I was wondering if is there or will be a mechanic that uses achievement points to i.e. acquire new skins (achievement points required to unlock item, then karma or laurels used to buy it).
Other than knowing how much one achieved there’s not much to it now (?).

I played Rift for a bit and certain achievements gave certain goodies.

well good to see there is some stuff out there. I would prefer to get a laurel for some achievement points.

People asked this question when the Laurel system was announced. ANet said that achievement points will have a purpose in the future, separate from the Laurel system. Last we heard about it, they were considering how they will remove the infinite achievements people stocked up on since they wouldn’t fit into the new system.

I don’t understand this. Why would they remove any AP from the player? Isn’t this like your score in the game, like someone else said, almost like a status symbol? I worked hard to get my ~2600 AP. The idea of spending achievement points seems peculiar to me. Are you thinking of skill points maybe?

No, they specifically mentioned the points gained from Entropy (infinite salvaging). It is very easy to just buy low cost white gear and crude kits, and just salvage your way to a high amount of points. One guy did it to 20k points. To prevent abuse these infinite achievements would need to be capped off at a certain realistic point.

Normal points accrued through unique achievements are 100% safe.

Ahhh, I get ya. I don’t make enough in drops to do that kind of salvaging.
