After the Heart is complete
I’m not against the idea in theory…I’m just wondering how easily it might or might not be abused. It’s always the few abusers who ruin stuff for everyone else.
Also the programming time to add something like this might take more than you’d think.
Its a great idea if it was not for the propensity of people to abuse events. There are certain heart events that are easier to do than others, and even those still you would then be able to mass farm. For example, I point you to the event in cursed shore right now that is being heavily abused as it simulates an endless DE.
I do think something needs to be done, as I find, even while leveling, that hanging around or searching for a DE is quite frankly a waste of time when I can just go to the next heart. If I had some reward other than the minor exp for killing mobs, then I might hang around a heart area waiting for a DE, which would help the life of those areas.
But quite frankly, except for heavily populate servers, most heart zones are dead as a doornail. I advocate random special yellow chests for events all over, to encourage people to not use dragon timers. Unfortunately someone would find a way to abuse that as well, which brings us back to the original problem.
I understand what you are both saying with regards to botting/abuse etc. Actually I had thought to post this a few days ago but held off due to thinking about that myself. After second thoughts tho I figured well people will always try to find ways to abuse the game and thus far Anet has done an excellent job dealing with it (from what I have seen). So I thought well we should NEVER let the potential abuse from others stop us from thinking of or adding new ideas/things to the game. Deal with those as/when they come.

The only thought I would add is that the award for each incremental “help unit” (say, 10 more dead arachnids or 12 more bandits or what have you) should be small enough to avoid the inevitable heart camping that would occur otherwise.

Oh I agree that the rewards should be so small so that you wouldn’t want to do these things over say an actual DE if it came up or to move on to the next heart if not done yet or map complete.
In fact I would go as far as to say perhaps this option does not kick in until the map is complete or even the world map to that extent. So that the intended purpose is actually done – have these things be something we can do AFTER maps/world complete and we can’t do any of them again unless starting a new alt of course.
Now what if all Heart Quests could be turned into dailies? Say you get registered for completing them the first time for world completions sake, but from then on they reset every day? Sounds awesome to me!

You can. Help them kill the mobs in the hearts by attacking the same one they are. Helps them do it fast and in some cases stay alive if they pull some adds. You could also show them where to go if they are not sure and what to do.

That’s kind of how I play in the lower levels now.
I’ll purposely use a support build and follow lower level folks offering buffs and heals while they do their thing. Sometimes I’ll come in to stomp on a vet or high health monster for fun.
Though I do enjoy the premise of hearts being reworked for dailies, almost like a ‘keep up with…’ activity to see if things are going okay for that NPC.
Oh I just happened to drop by the apple orchard. What’s that you say? Spiders still? I’ll stomp a few and then that contributed to my daily along with my daily kills.
I do still visit some karma dealers because peaches and apples are cheaper that way for me.

exactly. but what about all the other ways to finish the hart except killing? i want team hart bars that get filled by all pt members participating, no matter if someone did the hart before. i dnt need any reward.
Some quests are far easier than others. I know some that can be completed in a minute or so (For example: Bloodtide coast, crab one is really easy). If you were to be awarded again and again with it, I could probably stack up a nice pile of riches very easily.
