After almost a year, what should I expect?

Dear GW2 players,

I have just a simple question for those who have played the game on a regular basis.
So, I had to take a break from GW2 because of my final year at uni, but now I am finished and willing to start playing again (a few hours a day prolly) during the summer. The last time I played was during last year’s dragon bash festival. At that point I was trying to get a nice set for my thief for WvWvW and I remember about the introduction of ascended items.
So my question is: has the game changed a lot during all this time? I mean not just from the point of view of new maps/missions/titles, but also from the point of view of new mechanics or item categories.
Any links to external sources are welcomed (no viruses plz :P).
I am now downloading the game and can’t wait to start playing.

Cheers

And links to all the patch notes, should you so desire.

Also, you can find more information here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page

Welcome return!

There’s been almost nothing new or substantial added as far as content goes. It’s been mostly temporary stuff. The biggest change you will notice is the wardrobe.

If the lack of content sounds upsetting, please support expansions in one of the many threads!

Also don’t lose too much hope. They said season 2 of the living story will contain more permanent content. In fact the next release will give us a new zone in the maguuma jungle. Will it be Southsun 2.0? We shall see…

On a plus side,
they havent made a gear threadmill, ascended is still not necessary for most game play. And skills are still much the same.

basically, you’re not left ‘behind’ in anyway, (apart from missing some fun content).

trait layout looks a little different, but it’s just simplified. (though starting a new character pretty much sucks now.)

If you like videos (or just listening to the audio while playing) I suggest:

MattVisual: https://www.youtube.com/user/MattVisual

and

WoodenPotatoes: https://www.youtube.com/user/WoodenPotatoes

Going back a few episodes on each channel should get you up to speed pretty fast.

I’m sad actually. Matt sounds like he is quitting for Wowstar, and I suspect WP is in denial about his enjoyment of GW2 at this point. He got himself stat-capped and is going so far out of his way to find things to do it’s ridiculous.

Well, Matt is all about playing multiple games so I suspect he will just divide his time for a bit. I think WP is pretty deeply invested in Tyria so he will probably be a round for awhile. Plus the vast majority of their Youtube fan base surround GW2.

All of that may change with Season 2 though. If Anet starts it off right and just blows us away I’m sure the excitement will carry them far. However, if Anet just lays another egg like Season 1… well Wildstar does have housing and mounts.

I wouldn’t play wowstar even if it were the only game in existence. If Anet “lays another egg” with season 2, I’ll probably just go back to single player games.
