Achievements
AP hunters do every AP category they can. If new content comes out with achievements attached, they complete them all.
There aren’t really any tips or tricks other than to just do all the achievements you can. The slayer and weapon master achievements are good to do together, to save some time.
Not sure why ypu think the game is broken from this, nothing is broken here at all, people have just worked hard or committted a bit of time to the sheer wealth of AP on offer.
Have you worked on your living story achievements?
Have you collected mini pets or cultural armour?
Are you salvaging everything for the Entropy ap?
Have you worked towards the Silverwastes and Dry Top achievements?
Have you worked towards the boss achievements and also Teq and Wurm?
Have you mastered all your weapons?
Have you worked towards the EOTM achievements?
Have you killed 1000 of each type of enemy, or at least most?
Do you work towards maxing the ap gain in festivals?
Have you maxed out crafting professions?
Have you explored every bit of zone?
Have you done the jumping puzzles?
These are just a few of the things to be working towards. Some are very easy, some are long term gains, but nothing is broken or unachievable (except the season 1 ap). Set yourself goals, use the ap tracker and start working on those.
Aside from dailies, most of the AP that high AP people earned came from living story Season 1 achivements.
Dailies also gave more AP in the past.

I don’t remember a time when you could ever get more than 10 AP for dailies.
The living stories are a huge part of it and lots of new players are going to miss out on tons of AP because of this. In my opinion no content or skin should ever be removed from the game because otherwise people can complete 90% of the general achievements (minus the WvW and some PvP ones) in a relatively short amount of time and run out of ways to catch up to other players.
One tip I can give you is to play activities though, there are a lot of APs tied to those and many people don’t even know they exist. I just wish keg brawl wasn’t limited to the weekend because I missed out on the early keg brawl AP farm.
People that have 24k+ AP have basically done every achievement since launch.
That means doing every single LS achievement and every single daily there was available (when 1AP was awarded for each daily task you completed).
Right now, in-game, there’s hugely fewer available AP to obtain than the possible total, simply because each LS chapter often had a total of 50-100 AP available.
Perhaps if A-net re-release LS1 as chapters, they’ll bring back the achievements too, so new players can enjoy the story and people who missed out on the AP can have a go.
The shear dedication… 24,000, yes you!
:D
If you’re not playing from the start you can forget ever catching up as there are plenty of achivs impossible to obtain. The history from before LS2 can’t be obtained anymore and all those together could easily account for 5-6k AP.
Dailies you can catch up as die hards will be bumping on the 15k cap pretty soon. (As to dailies being more than 10, there were a month or 2/3 where dailies gave 5 a piece and 5 existed every day).
Although there were more dailies before they also took 10x times longer to obtain then they do now. You can get your daily 10 AP in one PvP match now. With WvW achievements as they are now nobody will ever max out their AP but it really does slow down after a point. I was running out of things and resorted to farming my offhand weapon kill achievements!

When the game first came out, you had to do all the dailies, and the total was 13 points per day.
There was a brief time when dailies gave 5 points per daily (for 25 points per day).
After that, was the choice of a wide variety of dailies at 1 point per daily, and doing them all would grant IIRC 12 points per day.
