Depending how high you want to go in fractals you shouldn’t need any infusions so high. You could probably get by with just 5 on each item if you had all trinkets at 5 and full ascended gear with 5 each. I am at about 30 or 35 AR myself and it did me well enough. However I never planned to go too high in fractals myself.

Having said all that tho you can get 10 on each item without using anything higher that 5’s. You can put two 5’s on them but that requires using the Mystic Forget and a lot of mats or something…..didn’t look too much into as the wiki is not the best for info in my experience.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

the reason above 10 is so high in price.
Is that it takes 512 +1AR to craft it.

However you first need to forge an infusion slot on your gear to use crafted ar.
http://dulfy.net/2013/11/28/gw2-agony-infusions-slot-and-agony-resist-guide/

It’s advised to have about 10AR higher than the level you plan on doing, but at level will suffice.
(basically if you want to do level 20-having 30 AR would be perfect, but having 20 ar is manageable.)

Fractals are meant to be a grind, just keep playing at the level you have enough ar for and work on progressing slowly.

The thing is, I could understand let’s say if offensive and defensive could only be bought with relics, would make more sense. But it’s another huge gold sink. I would love to do high level fractals but it’s too expensive to do so I could spend that gold more wisely.

Don’t forget you don’t necessarily need the versatile infusions.

For example the Versatile Mighty Infusion gives +5 power +5 AR and requires 250 powerful blood, 100 passion FLOWER, 50 mystic coins and 100 philosopher’s stones.

The Mighty Infusion also gives the same stats +5 power and + 5 AR but is less than half the price (still not cheap I grant you) at 100 powerful blood, 250 passion FRUIT, 20 mystic coins and 20 philosopher’s stones.

The only difference is that the versatile infusions can be used in either offensive or defensive slots. Only really useful if you were trying to completely min/max your stats, but the AR is identical.

Across ascended armor, trinkets, backpiece and weapons there are 16 infusion slots, at least 6 offensive and at least 8 defensive with some wiggle room on the amulet and backpiece. You can get 80 AR using the ordinary rather than versatile infusions and choose power + vitality stats for instance. Overall this is still not cheap but far less gougingly expensive than using the versatile infusions. This is before you even think of adding the additional agony infusion slots to rings and backpiece.

You only need 55 AR for level 49, which is the highest level worth doing.

You can attain this 55 AR purely from purchasing Simple Versatile Infusions for 75 Fractal Relics a piece.

All other sources of AR are far, far more expensive and frankly an unreasonable investment to make.

Sorry but more than +10AR in Back item is not needed. Here is Why:

  • Helm +5
  • Shoulder +5
  • Chest +5
  • Gloves +5
  • Pants +5
  • Boots +5
  • 2H +10 or MH&OH +10
  • 2xRing (5+5+5+5)
  • 2xEaring (5+5)
  • Amulet +5
  • Back item (5+10)

That if you ask me is a lot of AR.If you have all of this then you don’t need more than 10AR in you back item. And 10AR in TP right now is only 67g or something like that.So i don’t understand why would anyone complain.Everything i listed is 90AR in total.
Also this is one part of the end game so deal with it.

What kind of bad experience have you had? The wiki is literally the best source we have available to us. All of the recipes for ascending items are available and accurate. The only things that aren’t fully fleshed out is new content, like that the trait pages aren’t saying unlock parameters on them.

This is a badly implemented grindy system. Players have to do the maths (rather than playing the game) to sort out a gear check problem. If you don’t have the gear you can’t do the content. The maths offers players bad choices between grinding more resources, cheap solutions (7s + 8s) that will be unrecoverable if you need better later, and loss of capability (stat infusions vs agony infusions). With the agony levels forming a system, the system gives you AR 55 as the maximum benefit for cost. You don’t find out the AR levels by playing, you have to come to the web to find out.

As others have said, stick to level 29-30 or stick to 49. Only go for 50 if you have all the resources at your disposal already.

Is the min-maxing worth it in this case for the versatile infusions? Or is the dps increase too minor for the price?

When people pay hundreds of gold for cosmetic side grades because there is little to spend money on, it is objectively worth the cost.

Stats > Appearance > Investments is my priority of how I spend money.

I didn’t say “bad experiences” at all. I said “it’s not the best for info in my experience”. Which tbh I stated in a hurry and probably not 100% what I meant. I just meant that the information could be easier to read, and by this I mean the wiki overall. Sometimes you really have to click on every link to get to the information you are looking for and even then you can still be as confused as you were before loading the wiki up.

I don’t blame the hard workers that do their best to keep the wiki up to date and full of info because tbh I think a HUGE part of that job should come from the makers of the game. It’s just that when you look at other games and how the devs of those games give the information for aspects of their games (even if they only provide the very basic information) it can usually be read very easily and at a glance. Not forcing you to do specific searches here and there and walk through a maze of links to finally find that information you have been looking for.

Now I am not going to give you specific examples right now of what I mean because tbh I very rarely use the wiki mainly due to these issues. Also it’s been a while since I have used the wiki to find such pinpoint accuracy information on something as such as I am referring to so I really don’t have any examples off the top of my head right now.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

The reasoning behind having high AR on gear is to give you the freedom to use different weapons without relying solely on ascended weaponry.

If you can arrange to have >=70AR purely on your armour and trinkets, then you will be able to use whatever weapons you wish at fractal 50. This is what many hard core fractal players, myself included, aim for. On the flipside of it, the loot drops at high levels compared to low levels scale so inconsistently that sometimes it’s not worth it. But hey it’s something challenging (sort of) to do
