After 80
Dungeons are an easy way to gear up your character and gives you gold

You can always buy exotics from the trading post. Otherwise, you’ll get them as random drops. You could also craft them, but that’s more expensive than just buying them directly. One guaranteed way of getting your exotics is to run dungeons. Run a dungeon (other than fractals) 3 times and you’ll be able to afford one of the cheaper exotic parts. Run a dungeon 5 times and you’ll be able to afford the more expensive parts.
I wouldn’t try going for ascended weapons, but if you get one that matches your stats, all the better! There’s also ascended accessories and rings. Do fractals and at reward level 10 and above (even level fractals for the daily chest), you’ll get things that can be spent on the rings. Do dailies, and use some of your WvW tokens for your amulet. Do guild missions for your accessories.
Make sure you get a matching set of superior runes for your armor.
But really, you could get by with all greens (masterwork). I’d skip yellows (rares) entirely, and just salvage those for ectoplasm using the mystic forge salvage kit (look it up on the wiki if you don’t know how to make it.)
Thanks!Will try to do that!
Hello all,
My main has reached lvl 80, so now as i understand it i should focus on gearing it up. What are the available options(like farming, dungeon crawling, what locations should i focus on, etc). Any advice would be really helpful, because i’m not yet ready to start leveling alts.
You shall not gear!
Sorry, had to log in just to say that, Balrog, demon of the ancient world. This grind is beyond any of you.
Carry on.
*oh, about gear. Frostgorge champ farming is an excellent way to get the money for gear (10 hours will net you 50-150g, depending on your MF). WvW works too, as you can buy it for a reduced price w/ badges at the vendors there. There are also karma vendors in Orr (temple armor) which trade for exotics; however, as karma is rarer these days, this is option is less advisable.
Woah, 150g in 10 hours of farming? O_o

Count me in
With a healthy amount of MF. As in, omnoms(30) + birthday booster(100) + Luck(100) + Banner(10), et cetera. But yes, 15g per hour is typical at those levels. Happy farming.

Noted Also i’ve heard that the dungeons are uber hard, so another question – if i try them(for example Ascalonian Catacombs) with my group(80 lvl thief, 45 lvl thief, 70 lvl elementalist, 45 lvl Guardian, 45 lvl engineer, gear is mostly mw and rares), what is the chance of being torn apart(both in story & exploration modes)?
Two other ways to get exotic gear which haven’t been mentioned yet:
1) Buy it with karma from the temples in Orr. Karma isn’t as easy to get as it used to be but you might still have enough, when I got my first character to level 80 I realised I had enough karma saved up for 2 sets.
2) Get it in WvW using badges of honour. You normally get these from playing WvW, but you also get them in fairly large numbers from the achievement chests.

Thanks! How much karma are we talking about per set(average)?
252k karma / set (which isn’t all the much really)

Edit: Personally, I prefer to select and set my armor goals shortly after the birth of my character so I know what to work towards on my way to 80. I find it makes for less grind after the fact.

Eh…would be tough with that set-up. If everyone had the best possible gear for their respective level it would be much easier. Rare gear is cheap, urge them to buy the BiS for their level and you will be in a much better position. I’ve done AC with a full group of 35s, so it can be done.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

I’m the first person that normally says take lower levels with you (as long as they match the instance level requirement and gear of course), however if you’re not experienced with instance runs, or don’t like to spend hours in the instance itself, I would highly recommend that you look for a level 80 group (or form one on your own) that does the so called speed runs. It’s faster and you will get a feeling and understanding for the instance itself. If we look at your group concept above I sadly have to say, don’t even bother.
I’ve done Ascalon Catacombs with lower level groups and it wasn’t easy but it was definitely possible and didn’t take us hours either. I think maybe an hour an a half in total. It’s definitely easier with level 80s but it’s not impossible before then.
Also whilst I don’t entirely disagree with what Slurpey said I’d strongly recommend that if you join speed run groups with the intention of learning a dungeon you let the group know right at the start that’s what you’re doing. Many speed run groups expect people to already know not only the dungeon but all the specifics for doing a speed run, like where to stand during each boss fight, what can be skipped and how to do it, how to solve puzzles etc. without being told and will get frustrated if you don’t know. If you tell them you haven’t done it before then they’ll know to explain it as they’re going along.
