Guild Wars 2

I got some of my friends to play Gw2 lately and I figured out they are all not so happy about the start of the personal story.
The point is that, like me and other old players I think, they can’t feel the connection to the Destiny’s Edge that I think is needed to enjoy more the dungeons stories and the end game.
We discussed it a bit and we think that just a mission or 2d animation at the start of the game would be of great help to introduce the player to the Destiny’s Edge story.
We thought of something epic with a strong emotional side.
When you select your race and gender, a cinematic(3d with a standard child as yourself or a 2d animation) starts where you are in Lion’s Arch as a child and you see the Destiny’s Edge parade through the city going for the battle against Kralkatorrik. You hear people cheering and you hear your thought about how high you think of them and that in the future you want to be like them. This would work to create the first connection with the Destiny’s Edge, then you play as one of the Destini’s Edge characters based on your race in the battle against Kalkatorrik, or just before of right after, you can see Glint and Snaff die maybe and you feel the emotions of the different characters about what’s happening.
After this you can create your character and start your journey already knowing clearly what those people are.

I was so sad when I heard some of my friends saying..“ah ok so Logan is left behind here…who cares” in the Arah mission. Or “so this Glint why was she so important? Was she a human?”.

Other than the problem that sometimes people don’t get thins that are presented in front of their eyes… I would still like to have all the important content explained in the personal story and not having to read a book or find informations on the wiki about who these Destiny’s Edge people are.

Anyone else thinks the same?

IIRC, you don’t even really learn about Destiny’s Edge until you’re at the level 30 step, or thereabouts – you develop a connection to whatever member belongs to your character’s race, but I don’t think you’re even told about destinies edge until you meet them. Putting it at the start of your personal story therefore wouldn’t make much sense.

Perhaps if something of the sort was included in the mission where your racial mentor meets up with the other members, right before you meet your order mentor, that would be more appropriate.

Yup, maybe it’s better but still I don’t think that the introduction that we currently have is enough to create a connection.

Imho, we get all the important bits throughout the game. Be it through interaction with DE themselves or from Npcs talking. Not right from the bat ofc, but it’s still there.

I agree. Until I’d finished the LW2 episode in Glint’s lair I was somehow convinced that she was a dwarf.

While we do not meet DE until chapter 30 if we were living in Tyria you would have some general knowledge about it. Think of it that you probably have not met Obama but you most likely know the US has a president. They do not need to be interactive, just a cutscene somewhere would do to give you a world orientation on DE and some other topics.

They are meant to go and find the novels.
