I see increasingly achievement points are being used as a filter to groups especially via the site gw2lfg
For example just now looking at it i see a ‘LF4M 3.5k+ Don’t bother if you have less’
‘LFG have 4k achievement points’

Now my problem is this. I played this game alot before the fractal patch took a several month break. Before then i had done alot of achievements and ingame things including:
100% completion on a char
Most dungeon paths completed included several orr.
All jumping puzzles
Rank 20+ in pvp with multiple tourny wins.

However when i returned i was sitting at 2.6k points simply down to missed dailies and monthly and how much points they give.
Now im treated like a beginner in groups because im supposed to be at 4.5k-5k achievement points. When all these achievement points are daily logins… Such a fail system to use to judge player ability.

The current system makes no sense especially as it is displayed on your character in parties people are using it as a sole judge of you being worth bringing or not. I was considering convincing some friends to return to the game but they will also encounter the same problem many are less than 2k despite doing harder dungeons back then, we are organised good players with correct gear/knowledge but didn’t login to do meaningless dailys..

Shouldn’t the current system just not include the daily/monthly if the community is going to use it like this. It also makes some of the lengthy achievements completely ‘pointless’ such as getting 5k kills with a shield.

Wow. The community on your server must be really rotten. I’ve not seen achievement points one single time in a grouping request.
Especially, since that’s a totally nonsensical parameter that does neither say anything about your equipment/build or experience with the dungeon in question.

This is why everyone is so very ignorant. OMG GW2 has no gear climb finally no elitist’s!!!

And I said this at launch I will say it again, gear increase or everyone the same, dps meters or no dps meters. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO player’s will find a way to exclude other players. Fine no tier gear for progression np if your not xxx class, or dont have xxx points, or dont have xxx title dont apply.

Players create gated content, games dont. Players create elitist groups, games dont.

That is all.

Furthermore this isn’t a common thing, I have yet to see this issue. So why come to the forums and make a huge ruckus over something that probably happened one or two times and probably from the same people. Again people seem to think that if someone puts up a group asking for only warriors that it some how effect them….. JUST DONT GROUP WITH THEM AND JOIN ONE OF THE OTHER THOUSANDS OF GROUPS kitten

So you see a rotten fruit in a tree, and asks for changes in the tree so it’s fruits don’t rot anymore?

I think it’s much easier to just trash away the rotten fruits.

Also, there’s plenty of good fruits around, why are you worrying about the rotten ones?

Achievement points being used to exclude people from doing content will never catch on. There may be a few trying to make it into a thing. But there is no way to know how a person got their achievement points. And people doing that most likely won’t get many people responding to them when there are other people on gw2lfg and in game that aren’t asking for achievement points.

I’m so happy those players are doing that, it let’s me know exactly which groups to avoid. Seriously you want to run with that type of player? And why not just start a group yourself, “noobs welcome”. I’ve never started a group on gw2lfg that didn’t fill in less than two minutes.

I don’t see achievement points as something to judge a players skill on. I see it more as some people just have more time then others.

First, I have never personally seen this happen.

Second, don’t blame the system, blame the people using the system this way. As a community, we have the responsibility of keeping others in check. Which means, instead of asking Anet to change this system, we need to discourage people from using the system this way. How to do it? By making it meaningless. Disregard the 4k+ warnings, and join them no matter how many achievement points you have. If enough people do this, they will eventually realize it is a futile effort. Further, once they realize that achievement points have absolutely nothing to do with player skill in dungeons, that should reduce this as well.

So yeah, like the poster above said, don’t ask for the tree to be changed because of one rotten fruit. Eliminate the rotten fruit instead.

I’d personally like to have the ability to hide how many achievement points I have. I’ve got nearly 5.3k but realize they mean dick all when it comes to who I’d want in my party. Personally I think it adds an unnecessarily competitive aspect to the game that we could just as well do without. Make them private or something so that it’s just for fun. As with any accumulated numbers, players will always look for a way to make them a tool of exclusion, no matter how illogical it is. -_-

This will pass once players realize that anyone can get endless achievement points by simply standing in LA and salvaging T1 mats. Just because a player has 5k achievement points doesn’t mean he’s some sort of dungeon god…he may have simply used a kittenload of basic salvaging kits!

Sorry to anyone that feels I spilled the beans here.

Those who use AP to discriminate knew that, but even without a surefire way to lockout inexperienced or bad players, demanding a certain amount of AP weeds out those who aren’t dedicated enough to try and cheat their way into higher ranks via the way you described. It was the same in GW1 with certain tokens.

The more demand there is for a certain kind of player(i.e. high level fractals party member), the more exclusive your demands can be to minimize the risk of ending up with a baddie/noob.

That’s the nature of the beast.

The only reason it’s being used as a judgement scale is because it’s usually pretty accurate. People below 1000 will usually mess up the group, and people with 4-5k usually know what to do, what tricks there are in dungeons, have good gear, etc.

There’s always the exception (you), but it’s not the rule.

I don’t make groups requiring a certain achieve points, but sometimes I scroll over the names and see a guy with 654 achieve points and think to myself: “Oh god, I hope he’s not gonna mess us up”.

I personally wish that the dailies didn’t give so many points. It skews the whole system and cheapens the accomplishment of the achievements. Like you get 5 points per tier of killing dolyaks in WvW, which would (in it’s current state) take years to max. While dailies each give you 25 points.

They shouldn’t be called achievement points at all, but rather “log in daily points”.

Toons: Foreseer, Geikamir, Rapscallion, Specimen, Scythian, Zeau, Ärtifact, and Replica.

I did a fractal. Level 28. Noticed the warrior had 900 achievement points.

I thought it was odd.

Sure enough. Multiple Multiple deaths. Lost like he had never done a fractal before. And Instagibbed by agony.

Sure enough, was first time in the dungeon.

Achievement points aren’t the end all be all, but they can indeed be a measure of your abilities to a point.

The idea of using achievement points as a measure of worth is based on the belief that having great number of points supposedly means you’ve played the game a lot. Having played a lot, the player knows mechanics of the game and the dungeon run is going to progress smoother.

There are several reasons why this idea doesn’t work. Firstly the person who has high number of points is likely making and playing alternative characters. The player may not be any better at playing that character than someone with fewer points and only one character.

Secondly achievement points are given for very trivial tasks. Most of the points come from daily quests, which you can complete by running around in beginner areas of the game. Dungeon content is probably the most difficult in the game and here too experience of that particular dungeon is worth much more than the meager 40 achievement points it gives.

I have completed some of the hardest dungeons while wearing level 80 masterwork gear bought cheaply from trading post and with character class (Ranger) that is supposedly useless from what I read from threads on this forum. The game really isn’t hard enough to warrant excluding players from groups.

Achievement points are worthless, there was exploits which allowed some players to exceed 10k – 20k points, even then you have Entropy which is infinite. I don’t think there has really been that many games which have a very good system that shows how good the player is. Even in WoW’s gearscores wasn’t a good system, it just ment they was in a good raid guild.

GW2 has many great players, many of which are pretty much in average looking gear, you can’t tell how good they are until you actually clear content with them and build up trusts and bonds.

Wow, what a cesspool. People really use this site to find groups? Seems only good for zerk warriors (whatever those are) or mes.

Best I saw was for AC, which is what, lvl 35? They wanted 80’s only, no noobs because they were leveling an alt.

And everyone has to link gears!!

I’m glad I have a guild I go with. I’ve never been in a dungeon that wasn’t a guild group and by looking at that site, I think I’m glad.

What a sad state if that is the only option someone who is guildless has.

Some people actually enjoy pugging and gw2lfg.
I do guild runs too but they’re really not as diverse; PuGs always make up the funniest stuff and find the weirdest bugs to exploit… plus you get to know new people and sometimes make new gaming friends.
I think you’re missing out on a lot of stuff if you avoid pugging at all and close yourself into a limited circle.
