So long Treeface.
“…Kormir? I know not of whom you speak.”
Don’t worry about being wary, just report them, block them and delete the message. Too easy.
I hope people read the note which states that the message doesn’t come from Guild Wars 2 Team.

Some don’t as you occasionally see threads popping up on here asking about the message’s authenticity.
I send them the email of the Nigerian Prince who has already said he has 2.5 million dollars he wants to send me and tell them that’s my Guild Wars 2 new email. He’s lonely and just needs someone to talk to.
There’s already a sticky, as well as posts by Gaile about this. There’s no need constantly spam these topics in new threads.
The formulation and grammar in that text is so kittening bad it’s embarassing. Do they really think they can trick people with a text like that?
They can catch new players easily with these kind of scams. That is why you see them spamming these after each sales.
If only there was something on these letters to inform players that these are fakes…
hmmm…
The really depressing part is tons of people are noobish enough to fall for such a simple ruse and that’s why these mails keep happening.
Never seen one in game like that.
I get them in my personal email… not so much now..
People please remember that not all Guild Wars 2 players use the forums, so they are unaware that forum users are already aware of them! Try to avoid sarcastic replies to posts like these as they are just trying to do a good thing by warning us!

I read that the grammar is like that for a reason. What they don’t want to do is waste their time on people who are already suspicious or disbelieving. If someone doesn’t notice errors like that then they are more likely to accept what the message is saying. Either they aren’t critical thinkers, are poorly educated or it’s not their native language and they miss mistakes that they would see in their own language
The theory said it’s a way to screen out those they consider undesirable as they won’t answer a message that they see is obviously fake.

99.5% of recipients will delete the email without a second thought. When several million people receive the same email, the remaining .5% is a pretty big number.
Everyday I must delete these kind of mails – Like 10 times each day atleast.
Im getting realy tired of this. So for the rest of my guildwars time I must delete multiple mails. I dont wanna do that
Is there anyway arenant will fix this in the future?
I dont like daily spam, and there is nothing I can do about it :S
I think I’ve gotten 2 of these ever. Think I was standing in spvp isle.
Daymnz you got more luck then I do I guess
Is there anyway arenant will fix this in the future?
Report them so Anet can actually take actions against these people and give them the good ol’ banhammer.

Yes I do that man. Like everyday:( Im just super tired of it doing it.
Its like a daily routine. Its almost like a job.
I’ve never gotten one. Ever. You must be an outlier, I doubt most people get more than one or two.
Just report and delete.
Ive noticed they appear when you go to starter zones or unpopular lower level maps.
Never got one of these. Bad luck mate..
I’ve had, like, 3 or 4 spread out over several months. The most recent one was in French, amusingly. I think the OP is just really unlucky.
~looks at empty mailbox~
I don’t get any mail. Ever.
Never got one.
It’s almost like a job??
I think your exaggerating and complaing just for the sake of making a post.
I have never gotten one of these the most I get is gold sellers in whisper
I guess standards of behaviour must be upheld, it can’t be helped.
Haven’t seen one for over an year.
I’ve actually never had one of these but I have heard about them on the forum.
My guess is they target specific types of people or people in specific areas. For example I’ve noticed I get far more gold seller spam in map chat and whispers in the Heart of the Mists and Rata Sum than anywhere else.
In this case I’d guess they’re more likely to target new players who are less likely to have experience with the real Anet processes, and therefore people with low level characters, in low level maps or with few achievement points.
As for what you can do all you can really do is report them. Anet can and do ban these people but it can take some time (I think they sometimes want to collect a whole group and ban them together so there’s less risk of the ‘survivors’ figuring out what gave the others away and changing their tactics).
It’s definitely not normal to get multiple messages per day though.
i got a mail today saying that my account will be shutdown…i know this is not ANET coz it has no logo..but be wary of these tactics … i almost fell to my chair and scream to death when i read the mail..but fortunately i see no logo…
and hopefully ANET will see to this…
There’s also a note at the bottom that says it’s sent by a player and not a member of ArenaNet staff.
Anet is aware of those scams, and sadly people still fall for that even with the note on the bottom of the window.
Just report the sender and move on.
Well known, well reported, long running scam. Hit the ! button and report as a scam and delete the mail.
There’s a stickied thread in this subforum about this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Alert-In-Game-Mail-Scams/first
They’re aware. The best you can do is report it by clicking the “!” symbol at the bottom of the mail- report for “Scamming”.
ty tyrians..i now can dance with the quaggans with no worries,,
I am not sure there is much they can actually do about it.
The message is generally sent by a hacked account, in hopes that someone will go to the link, so they can steal another account. Such accounts are used by gold sellers as well.
Although Anet has taken steps, and continues to do things to stop gold sellers, in the end it’s up to the end user and their account/computer security. If you have a weak password over multiple accounts, non secure internet connections, weak/outdated/no existant firewalls, anti-virus, etc. then you are more likely to be “hacked”. Especially if you go to links like the one above…
Just report, and move on. Theres not much else you can do.
To the devs: I just wanted to make a suggestion (although I’m sure I did this before): It’s well noted that the warning on bottom isn’t easily noticeable for a few players, otherwise we wouldn’t still see threads poping up about this subject.
What about making official mails look some more different? Official mails already have that company logo in them but what about making a different background? Official mails could show some different background like a simple red gradient maybe, similar to what’s used for devs posts on forums. It would be straightly and easily recognized as an official mail just a first glance. Even new players that has never seen forums or any official mails would easily recognize it because it would be a lot different than normal mails. I’m not saying to get rid of that warning, but use a different background in addition to that warning.
Also, although that warning is a great thing its layout doesn’t seem to be much efficient, it would be better if placed at the top, just below subject.
I’m not sure adding color to the background would help those that come to the forums and state, ‘I see the message about this being from another player, but….’.
If it is a new player, how would it help? Unless every player was sent an ‘Official’ mail, and forced to open it, and read it. It’s a bit like the ToS players are expected to read before agreeing to….some do, and some do not.
One would think the very fact that the link can not be ‘clicked’, when the mail expressly directs one to do so, would be a clue….
This looks like an old thread, but I have only recently, within last 4 days received 2 of these e-mails warning my account will be shut down. I screen shot it and showed it to support through an e-mail and I hope that player account that was used to scam me into going to a site to authenticate/verify my account was banned.
But, a long time ago, many, many months ago, I received an ingame mail with some miniatures attached. It was some kind of thank your from Arena net for purchasing gems or something. It was a very old message and I was deleting old messages. But, before I deleted it, I noticed it said at the bottom it was from another player and not the Guild Wars 2 team.
I accepted the items in the message many months ago when it was originally sent. I don’t remember seeing that message at the bottom many months ago. But now I wonder about it.
To report another player for an phishing attempt e-mail is not specified in the reasons to report. Is scamming the correct reason to report the player that sent the e-mail? I don’t like to report players. But, I don’t want them to be able to come in game and keep sending dangerous in game messages to players.
Edited to add: I noticed I received my first in game message about my account soon to be shut down right after I posted my first message on forum. Whoever is doing this is just combing the forum and mailing everybody once they see our account name in the forum. I’ve had another one now, I guess I will keep receiving these kinds of messages and I’ll keep reporting them as scammers.

I just got one of these today. I feel sorry for the new players who fall for this.. Even if there is a disclaimer saying it wasn’t from a certified GM. It still made me give pause. I hope that this will somehow in the future be fixed. Still reported and blocked. but man these kinds of things rub me the wrong way. I don’t understand some people.
Pretty sure this fake as well. But the thought of losing the time, effort, and in some cases money, that was put into you account it really does hit a nerve.
I Don’t Get Into Game Mail Scams – I Report Them.
Legitimately, If I Did Something Wrong, I’m Sure I’d Be Either Suspended Or Banned.
Got a in game mail from this person claiming to be “GM Sharky Shark” about account disruption. Have uploaded a screenshot of the in game mail.
Just got the exact same in-game mail as the person above. Anet definitely need to implement a way of reporting those mail in-game. There’s a way to report sellers etc in chat channel by right clicking their name but there’s nothing for mail.
Anyway like I said, exactly same message as above only the name is GM Jofak Svanir. I’ll go to customer support after this to see if there’s a way of reporting there.
They’re making the rounds again for sure. Just got the one below, reported right away. Easy clues to know it’s not an aNet employee because there’s no aNet icon on the mail, and the bottom of the message says that it was sent by another player and not an employee.
Thank you Gayle, I have received several of these “Cancellation Notices” and have not paid any attention to them, but am glad the team is aware they are happening.
One comment… Is there ANY WAY to save the game before you take a big Jump to get to a Vista. LOL

I know I took a while to reply but I have seen this only now. Well, the thing is what type of mail do the player receive more? Mails from players or in-game mails, or official mails from Anet team or gem store related mails? Mostly the former and my suggestion was using a different style for the latter. In fact, a player would get used that regular mails has nothing different, but for the first time they get an official email (gem store purchase or even a welcome mail [why not?]) they would notice this one is different from the usual. I just had thrown an idea anyway.
Now for those posting screenshoots here: just an advice I believe it would be a good practice to blur or hide the Sender’s name from those screenshoots. It’s because possibly that player isn’t even aware that account is being used for that, it could be a stolen account and it could bad mouth that player and cause troubles to them in the event they got their account back.
I believe the “Note” at the bottom needs to be a different color. It kinda blends with the background. Red or Bright Green would be better. Both would grab the attention of players and let them know something is fishy about these letters.
