Achievement Points Received in Error
Should they fix it? Yes.
Does it hurt you? No.
Should you care if they fix it? No.
It’s clear that this is bothering you. You should stop caring so that it doesn’t impact your enjoyment of the game in a negative way since it doesn’t impact your game in a negative way.
man, why are you so hung up on everyone else
Clearly you both created a new character on the 16th.
I suspect they’ll focus on limiting the damage, for now. They’ve already disabled HoM rewards, and then they’ll probably fix the bug pretty soon (if they haven’t already. It hasn’t appeared in the patch notes, but some people seem to think the bug is fixed, at least partly). Reverting the AP gain will probably take longer. But will most likely be done eventually.
I’m not sure what they’ll do about the AP chest rewards people gained, but they presumably have a policy in place for it, given the recent AP reversion for the BL collections.
Yeah, while I agree this is an issue and should be reverted, I don’t think it is urgent. They must, as has been said, have a system for dealing with duplicate AP chest rewards, and it will always be possible to see how many actual HoM points are linked to the account.
That said, as someone who plays GW1 to unlock HoM stuff, I’m a little afraid to do anything in that game at the moment, in case it confuses the rollback.
I can’t say I’m really worked up by the fact that somebody else received some titles and some Achievement Points in error.
And this is from someone that is, at this very moment, sitting at 59 APs away from 15,000.
Anet will do whatever they will do about it.
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’
Gaile said it’s being fixed. I’m not sure how they’ll deal with the achievement chests, especially if people have opened them and used any consumables.
I definitely think it needs to be addressed for the GWAMM titles, because that’s no joke and people shouldn’t have that title if they didn’t put in the monumental effort required to get it. I’ve noticed a few more people displaying it over the last few days than I’ve seen before…
Not everyone who made a character got the extra APs. The Devs have already stated this was being addressed.
I don’t think everyone should be awarded the extra APs and title, what would be the purpose, exactly, of doing so? Everyone in-game should have the GWAMM title? That would put it on par with Queen Jennah mini-pets. Lol.
Clearly you both created a new character on the 16th.
False statement is false.
yeah i have never played gw1 thus have 0 achievements, yet i dont care about the people that got them with the exploit. how could that be?!
Well, I’ll say I’m super bummed I didn’t do any key farming on the 16th. Assuming I even noticed it. More so assuming that it didn’t just give you stupid pointless titles and chests I don’t need, but also gave you access to all the skins and the minis, I’d have grabbed them all and seen how long I could hold onto them.
But I didn’t, and honestly, anyone who did, good for them, I don’t care if they got something I didn’t, it doesn’t bother me.

Prior to the HoM rewards being disabled, trying to use a HoM Portal Stone conveniently caused a client crash. So I think few, if any, people actually got hold of HoM rewards (skins/minis) they weren’t supposed to. It’s mostly just the AP chests.
The achievement chests dont have to be reverted even if the AP is. The game keeps up with which chests you get. say someone with 300 points got the 400 extra. They would get their 500 AP chest with the 1000 being the next one. When they get the 400 removed, they could keep the 500 chest and their next chest could still be the 1000 chest even if they still only have 300 AP. This would be the best fix for the issue. People who did get them would still be ahead with their chests (until they actually pass the AP number for that chest), but it wouldnt really matter in the long run even if they quit (who cares if an account that isnt used has 400 AP with their next chest at 1000?)
problem solved

Ah, then I super don’t care about any of it.

I’ve spent hours and hours and months to get 50 HoM points + GWAMM, of course I would be upset when everyone gets it through a glitch. It would indirectly harm me by making my accomplishments worthless, so it’s not egoistic or something to hope that this gets cleared.

That is pretty much how I would expect it to be handled.

Actually, it is exactly egotistic to hope that it gets cleared. Your sense of accomplishment (part of the ego) is being harmed and your ego’s desire to maintain it’s self worth is causing you to desire the perceived slight to be reverted.
Nothing was actually done to you, but you perceive a slight here because your ego wants you to believe that you are superior to others, not the same as them.
Pretty basic psychology stuff and nothing wrong with it (it’s natural), but if it causes you to lose your enjoyment of the game then you should acknowledge it for what it is and ignore it.

How does it make your accomplishments worthless? You did the work to get it, and have had it for all that time, able to lord it over everyone that you do and worked for it. How does it change anything if others were then able to get it easier?
What about the people who just played GW for all that time and happened to have accumulated all the things? They didn’t work hard for the achievement, they just got it because they happened to have it by then. Don’t they also make all your hard work pretty worthless?

You got a point there, “not egoistic” isn’t really true. However, it’s the kind of egoism that is the basis for everything (including everything in a MMO): accomplishment -> reward. If that wasn’t true, you could simply remove dungeon marks, wvw marks, everything, and make everything for free, because nobody is harmed when everyone gets everything.
So yeah, maybe I am egoistic, but in a necessary way (and people tend to use that term in a negative connotation, I fear…)

For the last question: no, of course not. Whenever I see somebody with one of those titles, I know “oh, they did the same things like me, great that they managed to do that” and not “oh, probably a bug user…”.
And that’s the exact way my “accomplishments get worthless”. A big part of MMOs is to show what you were able to get, be it nice skins, a legendary, a title… of course its not the only or the most important aspect (because enjoying what you do should has the highest priority), but its neither an unimportant aspect.
PS: Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved GW1 and collecting points/titles there.

Yeah, and what is wrong with that principal? The idea with titles is that they are a distinction, a declaration of accomplishment. Whether he calls that element ego or some other term is not the issue. It’s a valid concern that people who have worked hard for rare titles don’t wish to later see them handed out for free in error. And semantics aside, we all know it.
No one should get to keep titles they acquired due to a bug. I imagine we are all agreed on that.

Where did I say there was something wrong with it?
Egoism isn’t “wrong”, but it can be harmful if it goes too far.
This isn’t such a case (at least not yet!).
Just clarifying.
I like the logistical gymnastics it takes for people to infer it shouldn’t be fixed because you shouldn’t care.
Somehow its okay that people receive reward and recognition in error for accomplishments they didn’t even attempt and egotistical to want that error corrected to preserve the integrity of the reward system.
These bugged HoM rewards would be like if I was in the Guinness world record book for running the fastest 10k because I drove to work.
That wouldn’t fly in any type of achievement and game and still have people take it seriously. It is not wrong people want thier recognition to be equitable and taken seriously. People are just going to have to deal with not getting free stuff.

I find it interesting that anyone can infer that anyone else implied it shouldn’t be fixed just because they think people who were not directly effected by it shouldn’t care. If something is broken it should be fixed. More so, since it appears that this bug goes hand in hand with being unable to access HoM.
Whether or not it should be fixed, though, has nothing to do with people getting kitten that it exists in the first place, when it doesn’t actually effect them.

yes it should be fixed, and people that got the achievement points and titles this way should have it taken away. but i’m not going to worry about it and spend every second awake having a heart attack over other people.
let anet deal with the issue and move on
