Dear Devs and anyone who would like to add to this idea,

I have a suggestion that would add some immersion to GW2:

Whenever you enter a portal to go to another area of the map or even the Heart of the Mists or WvWvW, instead of having a loading screen with artwork, there should be a video of going through a wormhole like in Star Gate SG-1 TV series.

In order to avoid adding extra time between areas, the video should already be on the computer, so it doesn’t take up bandwidth, runs quicker, and of course, adds more of an immersive feel to the game.

There is a lot of room for creativity here. Different colors for different wormholes for different areas of the map. The wormhole should twist and turn and have lots of special effects. Again, if this is a pre-downloaded video, then no worries with bandwidth or added loading screen time.

If you really wanna go all out, why not make it a mini game and the player has to fly though the wormhole dodging particles and magical effects…maybe if done successfully that player gets karma or gold or some achievement. Just a thought…

i support this..

would just be more fun to see the permanent loading screens and absoliutely would be more immersive, ig you see how your character vaporized when going through the Asura Gate and re-materializes when appearign at the other end of the wurmhole letting the wurmhole animation blend over into showing you the in the meantime loaded map and showing you the reappearance animation then how you appear at the other end of the gate.

Asura gates were just by looking at them greatly inspired by Stargate and it would be imo very awesome, if the whole animation process would get improved also to look and work also alot more like using Stargeats, that you also have to set up some kind of destination point coordinates to program the Asura Gate for the traveling.

I think also the Asura Gates would look more awesome, if their wurmholes would also be blue, like that of the stargate and not in that ugly magenta like pink.

Would like to see a comparison, if there would be someone here that is skilled with photoshop and animations to make a comparsion between a pinkish and a bluish looking Asura Gate animation

I think this should be a very nice little inspiration :

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

The wiki already has it listed that the design for the Asura gates was heavily influenced by the Stargate series. I would love to see a jump animation/movie that would play when you used one.

I thought TERA did a wonderful job with this, just look at it, the way they handled it was epic.

I didn’t like that at all in TERA personally. :x It took forever and annoyed my eyes. I’d always alt-tab till it was done. If GW did something like this I’d hope it’d be much less bright and annoying looking and only if it didn’t interfere with actual loading-into-new-zone times.

This ones a lot more pleasant looking, at least till the red.

This idea reminds me of Asheron’s Call, my first MMO love.

I happen to like the art on the screens. Plus anything spinning in my vision — ceiling fans, orbs revolving around characters, even flicking Charr tails — tends to give me motion sickness as my eyes jitter to follow. I’d hate for every zone transfer to make me ill.
