“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
Good idea. I like it
I think it is about as good of an idea as it is using such things to determine if you should be allowed in a dungeon run.
Bad idea. I don’t like it.
I understand that these things have little representation of a players skill, but it is also a good way to gauge the level of experience, where someone primarily plays, and much easier to point out biases.
More information doesn’t guarantee that information will be interpreted correctly.
Presenting more background data on posters provides more information on where the opinions are coming from, but everyone’s going to weight those data points differently, and people can use those points to dismiss each other’s (possibly valid) points, or stroke their own egos.
Would this happen? Not every time, but it would definitely happen. Stats like these wouldn’t be all-upside, and I don’t think they’d be quite as valuable here as you might think.
If people want to provide background info, I think it’s enough to say so in the post, or in their signatures.
Number of 80 toons.
Achivment points.
PvP Rank.
WvW rank.
Acquired legendaries.
AP, PvP rank and WvW rank are a good idea, but legendaries and 80s aren’t, imo. Legendaries come down to gold grind, and the amount of 80s only tells you anything about the diversity of what they play. I only have two 80s, but I’ve played enough to have many, many more. I don’t want my opinions on endgame, dungeons, boss events, etc. discarded because I like my Guardian.
I have a low WvW rank, so clearly I don’t know anything. I didn’t play it non-stop before WXP, I don’t escort dolyaks and I certainly don’t scout… /sarcasm
While I believe we’d get some slight use from this, I can see it being far more trouble than it’s worth. Why should someone’s opinion be belittled just because they didn’t grind out every living story achievement, or because they don’t chase after legendaries? A main versus a menagerie of alts? The only one that I can see making any sense is possibly PvP rank, but what about the people that just farm that in those fixed farming matches?
I say judge people by what they post, not by some statistics which can be inflated/deflated compared to their actual experience.
I suggested 80s for class experience although this is usually a non factor for things like PvP. But usually a higher ranked PvPer does have a global understanding of game sense.
And I suggested legendaries so that when you have a guy comment on how the RNG in the game is fine you’d be able to spot a bias, if the topic did come up.
It is true to much elitism is born from such a thing but I figure most veteran players will have the primary part of the game they enjoy and that would show in their stats.
anyways the point I feel to add these was mainly to excuse bias and be able to show who needs to learn in certain areas.
as an example
I personally don’t WvW and because it’s not the part of the game I typically participate in I think it’s perfectly reasonable for players to ignore me if I make outlandish statements regarding it.
But I’m under the impression that outside of trolling, most of us here are reasonable adults and would still hone in on ideas that seemed to make sense within a certain field of play.
I do understand the concerns and the problems it could cause tho… the problem I think is that players hold way to much pride in these types of stats but I still think it might be for the better.
At the very least we’d prob get less QQ threads or giving attention to them.

Are you one of the devs in disguise OP? Seems like some of the foolishness they would throw at us.
I don’t think my posts are constructed well enough to be a dev altho I do admit some of my ideals are a bit foolheady :p
But I’ve told scrubs openly to L2P and quit QQing if you check my post history, as well as saying things like kitten and kitten <- forcing the sensor so no. I’m not xD
But I mean forums for other games at least have some information, so can’t be all that bad?

In-game people can only see my achievement points if we have both added each other as friends, they are a member of a guild that I belong to or if I party up with them. It would be strange for the forum to display information like this considering “randomers” can’t easily access the information.
Of course, there could be show/hide settings for this sort of information. Have it by default hidden and allow forum users to show the information if they wish to.
I don’t really see what kind of benefit it would hold. To be honest I think it would give those with lots of AP/lots of chars some weird sense of authority over those with less of both. Just seems like a way to cause more drama imo… and forum drama is the worst kind of drama.

Got bad news for you I’m afraid, anyone can see your achiv points in game if they add you, as long as you’re online, you don’t have to add them.
You can look up peoples AP and such in teh leaderboards section.

Oh yeah, that’s right… I was thinking of the box that appears when you scroll over their name on your friends list (there’s a box that comes up that shows Achi points and location, but I forgot that there’s a separate column in friends list for AP).
Well… I still feel that having easy (easier) access to such details would result in biases. There was a thread a few days ago about having profile pictures on the forum as well, and somebody commented that they like the minimalist design this forum has. You’re drawn to what somebody has to say, not what they look like or other information.
