As an avid achievement hunter in every MMO I play I cannot feel anything but sad with this new update. From now on you get 25 points for free per day, meaning that hard earned achievements like for example the plant slayer become utterly useless since anyone spamming dailies will beat me in points within a single day (plant slayer achievement can take quite a while to say the least)

The value was already lessened with the infinite achievements but this pretty much hits the last nail in the coffin. There is absolutely no reason for any achievement hunters to play this game anymore, every bit of fair competition is gone. The idea is that eventually people finish the achievements and can say, I achieved this. Instead we have an infinite hamsterwheel which holds no value gameplay wise.

Not a single MMO ever had infinite points into their achievement system since it ruins the entire purpose, why do you try to reinvent the wheel when it worked for over a decade?

I think the legacy achievements are under review atm. I think it’s their intention to have those achievements also contribute rewards similair to the dailies so it wouldn’t surprise me if they also made changes to how many points they were worth. To be honest, there currently is no value to achievement points at the moment, the ability to infinitely salvage more points has resulted in accounts with thousands more points than anyone else.

They should have never rewarded dailies and monthlies with points so that achievement points meant something.

They already give rewards, why even add points to it? I would really love to see a developer’s response to see their reasoning for this decision.

Apparently the player base of this game like infinite hamsterwheels. ANet gives the majority of players what they want. Not much we can do about it.

what’s the point of points?
Dailies and monthlies rewarding points show how much you can be bothered to do your dailies every day, your monthlies every month and how long you have been playing. As it stands getting achievement points, like in any other MMO, is pointless.
With the new system there achievement points will be able to mean something. You know what I want to see? Separate currency for achievements that are not repeatable that you can use to buy skins for transmutation or pets. That way your points at least mean something in game

Totally agree with this. I was saddened to see dailies give achievement points as now there are people that spam dailies and way ‘ahead’ of me (as the achievement points are the only thing you can see from other players) but it’s far from all the HARD achievements I’ve accomplished.

It used to measure how many unique things someone has done and was pretty good as an indicator first month or so.. but now it’s meaningless. I was hoping it would have stayed a way to see how far people have progressed in deeper ways (such as equipping legendaries, completing all jumping puzzles, etc)

To be honest, there currently is no value to achievement points at the moment

Some people find them as much a point of pride as others find flashy particle effects on a weapon to be.

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but achievement values have been and always will be useless no matter what the game is. they maybe fun to obtain, but beyond that they serve no purpose

How do they beat you in points within a single day? You only have 20 points in achievement?

Wait…you get 25 points for doing nothing? Where’s that?

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”

They hold the same value as your legendary, the value you attach personally to it.

How do they beat you in points within a single day? You only have 20 points in achievement?

You obtain 25 per day, a maxed slayer achievement which can take from 6 to 24 hours grinding gives 16.

Basic math can’t be that hard.
