Achievement Chests could use an update

A time long long ago, before the wardrobe update, achievement chests gave out a boat load of free PvP skins. That was kinda cool, can we get those back in some way?

As it stands now we only get some badges of honor, some karma, some blueprints, a booster or 2, some mystic forge stones, and maybe a useful gemstore item. That’s not a whole lot. The gold and laurels and account boosts are awesome, but the chest you get has been lacking for a while and it would be nice if it could be updated.

Dare I ask for…
Wardrobe unlocks?
Mini eggs?
Tickets and ticket scraps?
Miniature tickets?
Guarenteed keys?
TP to friends?
Free pick your own dye?
Pick you own currency chest? (like HOT maps? or dungeons? crystalline ore?)
Proofs of heroics?
Provisioner tokens? Bloodbound weapons?
Guild Commendations?
Fractal Relics?
WvW and PvP reward track potions?

I mean I’m just spit ballin’ here for things to add but there alot of nice things you could give out, and I would love it if an improvement was on the table.

P.S. Can you please make the achievement armor dyeable please and thank you.

Good luck asking Anet to update their old systems.

They either leave features to rot after their first implementation, or take years to further reiterate on them. Not to mention that, most of the times, their overhauled systems come of worse than they initially were to being with (hello, first trait overhaul, New Player Experience and black lion chest overhaul) or take away as much as they give (hiya, last daily system overhaul, or evne the ambitious, grand, expansion-worthy system guild hall system).

ANet develops by accretion. This means that instead of going back and fixing up existent systems, they’ll add a new one in the hopes that eventually it replaces the old one because players stop interacting with the old.

This is also how the new mini-zones coming with the LS work: Instead of being temporary, they’re permanent but quickly make themselves irrelevant so they can be left in without requiring much future work.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

I agree that achievement chests are currently underwhelming but I’m not sure if they should be changed. You already get rewards from the content itself and frequently from the individual achievements too, so it doesn’t bother me that the achievement point chest isn’t that exciting.

If they did add a new reward I think it shouldn’t be anything new that’s exclusive to the chests – both because then they wouldn’t need to make it retroactive because anyone who wants it can get it another way and because then people won’t feel pressured to chase achievements unless they want to.

I like the idea of adding a wardrobe unlock, that would be very close to the original idea of awarding random skins. The only thing that puts me off is they can be annoying in their own right – I’ve got 2 sitting in my bank waiting for some hypothetical future when I’ve got all the easy to obtain skins so I don’t get something ‘disappointing’ from them, but even though I got a rare skin from the one I did use it was still disappointing because it was a focus I’ll probably never use.

A currency choice chest, or a choice of other items would be good. Overall I much prefer guaranteed rewards to random ones, and making it a choice increases the chance that everyone will be able to get something they want from it.

(Also I completely disagree that Anet never change existing systems. That’s kind of funny considering the most common comment from returning players is that the game has changed so much they hardly recognise it. And especially when talking about a system that wasn’t in the game originally and was added as part of a major re-work to the whole achievement system.)

I think it would be cool to have a guaranteed wardrobe unlock in the massive achievement chests. Considering the effort involved in getting 5k AP, I think its not too much. And it would be easy enough to award retroactively

They would have to ADD things to the chests and then retroactively reward those who have already reached those achievements. Otherwise, if they removed/swapped items, they would have to, what, ask players to give back the rewards they already received?

I don’t see either happening, but would be pleasantly surprised if there was a change. But personally, I’m okay with the current rewards.

Eh, this stuff is normally just “from now on”, in the same way that things you earned in the past and turned into gold don’t get retroactively fixed or whatevs…
