Account Wide Waypoints
would love this… i want to be able to bring along my alts for guild missions, jump into dungeons, etc. I have to make myself sit down and run my alts to specific waypoints to unlock the ones I need, but like i said, i would love to have them unlocked across all characters. I don’t even care about map completion for them, just the waypoints
((helping out non-thinkers since 1989))
Theres been a lot of threads about this but they always seem to lose momentum. But this would be nice. I’d totally be down for a toggle with a warning that allows you to enable unlocked waypoints, but your map completion will stay at 0% until you turn off the toggle which locks way points. But that sounds quite complicated and they already have so much to work on…. Would be a nice QoL feature though for those of us that get tired of running alts around just for the waypoints.
Yay, let’s make it so maxing a warrior lets you fly around the map on another character. If you’re going to make more than one character, you should actually have to play them. :s
Since map 100% is tied to making Legendaries, any such account wide unlock would have to take this into consideration. The most probable being that any char with this unlock will never be able to get any of the map completion rewards, including any Gifts of Exploration.
ANet may give it to you.

Having waypoints unlocked does not mean someone doesn’t want to play that character. They just want to take their character to where their friends are or where the action is without having to worry about do they have the nearest waypoint unlocked.
However, I’m not sure what the price should be since waypoints are part of map.completion which is character based and not account based.
Awhile back MarvelHeroes made the decision to incorporate this feature and it was just a huge quality of life enhancement that players loved. Basically, if you’ve managed to open up the world on a character and have seen it all, it really makes little sense to make you do it over and over. This particularly hurts the altoholic; account-wide features are very helpful. I would love to see this added to the game.

This. If you want the shortcuts then you have to forgo the rewards. Someone earlier mentioned being able to turn it off later to receive the rewards by then discovering all the WPs. I don’t agree with that either. Example: Player rolls alt with all WPs unlocked, uses them for quick easy access to all the other map completion requirements, then disables it so they can get map completion rewards by only rediscovering WPs. That player still took a shortcut to map completion and thus should not get the rewards.
If people are willing to give up map completion rewards and 100% completion rewards for this then I have no problem with it. Make it a gem store item WP Unlock Stone, 2000 gems, unlocks all WPs that have been discovered by any characters on an account, permanently removes the ability to receive any map completion rewards.

Why not just halve the rewards? One item instead of two, half as many materials, one Gift of Exploration at the end.

Because having all WPs unlocked makes map completion much, much easier. I can only imagine how much faster I could do it with all WPs unlocked. I’m guessing it would cut my time in more than half. If a player wants the luxury of having all WPs unlocked they don’t get the rewards. That seems fair to me. In other threads on this topic, people in support of account wide WP unlocks have also stated they would be willing to give up map completion rewards.
I support the idea of making map completion and waypoints accound wise.
For people talking about legendaries: It is pretty simple to fix it. Just make like the achievement point skins. After you unlock once, you can get infinite copies from the hero’s pannel.

Okay, but cutting out all rewards eliminates content from those players’ games (impossible to create legendaries). That seems very unreasonable. Realistically, having waypoints does nothing to the effort of map completion and everything to the time of it.

I think you were referring to my post about toggling on and off the ability to have unlocked waypoints. But I said if you have it turned on to have them unlocked then you would be given a warning that you will stay at 0% map completion no matter what you do until you turn the feature off and therefore the waypoints back off. Or you would stay at whatever percent your character is at such as 20%, which would remain locked at 20% when turning the feature on until you turned it off. Though that also sounds hard to do on a programming stand point.
If you’d make it so that you buy and item one time and no longer can get map completion ever again on you’re entire account I doubt a lot of people would go for that. Like what would happen to a character that had 80% done but you haven’t had the time to complete it yet?
It would have to be something you could choose to turn on for specific characters.
It also has to be able to stop that character from getting any map completion. Any other way will result in some type of justified QQ.

Just so I understand. So once you complete the map on one character you get infinite Gifts of Exploration? Yeah that won’t fly with people that have done 100% on several alts for those gifts.

I’ve done map 100% on 3 characters and I think it is a good idea.
Nowadays we can buy cars, that doesn’t sound far because people 300 years ago had to use horses…..

Yeah, my bad. I misread and thought you meant once turned off all the player would have to do is go to the WPs to get 100%. I see you meant, once turned off players would have to still do all the hearts, vistas, and POIs again to get 100%.

Infinite GoE’s would significantly trivialize the quest for a legendary. 100’s of times more so than when they removed WvW for 100% completion. It would basically make an account capable of crafting a legendary in much less time. We are not talking hours or a few days, we are talking many days to weeks depending on play time and dedication to the map completion task.
Under the infinite GoE rational, Gift of Battle should be account wide unlock as well. No more ever having to WvW once it is done. All the other gifts as well, no more farming for mats. You see where this is going. Once you have all the gifts unlocked for your account all you ever have to do is acquire the precursor.

Trivialize making a legendary? I thought that be able to straight up buy from TP was already trivializing….
Yes, make gift of batte account wise makes sense. Oh wait, badges of honor are already account wise and the cost for the gift is so cheap that it is a joke. 1gift = 5 alpha golem blue prints…..
If you’re going to make more than one character, you should actually have to play them. :s
Because the entire game is just about getting the waypoints, after you got them all you basically completed the game…

Yes it would trivialize the process for those that craft them and either chose to keep them or sell them on the TP for those that wish to buy.
Also I was talking about making all Gifts infinite like you suggested for GoE. If you are going to make it infinite for one gift, might was well make it for all. Why not? If map exploration is taken out of the equation once unlocked you might as well take away all the other requirements once unlocked, right? Way to pick one example I mentioned even though I stated all gifts later on in my post to try to support your argument.
If you can’t see the flaws in your idea that GoEs should be infinite once unlocked I don’t know what to tell you aside from I am most certain that will never happen. Good luck with your idea though.

You are trying to make a logical fallacy using an hyperbole. Exaggerating to the extreme. Just because 1 gift is made account bound does not mean everything should be removed. If you want to follow that logic that 1 thing fits all, then waypoints SHOULD be account bound because the badges of honor that buy gift of mastery are too.

Your line of thinking is the is like saying: you can’t buff a skill by1%, because if you buff it by 1000% it would be op….
Also comparing gifts that are obtained with personal progression with the others that you buy with trade-able items makes no sense.
I remember why this thread topic never goes anywhere now. Lol
Unlikely to happen. Unlocking them all takes times, which keeps you busy and in the various maps, which pads their metrics.

Sorry I don’t continue debates with people that resort to internet argument cliché. Heck you even included the link to fallacies. You forgot to use “straw man” by the way. Have a nice morning/day/night or what ever it is where you are.

So after using a fallacy you complain about me pointing out that your argument is based on a fallacy? Hahaha. Nice troll. 7.5/10

One could say that you’ve got no logical argument and have resorted to calling JustTrogdor a troll to change the attention away from the argument.
I kind of like this thread let’s not de rail it. By all means derail that meta bully ppl thread. I think some of the suggestions here are cool. Such as my own :-D
Even though yeah it’s unlikely to be implemented due to the man power it would take to do so.
Id be happy with a simple map of the world which you could buy at the store for gems which would at least show you where all the waypoints were, even with them still locked.
You would still have to go there to unlock them , but at least you would know where there was.
Ive been slowly trying to do all the jumping puzzles, and most of the information about them always starts off with “Go to this waypoint” which in most cases is meaningless unless you have previously been there and know where it is.

It’s free and shows everything you asked for. One note: does not include Dry Top or Silverwastes. But they don’t count for map completion anyway.

If you have extra money or extra snowflakes, then you can buy
Twisted Watchwork Portal
Its a consumable that will teleport you someplace random. If you use 20 of these, you ought to get tlpprted next to waypoints on most maps, including long runs like Orr or Fireheart Rise.
This consumable can save a Tome leveled character a lot of time in getting essential Waypoints like Tequatl, Cursed Shore, or Citadel of Flame. It’s worth the gold to save your time.
Its craft able with candy Ron, snowflakes, sprockets and zhaitaffy. The recipe is currently being price manipulated but is still available for under one gold.
wp tie to character map exploration, map exploration tie to gift of exploration.
I will suggest if the account get his first map completion, allow other character of the same acc able to buy undiscovered wp for 1g each.
Wow, lots of replies…
I know there is not an ideal solution here. However, I think a relatively simple solution would be to separate World Completion from Legendary crafting. World Completion would still give you the star by your name and possibly a new title or some other reward, while Gift of Mastery would be tied to a new system or other character specific activity (i.e. event participation, personal story completion, etc.).
How about a seperate use for the Gifts of Exploration. You get two with your map 100%. If you give a Gift of Exploration to an alt and double click on it, it opens up all waypoints for that alt and that alt only and that alt is then ineligible to get any map completion rewards on itself. This will allow people to do one map 100% once then use the Gifts (since the people posting here don’t seem to value them for making Legendaries) to open waypoints for 2 alts. If you later want to make a Legendary or open up for 2 more alts, you do map 100% on a different char.
ANet may give it to you.
I am OK with giving each map ONE Waypoint that unlocks accountwide.
That’s enough to let you get to the map with each new character but doesn’t trivialize the leveling or legendary process.
