Achievement Points

Yeah i’m hoping the rewards system will give us something for these soon.
They are just sitting around doing nothing atm.
Dunno about the GW3 thing tho. odd.
There are/were plans (announced back in January) to add additional rewards to achievements and rewards based on total points. Since recent achievements rewards items, maybe that’s as far as they’re going to take it now.

I hope they reward only “fixed” achievements, not repeatable like Dailies and Monthlies, those already reward us with Laurels/coin/karma

We’re still working on a system that rewards bonuses and rewards for achieving various thresholds of achievement points on your account. More news on this soon!

How soon is “soon” :P see someone like me sitting on 10k achievement points have been begging for such a system for months now.

well, given that most of the time, when Colin give us a soon followed by a " ! " they are sooner than you would expect, im ok with this. Lets hope it is before the end of the year anniversary.

If you got most of those through the small repeteable achievements like “Agent of Entropy”, I would expect you to be in for a bad awakening when those points are not considered in the achievement rewards. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s one of the reasons why it’s taking so long for ArenaNet to implement this – finding a way to reward achievement points without rewarding ways to basically exploit them.

Come on ANet where that spirit of openness we had before launch… and by that I mean I want to know now! :P

That would punish new players that missed out on “Living Story” achievements.

Only if the threshold were so high that you NEEDED the Living Story points in order to get past it.

If they simply reward total achievements points, you can get the max rewards without ever doing an actual achievement. Just do dailies. Missing points from the Living Story doesn’t even matter.

This is good news , just make sure the salvaging and living story do not count towards it

They patched Hobby Dungeon Explorer and Agent of Entropy when they launched the highscores (not that i had more then 200 AP in either of them) so its capped.
I have pretty much fully completed every tab there is and am one of the highest NA AP holders there is.

I wonder what’s Anets view on the situation that Living Story achievement points and daily/monthly ap count towards the normal achievement points. Personally I love how the HoM works. I also love it’s rewards: armorsets, minis, weaponskins… awesome!
i know dungeon/speed clear groups who wont take anyone if you don’t have over a certain amount of points.
:D strong considering dungeoning/fotming gives no achievements points.

can you pls fix how they are awarded first?
For the love of god please just give us laurels, I need them badly.

Achievement points are awarded by doing Achievements.
Like Daily or Monthly ones. Living story, Slayer, etc.
It’s a compensation system. If you play 8+ hours a day, you’ve got to compensate over people who work 8+ hours a day. Achievement points do exactly that.
For the record, I have 4.8k.

What happened to the days when an achievement felt like something. whats with all this every day stuff earning us points I feel like i’m being spoon fed these points with no actually effort.
where are the achievements for killing so many creatures in a set time, killing a boss in some crazy fashion. Speed running a jump puzzle. where are the actually achievements we can be proud of?
Wasn’t that the point of achievements in the first place to be something we could show of and say “hey look what crazy thing I managed to pull off”

Cool.
Does ANet plan on rewarding people for their skill rather than for mindless farm and achievements ??

I hear the new jumping puzzle will reward a exotic piece. So that would probably qualify

Marketing happened. Achievements are an easy way to create additional content at little cost. They provide a goal where otherwise, there’d be no reason to do something except to just be doing it. They’re now just used as a trick to make you feel like you’re being rewarded, when really, all you’re getting is a line of text.
When the casual market joined in, difficult content had to be made easier to appease the masses. Why develop hard content when only the 1% will be able to do it. During this transition, achievements went from being something rare and challenging to being something that everyone had and if you didn’t, you were bad.
More recently, achievements are being used to just get you to do something which otherwise you may not do. For example, an achievement for liking something on facebook. Welcome to the future, where in the year 2014, achievements are rewarded for watching commercials on tv.
To be fair, part of the reason we don’t have have rewards for achievements now (other than a few for Living Story, and exploration) is because they don’t want infinite-point-value achievements to skew the rewards.
… And the Xbone apparently has an Xbox live achievement for pre-ordering it.

Wasn’t that the whole point of the occupy movement, that the masses shouldn’t suffer for the actions of a few. The inconvenient truth being that casuals are a greater market share than hardcores, plus that market share actually has the financial means to support the game (since hardcore gaming and having a job+family are mutually exclusive). So not only does the casual market have the absolute numbers, they also have the financial trump card. It makes sense to cater to the rich majority instead of the hardcore minority.
That said, I don’t think casual content equals easy content. Imho, casual means time limited. Casual content should never take more than 20 minutes to complete. Guild Missions are by no means easy, but they have a 15 minutes timer which makes them perfect for casual yet hard play.

That would punish new players that missed out on “Living Story” achievements.
Following that logic, every aspect of PvE punishes new players. They start at zero, just like the rest of us did, and that’s how it should be.
Veteran players are given nine months of living story opportunities in their first nine months, and new players are given nine months of living story opportunities in their first nine months. It wouldn’t make sense any other way.

hope we can spend the achievemtns points in furniture for future housing,or npc to grant temporary boons in the home instance,or possible henchmen even rewards that mark some point landmark..now laurels and stuff is just lame
I hope they go back towards the “titles” of gw1. Not just displaying a title above your name mind you, but the ones that had in game effect.
The “lucky” title gave you a higher chance for salvaging and retaining a lock pick. “wisdom” gave a salvage bonus. And all of the EotN titles had special PvE bonuses for being in an area, with skills that got stronger based on how high your title was (don’t think that last one would work with the new system though).
It’d be nice if our achievements could give a passive MF%, a better chance to get ectos/runes from salvaging, etc. Heck even something small like a +5% damage vs. an enemy type would be a reason to bother with the slayer achievements.

I like that idea, as long as the bonuses are minimal and restricted to PvE. They would have two logical ways of implementing that, one where achievement completion gives you the (hidden) buff 100% of the time in PvE, and one where the title you’re wearing can give you a specific (visible) buff in PvE.
For achievement completion, they could do things like creature slayer achievements give +2% damage to that creature type, each tier of “Master of Entropy” gives a 1% discount (up to 50%) on salvage kits bought from merchants, or each tier of “Emergency Response Hero” completed gives +2% experience from event completion.
For the title you’re wearing, they could do things like “The Emperor” gives +15% magic find, “Master Crafter” gives a +15% gathering boost, “Dungeon Master” gives you +5% running speed in dungeons, or “Combat Healer” let’s you revive allies 10% faster.
