Well, we all hoped for the rapier, as the nice pistol got implemented as well.

I can’t tell how disappointed I am that we don’t see the rapier but more chunky and utterly ugly weapons. Usually I don’t tend to QQ but this is really kitteningly sad.

That’s because the Aetherblade weapons are the pretty ones we saw from the reddit links. The Aetherized weapons are clunky and in appealing because they’ve got a fairly high drop rate.

I’d only want a rapier if my character animations were fencing-like. Otherwise it would be weird.

The pistol also was among the ones we saw earlier as was the scepter (?), so why no rapier. I don’t get the logic. :/

Anet, please fire whoever made the decision to put that kitten sword in in place of the rapier. Seriously.

I just went from planning on playing a LOT in an attempt to get the rapier, to having no interest whatsoever in these items.

Please reconsider adding the rapier Anet. Many people want to throw money at you for the rapier.

These weapons are very nice (the pistol especially and the staff is radical too) but please add the rapier also.

I was going to fight tooth and nail to get a rapier, but then it ended up not being a member of this weapon set. Now I doubt I’ll try to get any of them at all.

Now I’m starting to see why ANet may have opted to not impliment the rapier… It would be the next Shattered Wings.

Well, these are well done, no doubt about it, but this style is not something I’d use on any of my characters so I won’t be upset this time around if I don’t get one.

Yes a rapier would have been awesome, but to be honest it doesn’t fit with all the other mechanical weapons. Perhaps it was pulled and will appear at another time.

There is a distinct lack of melee weapons that have finesse in mind. That’s what people were looking for with the rapier. Mostly Thieves and Mesmers. Probably a good few Asura Rangers. Not to say other classes/players didn’t want one, but those that it fit the class theme for were really looking forward to it.

Hopefully it crops up later in the event.

You act as if they pulled a fast one on you by replacing the rapier with the current sword. You can’t replace something that was never offered / promised in the first place. You assumed, and you got let down, and now you’re being angsty on the forum!

Hello all! I don’t know what to say about this… Considering how I purchased keys to get the ticket scraps (lucked out and got a ticket and enough scraps for another), only to find the one weapon I actually wanted wasn’t there.

Yes, I know I should have checked before hand, but then why would they switch out what could be one of the coolest weapons in the game for a woodcutter. Why?!

It’s odd that it isn’t in there unless they have some other grand plan for a rapier as a new weapon. I say this because in one of the blog post stories they make mention of a “new and highly effective weapon used by the Aetherblades called a rapier”

I would love to see new weapons added to the game, especially a rapier (and a one-handed spear, so I can go all “Brad Pitt in Troy” on people).

I was going to farm a lot for that rapier as well. I was also bummed out when I saw that huge cannon for a rifle and it didn’t get added either, and that current rifle is just meh to me :/

I support this one. I liked the rapier skin, but felt it would look awkward with current sword animations. Most sword attacks in the game are slashing (with a little thrusting to mix things up), a rapier would not be too effective if used like that, and would probably break, as they are normally used with thrusting attacks.

But seriously, as mentioned by many, I’m kind of dissappointed at not seeing the rapier as well. Yes it was NEVER said it’d be in the game, but really, aren’t we getting tired of big fat stubby bladed weapons, greatsword included, that it is past time we get more and more elegant and finesse kind of weapon skins? I never really liked the… “Final fantasy style” swords and greatswords. Maybe we should rally and make massive protest thread against these kind of weapon styles, who knows a dev might take a hint?

additionally, Rifle design i dont mind the revolver style but the barrel is kinda too slim looking and id really haf gone more crazy if it was one of those rifles with a bayonet under the barrel

I was looking forward to getting the rapier on my ranger then i saw what the sword really looked like. Thats the last time i will believe a preview vid on youtube.

Arrrghhhhh! I’m glad they put in more weapons, but these look extremely terrible to me. Every single one besides the six shooter.

When the items were linked in LA chat during the dragon bash AR event, the only item talked about was the Rapier. It seemed no one liked the other items. Now we are here with Aetherized weapons and again, no one likes them it seems and we don’t get the one item many seemed to want. Aetherblade or Aetherized, it’s the same in my book.

So far with the gem store armor/weapons, BLC weapons and event items I’ve liked most of them overall. I thought the scelerite weapons were ugly. Now I think these weapons are ugly. On top of that…there is a plethora of terribly bad looking armor in the game.

Welp, glad there’s new skins, but I’m also equally disappointed in the lack of rapier action. Lame.

doesn’t matter how nice the pistol and rifle are modeled, the scaling is so huge they are just more junk

But thanks to previews, more lackluster content I can now just skip.

Actually I like this development!

In my eyes it points strongly towards the Rapier as the coming new weapon base for completely new skills.
Though I must admit these swords(1h &2h) do look exceptionally ugly unless there´s some animations involved. But even then it´s a hard sell.

You do realise the reason the rapier isn’t in the RNG box, is because they probably plan to sell it as a standalone weapon at some point in the near future? – Like Rox’s Bow. Imagine the kittenstorm if they’d added it to an RNG box with a low drop-rate. People would have flipped tables.

That’s my theory anyway, Im hoping it’s the case as I know someone I’d like to gift a rapier to if and when it comes up, but you can’t gift RNG tickets

Why do so many great swords and swords have blades 3 to 4 times wider than my characters’ arms? Maybe its an unwritten law, like the ones that say, “All male medium armor must be a long coat.” and “All but one female light armor legs must have skirts.”

Well, i still have the pistol, but after seeing the chuu chuu train design on the sword… i mean seriously, wtf?
If it would just unfold then it wouldnt be so bad, but it has this constant motion, that makes it just silly.
Note to designers. A moving blade like this only makes sense, if it is inside an enemys body. It is a cutting motion, thus it is used to cut through an enemy.
However, while swinging this is just wasted energy and looks silly…#

btw. for some reason some of my guildmates saw an adult toy in the greatsword…

I like the bows, pistol, rifle and axe.

Hammer would be great if it exploded every time it impacted something but I’m not into the looks though. It just looks like it should go boom.

well if they added rapier with current rng system >___< it would be a catastrophe.

I just hope they will make the rapier available for unlimited time in some more reasonable way.

it just makes no sense to pull it we already have a bunch of silly final fantasy-sized swords (even though two of the major sword users — thieves and mesmers — suit more subdued weapons).

it was a simple and very beautiful skin that perfectly filled a niche and it saddens me they pulled it.

Yeah. We can’t have anything but mang-anime-tai weapons. Huge kitten things that wouldn’t know elegance or understatement if it walked up to them and kittenslapped them with rings on. Those are the truly rare weapons. I almost peed myself in glee when Ebonblade dropped on me. My ranger loves her sword. Tired of all the swords being hugeass monstrosities. Or escapees from porn vids. I’m looking at you aetherized sword and Violator-san sklerite shell.
Reskinned that to the Wind Catcher skin. Effects colour matches the elementalist’s hair.

Hmmm… according to a dev (in-game, screenshots posted on reddit) the rapier is indeed coming in next patch, no new weapon type but probably new animations… and now we have the information on next patch, it says:

“Watchwork tech is the latest and greatest innovation in Tyria. Watchwork parts can be used in new crafting recipes or as currency in the Crown Pavilion to buy items like new rune and sigil recipes, Watchknight Tonics, or the new Sovereign Weapon Set. You might even find the recipe to assemble a Watchwork Portal Device, allowing you to create a personal portal!”

… might it be that the rapier is part of this set?.
