Finally! Now I can buy the new sets and put them on appropriate characters, without worrying that I’ll be forced into a certain look.

What they didn’t realize, is that most of us would gladly buy all the permanent tools (with new skins) just to have different skins from time to time.

What we do not want, is to be forced into Soul Bound items.

Please, please, make Legendary Weapons account bound next. That way I can have a reasoning for buying new Legendaries.

For anyone wanting to make their Gathering Tools – ACCOUNT BOUND.

Un-equip your tools, so they are in your inventory. Then go to the Black Lion Specialist and use the new dialogue to upgrade them for free to Account Bound.

Just noting that while account bound tools cost 1000 gems now, your soulbound 800 gem tools can be exchanged to account bound for FREE (other than the tool, of course). You don’t need to pay 200 gems to convert it into account bound or anything like that.

Probably a decent move for the gathering tools, but I don’t think I could say the same for legendary weapons.

Great step in the right direction! Now if they could only apply it to everything else.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

Have they mentioned any kind of perks or reimbursement for those of us that bought a set of tools for each character BECAUSE they were soulbound?

Now all of my level 80s can enjoy one set passed around. Thank you!

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

I wouldn’t expect much. after all you said (by purchasing) that you were willing to pay 800 gems for a tool usable on one character and that’s what you have.

I like how people will probably complain about this change because they felt obliged to buy multiple tools because they were soulbound.

I love it. I have bought 13 permanent tools over the last year and now they’re all account bound, so I can give them to whatever character(s) I feel like playing most at the time being, it’s incredibly comfortable.

And I’m glad they made this change despite not announcing it (I wouldn’t have bought the Jack in the Box otherwise, but hey, it is permanent …). I knew what I got when I bought 800 gems for a convenience item and I got what was advertised. And now I got a great bonus.

So thank you very much.

Ummm we get to upgrade them for FREE, what more do you want? Oh you mean you would have only bought the one set? Well, errr I guess not……but atleast for some chars you don’t have to always hit a bank to get them you can just log in and play from anywhere to have unlimited tools.

Sensible move. I will spend gems accordingly.

I wasn’t complaining exactly, though it does suck. I spent 130 dollars on tools because I play 4-5 different characters regularly and I’d have totally just banked them.

Bright side, my new alts won’t need tools so yay.

I feel for you. Perhaps they could offer a free trade for future skins so you ATLEAST get to have different looking ones for each char. That would seem fair to me….

Now that one massive complaint since the release of the game has been recitfied, what next shall we complain about?

I never use to buy them because, well – alts. But when the next set comes a round I’ll probably get a set (don’t care for the creepy aesthetic of the currently available ones.)

I’m seeing a lot of complaints that they increased the price to $1000 – I don’t understand these people, as if they deserve everything free and/or cheap (but mainly free)

It’s obviously the trade-off from switching from soulbound to accountbound. Of course you’re going to have to be paying more. Anet would be losing a lot more money if they didn’t do that. And the fact that they priced it at 1000g, which at this quantity can’t be bought directly from the store smacks genius.

It’s a little bit of classic market segmentation, all businesses do this as much as they possibly can.

First you get everyone who is willing to buy unlimited tools per character at $10 a pop, apply a little pressure with the limited time offer to push people on the fence.

Next you switch to get the people who are willing to spend $12.50 for one that they can pass around to different toons.

They probably also figure that for some people, this will result in people buying 2-3 because moving it from toon to toon is a pain in the kitten.

Edit; This is not a complaint. Merely an explanation of what they are doing. It’s all about the amount of value you derive from the good and maximizing revenue while satisfying as many people as possible.

There’s a guy over on the BLTC subforum with 23 unlimited gathering tools. I’m very curious what Anet will do with that, but I’m 85% sure they will not refund him, which would be somewhat amusing.

He got what he paid for at the time. He now has the option of spreading them out over a number of characters anytime he wants.
