I have sword “cobalt” with two slots, one empty.

I’m trying to add a “moonstone orb” but it does not let me.

What could I be doing wrong?

What level is the sword? Is it level 80 or a lower level transmuted sword?

cause a jewel is considered a replacement for a rune? and you are placing it in a sigil slot?

Cobalt is a names lvl 80 Exotic greatsword, when it is transmuted it can only accept sigils of it’s level or lower (minor = lvl 0 min, major = lvl 39 min, exotic = lvl 60 min.

don’t think you can use it for armor or weapons, just accessories

try another sigil instead or check to see if it has off vs def stats..may work for armor but not weapon

You can use orbs in armor. Back at launch, ruby orbs in exotic armor was the cheap berserker meta. I’m pretty sure you can use orbs in weapons. Wiki says you can, it says any level 80 equipment, and I seem to recall doing it a long time ago.

You can use orbs in armor. Back at launch, ruby orbs in exotic armor was the cheap berserker meta. I’m pretty sure you can use orbs in weapons. Wiki says you can, it says any level 80 equipment, and I seem to recall doing it a long time ago.

yeah, i think you are right, i may be thinking jewel vs gem? don’t know the exact terms since i don’t use them (wvw infusion rather).
But i think some are offensive vs defensive right?

As expected, I can add a moonstone orb to armor, trinkets, and weapons — including Cobalt.

Can you walk us step by step through what you are doing? You should be able to add the orb to cobalt.

In general

• Universal upgrades can be applied to weapons, armors, or even trinkets. These include things like crests, doubloons, and yes, “orbs”.
• Runes can only be applied to armor, sigils only to weapons, and upgraded gems (e.g. embellished).

In all cases, the item itself must be greater than or equal to the ‘level’ of the upgrade, regardless of character level.

Of course, due to ANet Consistency™, there are exceptions, but neither Cobalt nor Moonstone Orb are among them.

I go to hero equipment.

I see the sword and the moonstone orb.

I double click on the moonstone orb but the sword turns “red” and it does not let me.

Could it be one of the slots has a moonstone already. I cannot use the same type of stone in both slots?

Offensive/defensive slots is ascended only, and those slots only take infusions. The rest of the slots will take gems or runes/sigils.

Maybe that’s his problem. Maybe he has an ascended weapon and is trying to put an orb in an infusion slot.

I put a different gem. Now the sword has a moonstone and a ebony orb.

It seems you can’t put two of the same. Weird
