Achievement reward chests need to be boosted
The achievement rewards have been lackluster since they removed the PVP skins from them. They could definitely use a boost in awesomeness , in my opinion.
I’m about to get my 24.5k and I’m only getting 1 laurel, so enjoy your extra laurel
The idea behind the AP chests is to offer something, not to be an additional incentive to grind away AP. Originally, the rewards were quite meaty. With the new daily rewards, they now feel lackluster, even though they didn’t change at all.
I got my 22,500 AP chest recently. What did I get….
5 laurels, 5 gold, % for XP, magic find and gold find, Karma, mystic forge stones, WvW blueprints, box of fun, 3 random boosters, and 3 gems store items that I don’t remember what they were.
It’s nice and all, but each chest is pretty much a repeat of the chest before. Not much excitement and the rigid schedule on the 2 sets of armor skins means it will take years to get both sets.
Oh well, I do have most of the zenith skins. Just 4 more to go. At this rate, I’ll have them all in another year.

I think the concept is nice, its just that the rewards need to be updated.
I’d like to see some new things added, just to freshen it up a bit.

This. Why not offer a set of random skins in the chest? Could be RNG hits and you don’t get anything new (or what you get is basic starter gear type armor you could easily buy for copper) … could be you get a Lightward staff … I loved the chests when I got the PvP skins even when I wasn’t able to use them much because I don’t PvP (then the activities came in and I was able to look better while doing those). Now that the wardrobe is universal this would be amazing.
Of course leave legendaries off the loot table, maybe also leave off skins that need to be crafted to acquire, but if they can drop, they’d be a lovely addition to the chests.
I do miss the random pvp skins you used to get with the AP chests. Everything else we get is nice too, I just miss getting random skins I might not have.

maybe a black lion key or 2 on the bigger chests.
it would be nice to have a few skins only available for the achievement chests.
glider skins, ascended items .. make it a worthwhile goal to accomplish.
I am 100% on board with revamping the achievement chests. Ever since the pvp skins were taken out they feel extremely lack luster. I am not sure what would be a good thing to put in with them.
Some ideas that come to mind (even though I am sure there will be push back heavily on this) is:
1. random mini in 1k chests or even just the 5k
2. weapon skin from the treasure hunter achievement every 5k
3. boosters
4. bring back random skins!
5. T6 mats (I don’t want this but its better than nothing.. or karma that you can get quickly)
Also and yes this is a bit selfish..if you do revamp them. some retro rewards would be kinda nice.. I know it wouldn’t be easy since there are account bonuses etc but yeah haha

At the 30,500 AP chest. The 5K marks are solid rewards. They need something else other than the gold u get from a daily, booster, jug of karma, and 5 mystic forge stones for the in-between ones.

Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll ever see an update to the AP rewards. You have to remember that if they were to change up the reward structure and start offering additional items to players who reach certain goals, they would have to also give out these rewards to every player who has already long since earned that amount of AP. Even if the reward was account bound skins, as soon as this update hit there would be a huge spike in the number of players who would have these skins, and there would likely be a negative effect on the economy (as those players would no longer have to pursue the materials or other currency to acquire them).
Black Lion Keys would almost certainly never happen. Imagine how many players have over 5k or 10k AP. Most big rewards are done at the 5k mark, and some players have over 25k AP (possibly more? I’m not sure what the highest AP holders are at these days), so there would likely be thousands of BL keys immediately added to circulation. All the drops from those free keys would then be either used or sold on TP (if possible) and this would affect the economy in ways that you can probably imagine.
That said, I do agree that the AP rewards are a bit lackluster and would love to see some updates. I do like the big 5k chests and I personally feel that those rewards are decent, but some of the other stuff you get at different tiers can be pretty uninspiring when you realize you’ll get more from completing your dailies.

It would be nice if Achievement Reward Chests were something to look forward to, again, like they were before the change (barring the 5,000-point chests). I used to try to get AP, because I wanted to earn the Chests. Now, it’s kind of…meh.
The PvP skins were great. I liked them a lot to fill my Wardrobe. I wish the Magic Find percentage impact would be a lot bigger compared to salvaging & using up essences. I think my MF bonus makes up 10% of my total.
That thing is something they could boost up without problems of missed out / retroactive rewards issues.

If they give us an ascended material for end of the month login bonus then achievement chests should give us weapons or armor at 5K milestones or so.
And up the gold and laurel rewards. 2k gold for my 8K AP was laughable and sad, this is same our daily bonus now. And it took me 3 years to get these AP so it felt extremely unrewarding and lackluster getting this.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been against the cap — if people at the top of the leaderboards are burning out trying to stay ahead, they can stop trying to stay ahead. If ANet wants us to get the majority of AP from something other than dailies, they can increase the AP given for non-daily chieves.
All the same, I don’t think the cap should be arbitrarily removed without a compelling reason as to how that would improve the game for the community.
Achievement Chests were introduced in June-July of 2013 if I recall correctly. Since then so many things got added to the game and rewards have been increased. This system should get a similar overhaul than what we saw in our daily reward, since the achievement rewards are actually less than they were when PvP skins were a thing.
The daily reward & login reward is more on par with the lesser achievement rewards and take substantial less effort to earn. I think it deserves some balance.
Everyday you can earn the following from logging in and doing daily achievements.
- 2 gold
- Spirit shards.
- Daily Log in reward. Includes Laurels, Mystic Coins, Celebration Booster, Tomes, and a 2% gold find increase at the end of the track with some nice reward choices.
- At the minimum of 3 daily reward chests from completing the daily. Includes many things like crafting materials, 20 min exp boosters, reward potions, ect.
Now Lets compare that of regular and large achievement chest rewards past the 5000k AP threshold for the sake of accounting for the best scenarios.
For the 500 mark achievement chests.
- 2 gold
- 1% Account Increase
- 1 Laurel
- 100 Badges of Honor
- 6,750 Karma
- Siege Weapon Blueprint
- Random Booster
- Random Black Lion Item
For the 1000 mark achievement chests.
- 2 gold
- 1% Account Increase
- 2 Laurel
- 200 Badges of Honor
- 10 Mystic forge Stones
- 13,500 Karma
- Siege Weapon Blueprint
- Random Booster
- Random Black Lion Item
I could go on about the heavy and massive but you get the picture and really the rewards on these milestones are substantial and would only need a small tweak if anything.
Obviously, for the amount of effort it takes to continuously complete the daily/log in rewards and the amount of effort it is to continuously gather AP, one can conclude that the rewards are obviously skewed. As the daily and the log in rewards are recently new overhauls. The Achievement point has only seen rewards removed from it since it was implemented in 2013.
I think these chests can have there rewards updated and would be a perfect opportunity to correct market imbalances, give people motivation to play the game beyond logging in every day, and provide alternative avenues for players to reach material goals that are lacking in acquisition methods.
We already know that a system is in place to distribute rewards for players that have already achieve progress on this track. It can be done like it was before when only one chest was given out over set periods of time as to not shock the market.
I hope Anet sees this and agrees that these rewards need to be revamped to bring them up to par to what the 2016 reward systems look like.

I think based on the comments here most people are in agreement that the rewards need some type of update. I think what the update is too is very debatable and all have their merits and potential issues.
Just to call out a few the black lion key’s and fear of flooding it is no different than when they put keys in reward tracks.
For people who have already past chests they can retro reward players… that is how they gave out the chests the first time anyhow.
Overall I think the best suggestions were: more gold at rewards, keys, bring back random skin give aways. ( I am still hoping that every 5k you get a treasure chest weapon reward (make it acc bound and w.e. its fine)

I’d take 2K Gold in any of my Achievement Chests. Lol.
