Soooo what I PERSONALLY want is all weapons for all classes. Now I bold “personally” because people might not agree with me. I know this is a lot to ask for, new animations and all that, but its not really a request, more of a dream. A lot more diversity would probably be added when it comes to builds and traits. People could also choose whatever legendary they want, instead of choosing something because you HAVE to.
I want mah dual-sword necromancer >:D

What do you think?

I’m a big fan of this idea, but in practice I’m not sure how well it will turn out. Some classes really could use some expansion, but I don’t know that all weapons are the solution; for example, eles will have 20 new abilities per weapon, for tons of weapons. And then there are warriors who are sort of defined by being able to use a lot of weapons.

I’d love to see the weapons expanded upon, but I just don’t know that all weapons for all classes is the best thing to do.

i think the problem would not be the animations, but the skills themselves…
i think, that the fact not every weapon is available for every class is a nice thing for class uniqueness… although i would add a signature weapon typical of only one class.
a fan for the mesmers, a cane for the eles, a schyte for the necros, a battle axe for the warriors, a shotgun for engies, a whip for rangers, a sniper rifle for thieves, a book for the guardians…

just examples of course

Personally, I would LOVE to see all classes with all weapons. I would love to see how creative they could get with some?
A Ranger with a staff? Maybe some kind of Druid-esque skills.
A warrior with a staff… uh… Maybe something melee oriented?
Theif with a rifle? Sniper rifle. Staff
Engineer with a scepter? uhh…
This is hard to think out, but i bet it could work.

/Signed, it’s about time people started seeing reason. What’s stopping a warrior from picking up a scepter? or two? They have their own magical properties I’m sure something could happen. If not that then I see high potential for secondary professions, something that would actually make guild wars 2, a guild wars game.

Guild Wars 2 is not a sequel to the original Guild Wars but merely an alternative story setting.

I don’t think the animations are the issue. It’s more that the skills are tied to your weapon. Creating and balancing that many weapons for that many profession would be a lot of work.

There are some things I’m looking forward to, and some things I’m not.

For example, Mesmers/Elementalists/Necromancers using Rifles and Pistols. Anyone who was a fan of Outlaw Star probably remembers being disappointed that something like Caster Shells rarely ever shows up. Apparently in great works of fiction, no one ever has the idea of propelling magic with gunpowder. I’ve always been fascinated with bullet technology in real life, and while the engineer provides some form of trick bullet, I’m looking forward to what happens when these classes get firearms.

Other things… not so much. For example, I can’t see much of a use for a scepter or a focus on a Warrior or an Engineer. A Torch is counter-intuitive to a Thief (try and stay hidden while glowing like a nightlight). I can’t figure out what a guardian would use a Dagger for, and a ranger with a hammer just seems… cruel to the animals they are fighting.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

I have no idea how they could do this and 1) balance all the skills, 2) avoid redundancy.

I loved Outlaw Star!

I can easily see Rifle for Elementalists being a good weapon for high damage to single targets at range. Right now, for real range we use a staff, which is heavy AoE. Something long ranged but focused would be nice. Or, make each element on it work differently, fire is AoE, air is trick/distance shots, earth packs on bleeds and other status effects, and water is more close combat oriented.

I do agree that there are some weapons that don’t really make sense for some classes. Everyone should be able to use a daggers and maces, though. Those are just painfully basic weapons, and to quote a book by Larry Niven: “A dagger always works”.

I actually thought of this aswell, Warriors could use a staff as a fighting stick, Rangers could use a focus to call in animal allies, A trident could be used to slap people

You could also make them able to wield all weapons, but ineffectivly, like a elementalist can shoot some random arrows with a bow, but it does low dmg and has a chance to miss if far away, is this a usefull weapon? no, but it’s a nice extra.

Apparently in great works of fiction, no one ever has the idea of propelling magic with gunpowder.

That’s kind of like making mashed potatoes with C4.

Technically, you might be able to but I wouldn’t recommend it if you prefer your mashed potatoes within a 20 meter radius. Magic guns though, I never had a problem with but you can’t rationalize a japanese anime interpretation for it. Caster Shells had several downfalls: 1. They were limited ammo. Jean likely carried less than a dozen shells on him and they weren’t cheap. 2. Some of the shells had adverse effects and some fizzle. Would you approve of magic rifles that had a chance of having 0 effect on your necro? Or that could harm yourself in certain attunements?

That said, I’m not a big fan of all weapons on all professions. There are conceptual misfits all around and one strong advantage to some classes like Warrior or Guardian over Elementalist or Engineer is their variety of weapons over the breadth of skills available with fewer weapons.

I could see spreading out some more weapons to some professions but others would seem rather redundant (What would a shortbow do on a Warrior? Shoot fast? That’s rifle. AoE burst? That’s longbow. A mix of the two? Redundant. How about a dagger on a Guardian?).

So ~shrug~. I’d prefer they focus on adding playstyles to the professions, not just weapons. Just my opinion…

How about a dagger on a Guardian?).

They can stab you with it.

Offhand, it could be used to parry attacks. Give it a couple of defensive skills different from the shield skills. Two parry skills, for example. One that counters with a stun (you knock their weapon into a bad position), and one that causes vulnerability (they’re a bit off balance). That would make it useful in melee, but pretty worthless if they’re attacked at range.

That would be nice to refresh the game, but what I really wanted is alternative skills to current weapon set. Something like the utilities, where you could change the #1 for another #1 skill in the weapon and so on. If every class can equip every weapon, this would destroy the class uniqueness.

@edit
In this way would allow more customizations than all weapons to equip.

Sorry for my english.

But what’s wrong with redundant? Think of it as having more options for weapon skins to get the same basic effect.

Like I said, I’d prefer the devs aim for more playstyles vs just weapons. Don’t really care if the weapon skins are shinier, as it is I don’t grind for legendaries or the FotM event skin, I pick a skin I fancy and stick with that.

I made suggestions for weapon skills for Ele and Warrior and they usually offer a playstyle that is unique from what’s available. It’s just my opinion that, if it doesn’t give you new options to play with, the shiny skin effect will wear off just like skins tend to do. Nothing wrong with cool skins, but skins aren’t “fun” unless you just like looking at pretty things.

I think if ANet were to work toward anything, I would put this toward the top of the list. The build variety alone would make this worth it.

Would it be tough to balance? Sure…but so is the game already.

There’s absolutely no reason why a necromancer wouldn’t pick up a gun or a greatsword. Elementalist with a rifle or a longbow? Anyone heard of an Arcane Archer…

The more in this direction would do more towards the “Play your way” mentality then anything else. Also, as far as the redundancy arguments go: There’s nothing wrong with a little redundancy, as it helps people pick weapons for style as well as function.

I can’t lie that i would love to have more choices of skills with my classes by being able to use a larger variety of weapons and i think it also allows players to branch out into, building another legendary that they prefer but couldn’t previously use because it was a restricted a class they didn’t like. +1

I personally don’t want to see every weapon for every class. A Class is as much defined by what it can’t do as what it can do. And I think you would lose a lot of class style by giving every class every weapon.

But some extra on each class would be great. And possibly an extra weapon or 2 added to the mix.

EG. Mesmer are one of the more martial casters, they already use pistols and swords to channel their magic. A pistol main hand and maybe a long range rifle might be really interesting.

Elementalist, I would love to see a bow added to their mix as a longer range utility and single target weapon. Arcane Archer sounds awesome.

Ranger, personally staff, as a control druidic weapon. maybe a spell that summons a horde of woodland critters to swarm the enemy, causing weakness and cripple.

Warrior, has almost every martial weapon in the game. But I would love to see them gain a Glaive/Battle Axe. I could see this weapon working well with a Necro as well, turning them into some kind of Grim Executioner melee class, maybe with AoE cripples and Pulls so the Necro can stop their enemies escaping.

Engineer, Hammer, nuf said

I also thinking maybe adding secondary abilities to each of the 2/3/4/5 slots, which you can switch between. So maybe 4 on Ele Daggers could be Ride the Lighting or an AoE stun, with the lighting whip. But you can only change it out of combat.

In other words don’t dilute the Class by giving them access to everything. But I would love to see them to add extra weapons where they make sense, and alternate weapons abilities so you can change weapons skills to give a bit more customization.

I agree. In fact, I think the professions are already overly homogenized as is. Letting everyone use every weapon doesn’t bring much to the table other than more for the sake of more. And more isn’t always a good thing.

Ok so, based on bundles and what have you, all classes can, lore wise, use all weapons. The weapons we as a class can use though are the ones our classes have “personalized”.
Guardians using their divine powers through their hammers, engineers modifying a harpoon to shoot rockets, a necromancer syphoning life through their dagger’s blade, etc. It makes no sense for every class to have every weapon, and face it, (magic) staves belong only to magic classes. And not everyone needs to use a greatsword.

I was wondering if anyone else wanted this besides me!

When I heard “new skills” that is the first thing that crossed my mind. I want flexibility! I can’t tell you how often I like using a weapon except for, say, one ability. Being able to use a different weapon, with a different set of locked abilities, doesn’t seem nearly as exciting as the hope of being able to enhance my weapon and swap out skills.

It also seems better for creating new builds than more utility slot options, since there are only three to play with, and I already have a pool to choose from.

Not sure I really want all classes to be able to use all weapons. As others have said, seems like it will make them too alike. I like that some skins can only be used for certain classes. I wouldn’t mind as much new weapons that aren’t yet in the game, distributed logically.

id like to see it but the only problem would be eles with the four attunements and engineers with the bombs and grenades. they(eles) would have so many skills it boggles my mind and engineer it almost seems like a waste if you got grenades and bombs to have all those weapons. as for the other classes. id love to see then expand on them like that
