Alright so I was playing the new/old Halloween content yesterday and tried out the Mad King’s Clock Tower jumping puzzle for the first time and I really enjoyed it. I managed to complete it with a fair amount of effort but the satisfaction from eventually completing it was just amazing (kinda like beating a boss in Dark Souls).
It actually seems like a pretty easy jumping puzzle but what makes it quite difficult is the fact that you are rushed for time to complete it. If you take too long, you’ll get swallowed by that green abyss below.

Anyway, after finishing it, I got an idea. What if, you could do something similar with all the jumping puzzles in Tyria? What if you had the option to do a jumping puzzle like normal, but you also have the option to do it in a specific time? (Heroic mode)

So how I think this could work is by putting an NPC at the beginning of every jumping puzzle which you can talk to in order to activate the time limit (This would also help with showing you where the jumping puzzle starts which would be cool). Again, this is just an option so some people don’t have to do it in “Heroic Mode”. But if you do decide to do it, the rewards in the chest would be greater or it may increase the probability of a rare item drop (according to the puzzle difficulty, area and your level of course). If you manage to do all the Jumping Puzzles in “Heroic Mode”, then you can get a new (better) Title. I know some people may find jumping puzzles difficult already, but i think this would be an awesome feature for those who enjoy them and are really good.
What you guys think and how do I get this idea to the Guild Wars people who would be able to put this forward? (I really think this is a cool idea).

Then Secondly I just want to add (maybe I should make a new thread), the Arena with Liadri and all those other bosses in the Crown Pavilian.
I really really enjoyed fighting all the different bosses and was really sad when it was removed. I would really like it back permanently and here’s why:

For the first and only time in the game so far, I was actually forced to read the traits and abilities of my character (I’m a guardian), in order to beat some of the bosses in the arena. It was where I learned about what stats help the most in certain situations and what weapon abilities would also benefit me the most. I actually felt like I really had to use some skill and ability to beat them instead of just stacking and standing in one spot and just spamming every ability available (most dungeons these days). It was also great because it relied on my skill alone, not a group.

Anyway what I’m trying to say is, when you make a new character and get him/her to level 80, I find that the best way to learn about what your traits and abilities actually do, is in the arena. It makes you a better player and it tests your skill. I also came out of it, knowing a hell of a lot more about my character.

(Of course there were some guys who just pwned because they were ascended but I mean, as a new level 80 character I think it would be great. Anyway these are my thoughts and ideas, what you think?)

There are more timed jps in this game. Skipping stones in Southsun Cove comes to mind, as well as a few others that have timed elements (although sometimes with different challenges than just “race to finish”).

Personally I think just slapping a time limit on existing jps won’t work well in many cases. Several of them require fighting random spawns, which doesn’t mesh well with time limit. I surely would enjoy more different kinds of jps, including time-limited ones (even though I suck at those ), but I’d rather have a few that are designed to have a clear, unique challenge (like Griffonrook Run which has a different kind of timed challenge), than a generic “hardmode” thrown at every jp regardless of the mechanics designed into that jp.

I also don’t like the idea of advertising the start of a jp by placing a unique npc there. Most of the JPs are hidden and a kind of reward for exploration by their existance alone, advertising them would be to much like handholding in my opinion. Hide some kind of hidden trigger near the start to activate an extra challenge/reward in the jp (which is already done in the above mentioned Griffonrook Run … just do the jp for the achievement, or do it while carrying the bomb for the extra chest reward at the end) and I’m sold, but again, I don’t think it would work well if something like this would be generically slapped onto each of the existing jps.

There have been numerous discussions about the Crown Pavilion and other seasonal content on this forum already, and it looks like ANet has a clear stance on activating those every now and then, but not keep them in-game permanently. SAB tribulation mode is another challenge that comes to mind, even though it takes a whole different set of skills to get through that one. In the end it’s all solo challenges though, and the direction of the game for permanent content seems to go towards group challenges, not solo challenges.

By the way, the difference between gear tiers in this game is not nearly as large as you seem to assume. Most people that facerolled Liadri and her friends did so because they simply are really good at this game, and probably would’ve done almost as well in all greens. Different gear tiers don’t make up for lack of skill here, unlike a lot of similar games.

Sweet thanks for the response, obvious;y these are just ideas that I have that seem cool in my head lol. But I do get what you’re saying and it does make sense. I do prefer a secret switch instead of an NPC (cool idea).

Maybe they can add the time limit to specific jumping puzzles not all, I just think it would be cool if maybe they added the time limit to more. I know which JP you are talking about and I do like those as well (cause it is different to your usual JP). I guess i just really enjoyed the clock tower and would really like to see more Jp like that.

As for the Crown Pavilian. My friend and I watched several players (mainly warriors though), just eat through the life of some bosses. It was crazy, match would last like 10seconds max. Maybe warriors are just OP. But for Liadri you obviously have to get to phase 2 before you can do anything. But thanks for the response, appreciate it
