scrolls constantly dropping, my new characters never have any needs. The only issue at this point with them is no option to consume a stack in one click. Same goes with luck.
I don’t see why not. Sounds like a good idea to me since I’m not too thrilled on the no more skill points past level 80.
With HotW on the definite horizon
I think you mean HoT (heart of thorns). HotW (honor of the waves) is the dungeon in Frostgorge.
I do like this idea. I’ve got over 200 SPs worth of consumable scrolls in my bank, as well as the level 20 scrolls which give 8 each. It’d give me a bit more bank space for sure.
So long Treeface.
“…Kormir? I know not of whom you speak.”
They said there would be skill points, just not from the level dings, and that they’d adjust the drop rates to make up for the loss of the level up source.
Sure, I’d like account wide for convenience, but I’m not worried the supply is going to dry up.
would make the lvl 20 scrolls useful actually
i could create 10x a new char and get 200 skillpoints

You only get 8 skill points per level 20 scroll. They changed that with the NPE.
The most useful thing for them is key farming. That’s the only thing I use them for.

to consume a stack , just go in the GW2 option and bound your mouse click to your mouse scroll .. then over the stack and spin that wheel ! .. revert to your original configuration .. .. stack consumed in less than a minute.
I support this. Always forget how many skillpoints each of my alts has.
No, but I really don’t care either way, and you really should use up your SP scrolls before HoT, because, if I recall, they said existing skill points would be converted into Mastery Points, the how an method to be determined…also, it could work that the SP scrolls will give you a method of gaining MP once HoT releases. That is something ArenaNet will have to determine and then decide what’s the best way to work it out.

NPE kittened too many things up

Wow, I learnt something useful on the forums. Thank you kind sir/lady!
First I though that we could have two skillpoint pools:
- A temporary one each character has while they level up, until they reach level 80 and unlock all skills and traits.
- And an account-wide one. Once a character has reached level 80 and unlocked all skills and traits, their remaining points and any new points they obtained get added to the account-wide pool.
This was so each character could have their own separate progression.
But, since you can already have skill scrolls for your other characters, the only difference between account-wide skill points and not having them is 1 or 2 storage slots in the bank.
We may as well just make them account wide, and since they are not used on any recipe, also make it so instead using up inventory space, Skill Point consumables get consumed on acquisition.
One less variable per character, less clutter in inventories, same effective functionality, improved quality of life.
The fewer, the better.
I say that’ll be a good idea.

I suggest you reread the info they have given us, because they haven’t said anything of the sort. Quite the opposite. We already know that Mastery Points will be completely unrelated thing.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It’s been made perfectly clear that the Mastery bar will NOT replace the XP bar, but you will be able to change between the 2….earning SP thru XP is NOT being removed by HoT (nor are SP or any items that generate SP). Now it may be that you can select between SP or Mastery points with those (or new) items, but they made it perfectly clear this will be a PLAYER choice, not a forced change (tho it may be that certain (new) maps DO only provide one or the other).
Back on topic, I would certainly like to NOT load multiple characters to check out SP numbers available when I need to spend some SP at the Forge NPC. Account bound SP would be much appreciated but I can see how this would alter a new character’s approach to unlocking traits or buying utility / healing skills.
On the other hand, it’s not like a new LVL 2 can’t use a veteran players stacks of SP scrolls now … /shrug
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances

I’m happy with the way it is. I think it works just fine.

I can’t find where to change this… where is it exactly under controls?

As I read it, the Mastery bar will replace the XP bar after level 80.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/reimagining-progression-the-mastery-system/
“The ability to train Masteries is unlocked at level 80 for all players that own Heart of Thorns. When this ability is unlocked, your character’s experience bar will change to become a Mastery training bar while in PvE zones.” (Snip) “Because the Mastery training bar completely replaces the experience bar, players who’ve reached level 80 will no longer gain levels but will instead train Masteries.”
ANet may give it to you.
We may as well just make them account wide, and since they are not used on any recipe
They aren’t used in recipes per se, but they are used as currency by the mystic forge vendor, 200 at a time for one of the items. A player with the requisite number SPs but only over different characters will not be able to obtain that item unless they focus on playing a single character over others.

I’m still holding out hope that the new “not earning skillpoints with every level” won’t be as bad as I’m thinking it might. I think this is a good idea considering what might be to come.

I just hope there’ll still be ways to get SPs to make all the mystic forge weps that I’ve been eyeing off.
So long Treeface.

Is this why I have a 5 point soulbound skills scroll on my 80 warrior, which says ‘double-click to consume’, but it won’t actually let me do so…? Is my only option just to destroy it, or should I log a ticket?

That sounds like a bug. You can either destroy it, contact support, or wait and see if it turns into the new Mystic Forge item after the update.

Make sure you are not in a PvP area, as some items won’t let you consume them there.
Good luck.

BINGO! Tx dude – been trying to use it in the PvP area every time is seems…blush
Happy to have been of some assistance! =)
The only thing that worries me, is the conversion rate. Will it be 1:1 with no change in the pricing? Will it be 1:1 but the price of items will increase effectively decreasing the value of our current points? Will it be like transmutation stones and be 3:1 leaving me with 2 skill points sitting there staring at me awkwardly wondering why they exist and what cruel god abandoned them?
Yes, I still have 2 transmutation stones that give me that look every time I log in, “Please, kill us.”

Even if you assume the conversion isn’t 1:1, you wouldn’t have any extras left over because they will still be obtainable.
