80 Necromancer (IRNY), 80 Guardian (IRNY)
GW2: it’s like DAoC, but for the WoW crowd.
What if non-quest linked waypoints were account discoverable rather than character discoverable? Yes, you would lose out on the XP for each character … but I believe the benefits would so greatly outweigh the drawbacks.
Opinions?
Or at the very least, it would be nice to have the Waypoints that were put in front of the Guild Puzzles and other guild events. It is very boring being locked into characters who have explored all of the wp’s for guild events, rather than being able to use the alt most in line with what we are doing.
For dungeons and such it voes not matter as much, since you only have to get to that zone and you will be pulled into the instance.
With as many 80s I have , it is nothing but a grind to get the waypoints I had already discovered numerous times on my other characters.
Considering this would aid tremendously in getting map completion for alts (Gift of Exploration) I find myself leaning against this idea. I’m not completely sure why… just feel to be honest…
I still just want a “mapmaking” NPC. One who can take the most complete character’s map, and then make copies of it for your other chars, but only unlocking the WP’s.
I wouldn’t mind having to pay some gold/Gems to unlock Wps on Alts!

Generally WP aren’t what’s holding back map completion. Even in Orr the “hard to get” WP are most of time contested, so you won’t be able to get the PoI not too far from there (and PoI aren’t also a bother when trying to get map completion in Orr).

I agree, the hardest thing to get for map completion, specifically in Orr, is often skill points.
Even if waypoints were account bound, you would still need to do all hearts, vistas, poi’s and skill points to get world complete. The waypoints are one of the easiest parts of the world complete task list, so account bound WP’s would not negatively impact this very much.
Also, I feel this would be a nice alt friendly feature that should have been added to this genre of game years ago. Personally I think the only things that should be character bound out of all those things are hearts and skill points. WP’s, PoI’s and Vista’s should all be account bound, as well as map exploration (map shroud). As a player of alts I hate having to repeat content and if I have already explored a region I don’t find it any fun having to explore it again. But hearts can be kept character bound for the sake of world completion and skill points can be kept character bound for the sake of character progression. All other things are pure XP gains and have no real reason to not be account bound.
The only issue with this is that empty zones will become even more empty since everyone will just WP from point to point to complete tasks, much like the champ trains. While I would love to have all the WPs for my alt right now, overall, I see it as a bad thing for the game.

That’s being addressed in the Horizontal Progression thread and shouldn’t be a reason to just make things harder on people. I mean, if people already have all the waypoints then they likely have enough money to craft out of the zone levels in question anyway. (or even sPvP past them)

Yes, it helps me, or you, as experienced players with one or more characters at 80, probably the financial means to keep new characters decked out in level appropriate gear and map completion on at least one, but what it doesn’t do is help those who are going through a zone for the first time and may actually need some help. Most mid-level zones only have a handful of people on them at the best of times and half of those are only farming mats for ascended and not interested in helping with events. Giving alts all the WPs gives people even less of a reason to go in to many of these zones, other than to farm mats.
It’s not about leveling or convenience, it’s about keeping some of these zones and the events within, viable.

right, but that is being addressed in the CDI – Horizontal Progression thread.
