The drop rate was changed back to the normal drop rates when the game came out, they changed them back to the massively nerfed amount they changed it to before.

The previous patch had increased the drop rate of some items in Orr:

  • The item “Heavy Moldy Bag” has been updated to drop more frequently.
  • Various Risen creatures have had their loot tables updated to provide more varied crafting materials.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two of those changes had just been reverted.

Expect to get the most disparaging remarks to your question, though. This is, after all, the community that each week makes a topic claiming that the drop rate of ectos has been nerfed, since in the previous week it was working fine but in the next week it had been significantly reduced.

I’m imagining they nerfed the drop rate because I’ve heard people were getting 150+ bags an hour. This can only mean a good thing in keeping T6 material prices stable.

Anyone know of other changes this meant?

It probably had a bigger impact in the economy than expected. Must have increased the supply of items meant to be rare by too much.

I have also been noticing less rares (I didn’t have any DR with the initial patch), but can’t confirm

I’ve not seen much of a difference actually. If they did a nerf on the bags it was a subtle one. I was there for half an hour tonight post patch and although I never got one rare (one a day if I’m lucky), I did get a pair of greens, 3 blues, 6 or so whites, couple salvageable, and yes a few bags. These were gotten during an event and are compatible to what I got pre-patch.

Heavy Moldy bag drops have been really high for me. Getting at least 10 during any DE that requires waves, ie. Defending Jorfast. Outside of bag crafting materials seems about moderate as well. Still decent amount of bones. The drops out of the bags have been pretty hearty imo. Lots of Gossamer and powerful blood.

Greens have been about the same. Got one yellow in the past two days. Lots of blues.

Overall, it seems better so far to me. But its only been two days. I could just be really lucky. Combined with I think the DEs go off more often so the drop rate chances increase.

Grind Wars 2: The lack of transparency chronicles.

Remember, it has no grind! Level 80 full exotic players should be poor and it should take months and months to buy any top tier item in the game. There should be gating on the alternate methods to make sure we can’t do that too fast regardless of how much effort we put into it too.

That was in their mission statement, remember? Oh wait thats incorrect? They advertised something different? Oops.

I was going to leave yesterday, but the drop rate in Orr was increased to an acceptable level.
Now its been nerfed harder than before!

Thats FANTASTIC.

So,
1. Grinding in lower level areas takes longer because of dynamic scaling adjustment.
2. Grinding in Orr takes longer because the drops are nerfed harder than before.
3. Grinding in dungeons and fractals takes longer due to the costs and the fact they nerfed some of the paths that were nice.
4. Grinding chests from bosses and such takes as long as it always did, forever. Not surprising considering the chests always had horrible drops.

Grind Wars 2.

At least you don’t have to be treated this way, there are other games around.

I hope you didn’t spend time grinding out something. That must be really frustrating?

My guess is they just went overboard with the first adjustments. I don’t think it’s any secret that Anet does minimum (any?) testing before releasing a patch or change. They probably released it, monitored how prices were dropping and how many people were getting these items, and “re-adjusted” (as in scaled back) the drop rates.

What they aren’t considering is that after the huge patch, of course everybody is going to immediately jump on the action (Orr got better! Sweet, everybody zerg there!) but after a couple of weeks people will go back to what they normally do (WvW, fractals, dungeons, farm, etc.)

I’m still a big fan of the game, update, and Anet as a whole. I just think they could use a lot of help/time in the testing department.

RIP in peace Robert

This^^

I know the night of the patch I got about 75 heavy moldy bags from a very broken DE in Orr, where you could cause the event to go on forever by just killing all the mobs that spawned. I am pretty sure that event was working as intended but there were so many ppl doing it that it was possible to go on forever. I also got about 10 rares that night from just running around killing mobs.

Moldy bag seems to be the same? Are you kidding me? Maybe if you’re killing non-DE mobs, sure, but anyone who has spent time in Cursed Shore farming events knows that moldy bags have at least doubled in drop rate.

Ive done my daily farming in cursed shore. After the adjustment have observed that the moldy bag drop rate has been nerfed slightly, along with a slight decrease in T6 mats. The drop rates are still better from pre patch.

Those who are complaining over this seem to have no understanding why extremely high drops are bad for them and everyone else

I find the adjustments fair because the moldy bags were almost a guaranteed drop post patch. Leaving them as is would harm the game economy a lot

Ok i was very interested in coming back to GW2 after i stopped playing because of the drop rates introduced in November patch, but i see there is no will into making this game fun instead of just a grind job.

Such a grind based game only benefits bots, because they can profit before they are caught, and since i don’t like or endorse botting, nor i like the idea of a game where my maximum hope and excitement as player is the thrill of dropping a crafting material i do need, then i’ll continue staying away from the game, and spend my money happily elsewhere.

I’m displeased my post is negative, there is no flame or troll or hate making intent, but just my honest feedback.

Have fun with the bots, to next patch hopefully, sincerely

You are NOT allowing to grind in this game. I lived in Communist country for 10 years, now I can relate the similarity between GW2 and Communist’s rules.

I stay because the game is already paid. However, I will think twice, thrice when GW2 expansion coming out. Indeed, there are good games out there and there will be more good games in upcoming months (sorry no WoW)

You do know that you can sell T6 mats, right? If you don’t need them? And that you make a ton more money selling those T6 mats rather than hoping for a rare to drop?

I grind a lot in Cursed Shore, enough for me to make a ton of gold. So does that make me a bot?

What do you grind for? Who’s forcing you to do that? It’s your personal decision. No need to grind for keeping up, this isn’t WoW at all. Grinding for gold? If they increase the drop rates, the prices fall, which means less profit.

However, it shortens the time needed to obtain the items you need (not t6 mats but the things they create) as a whole regardless of if it drops the prices on the mats. We aren’t talking about a limited economy.

It also provides ability and incentive to gain the money reasonably through other means which had previously been a poor method.

Basically it improves your options.

So yes, the drop rates were fine as they were after the first patch.

I’m getting far more bags than previously and more mats in general. And, less rares. Glad to hear someone still sees rares. I’d actually like to see an exotic once in a while other than the very rare linked exotic I see in chat now. Adding reward to the game always goes a long way to creating a ‘sense’ of reward.

Last night a guildie and myself ran the 3 Orr events and then escorting the Dolyaks down to Jofast.

I got 2 rares, 24 Moldy Bags, 15 greens and about 20 blues, and a lot of T6-T5 mats.

My guildie got 1 exotic, 2 rares, not as many greens, about the same amount of blues, and not as any mats.

Essentially by the end of the run of events we both made a couple of gold. (We averaged 1 glob of ecto per rare and he sold the exotic straight up for 85 silver).

Before the patch it would takes us 3-4 runs of the events to equal this type of haul especially on the rares, and we had never had an exotic drop.

I would say they adjusted it some based on my experience.

I couldn’t agree more! I quit playing the game all together halfway through the tragic fail that was the winters-day event. Ive never had such a horrible time in an mmo with a holiday event as I did with winters-day. I started playing lotro and even re-activated my swtor account, I was so disappointed. This is not a troll just my opinion on my experience with the game as a whole. I honestly had high hopes but with RNG/DR, NO endgame and the fact that the game is a GRIND, and wasn’t supposed to be…..i.e. they lied……. yeah I’ll stay away until things change.

New drop rates were fine in my opinion. It was nice to actually see stuff drop I could use towards my legendary. I don’t like grinding for hours and hours to get 1 or 2 t6 crafting materials. It was nice to get a few after doing a couple pent/shelter farms though.

People say it messes with the economy, yes it did, it reduced the insanely overpriced materials, most of which are controlled by farmers or super rich that control most of the trading post. The change affected more players in a good way than in a negative way.

I actually had hope of being able to get my legendary without spending a thousand gold in the trading post to buy materials that never dropped. You know the whole point of farming the materials yourself to make the items? Instead, now we probably have the same drop rates as before along side diminishing returns leading to a never ending grind fest. Out of all the changes made this patch, the “new” drop rates in Orr were my favorite change. Not because I could finally get rich in game but because I might actually feel like my time put into grinding was actually being rewarded.

Another let down, starting to see a trend.
