Achievement burned out
My thought is: If you find the content less than to your liking, refrain from doing it. I have skipped some LS Metas because they weren’t my cup of tea (such as the current one). I don’t begrudge others who do like it. I am not sure having less things to do during a patch is the best plan, but that’s just me. =)
Are there any LS achievements that take 2 weeks to grind out? Ignore the fact that the LS sticks around for 4-6 weeks total.
Personally I stopped caring about grinding the achieves all together. I was in the top 40s but i found it was making me hate the game more and more and becoming a massive chore to play rather than something i was doing for fun.
I wish the meta-achievement added the skin to the same panel that the hellfire/radiant skins are on rather than being forced to have it on a single toon (super alt unfriendly). Living story/world feels sub par to the story the game already presented, which wasn’t all that great to begin with and i don’t see it keeping more players in the game (or bringing back old ones) as more mmo’s arrive on the market.
That being said i think if all future living story/world going forward was more Lore+Reward driven well executed content, more alt friendly in the rewards, and no longer a time based achievement grind, it would add to the over-all game experience while satisfying the hardcores, semi casuals, and the all around gamer.

Exactly. I’ve done a lot of LS achievements, and enjoyed them, but there’s a fair few that I’ve just skipped because I wasn’t very interested. (Super Adventure Box and Fractured, for example.) If I skip them, I’m not, by my reckoning, severely penalized. (Since I’ve mostly missed out on knickknacks or AP.)
I’m sure they can get exhausting if you’re a completionist, but I’m not sure an MMO is the best genre to be a completionist in.
I recently made the decision to stop achievement grinding. I did every single LS achievement and every daily achievement since the rewards were first introduced.
I got burned out.
Now I’m just doing enough to get my laurel, and the meta done for LS. With daily achievements counting towards the LS meta, they’re easily obtained now. I’m not even going for the fractal meta, because…. bloodstone bricks, really?
Right now I"m just focused on some long-term goals. Getting 150 tourney wins. Raising fractal level and using the tokens to buy ascended for alts. Doing more WvW with alts in anticipation of account bound exp. Making ~5g a day to save up for one of the new legendaries (or ascended armor).
Well OP I hate having to do stuff and the 2 weeks thing made me feel rushed and not doing things I like.
So I burned out on the LS right around when ascended weapons were introduced.
I only do it now if it looks interesting and only for as long as it remains interesting to me.
I gave up counting AP’s sometime after I hit 5000.
At the moment my medium goal is crafting Eye of Rogort- that and just playing in the game doing stuff I enjoy
The achievement rat race is primarily what drove me away from the game. Other things contributed, but this was the major factor.
And they’ll never get rid of it, which means all new content will to some extent be designed around achievements, which means I won’t be coming back any time soon.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
If you’re burned out, stop doing it, do something else. I for one could care less about achievement points. It’s exactly like the people caring about getting their daily/pvp daily and monthly/pvp monthly done. I used to be like, “Oh crap, I HAVE to get this daily done or else I’ll be so behind.” At one point I forced myself to finish my dailies, it felt like a total chore. One day I didn’t get it, then the next, and the next day after that. After the third day not finishing my daily I felt a huge weight off of me. I didn’t really feel anything. Sure I don’t have my cat tonic yet, but other than that there’s really no feeling of being “behind.”
I stopped caring about the LS after the dragon bash, and I only did them to get the skin rewards and stuff, never for AP.
Seriously, if you’re getting burned out from doing LS, I suggest you just stop. And if you feel like you’ll be behind on AP because you’re not doing it, then just stop playing this game altogether.
A game is supposed to be fun, not a chore.
ANet is playing the “addiction” game with us when it comes to achievements (by making any bonus above 5 points count as well), Living Story (by putting out meta achievements with each biweekly update) and giving us rewards that are kind of useless (backpack skins, cinematic books/models etc.) which we don’t want to throw away. The last thing applies to LS quest items as well: Will we ever need those again? Voting tokens, Captain’s Council Commendations, Gauntlet tickets)
ANet could have designed the game differently, but decided not to.
Some items could be placed in your home instance (e.g. the Marjory cinematic book or the bazaar model), added to the Zenith skins tab in your hero menu (even if it can be removed from there just once), automatically removing all LS-quest items (which are soul bound most of the time) from the inventory, when the event is done.
In addition to that, I find it hard to have faith in what Devs are saying these days (or what they are being allowed to say): e.g. For a very long time, account bound WvW ranks & XP – they repeatedly said – will never happen due to design choices + technical reasons. Now it is possible.
What does all of this mean for a player of GW2?
He/she probably has to be bold and step back. Get out of the farming trains and start to find parts of the game that are fun and entertaining – an no chores.
It will not make Anet’s decision makers change anything, but you might be able to enjoy a good game others have turned into a time-sink, grind fest & loot train.
Still keeps a volume of Kurzick poems ;)
I do the ones I feel like doing, if I feel like doing them. I don’t make a chore out of the game. So no, not feeling burned out on achievements for LS. Heck, for this LS, I can’t even find a group to do the fractals stuff with, which is really ticking me off. I seriously want my heroes back for this instanced stuff so I don’t have to “hunt for hours” to find people to play with.
I get what OP is saying, because I used to feel like that until I actually stopped to think about what is actually required of these LS events. Things to consider:
a) LS events stay at minimum 4 weeks, and in many cases 6-weeks.
b) There are dailies that progress the LS meta achievement: no joke I’ve completed entire metas without doing anything except for the dailies.
c) The AP gain from the LS achievements have been drastically reduced. Not many give more than 3AP these days.
d) Once you have the meta achievement, if you care to get that, there’s nothing really driving you to do the rest of the achievements. If you are stressing over the last 8-12AP you could get, that’s on you. Because if you aren’t competing on the leader board, who really cares?
So for example, the Nightmare Tree LS. I just finished the meta and didn’t even know I was close. I don’t even have half of the achievements needed for the meta, I just got it from dailies. I looked at the rest of the ones I would need and they wouldn’t even net me 20AP, so I’m not going to chase after them. Why would I?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
