Q:
All heavy armor look the same...
There are tons of different armors. Use the trading post and right-click to preview. Or go to PvP and look in the lockers there.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
I apologize for my post, I was very tired when I made it.

There you go.
The number of available armors increase exponentially as you level. By the time you hit 80, not only will you have access to all the skins that drop, but also those you can craft, buy with karma, earn from WvW badges, earn from dungeon tokens, and craft in the MF.
EDIT: oh yea, forgot about cultural and order armors

Importantly a lot of armor sets aren’t available through the Trading Post. There are 8 dungeons in this game and each one has a unique armor set that can only be purchased with tokens from that dungeon. There’s also sets purchased with karma, a set for each of the Orders you join during your personal story and probably others I’ve missed.
At level 23 you won’t have had the opportunity to obtain many different armor sets. They certainly don’t introduce a new set for every level. A lot of them you can only really get at level 80, but it doesn’t take long to get there.
You can also mix and match for more unique looks. Sometimes it doesn’t make a big difference but the right combination of pieces can look like a totally different set.

All armour looks the same.
Light = dresses, masks and hoods.
Medium = trench coats and bandit masks.
Heavy = Mini skirts.Unless we get to transmute all armour types and hide more armour we will never see diversity.
Diversity is created by the player’s mind, not the designer’s sketch.
I think this is possibly the most inaccurate thing I have ever read on these forums.
And that is truly saying something.

lol agreed. However I do think the medium armor section could get some nicer updates. Even tho it’s not just trench coats, compared to light and heavy armor it’s defiantly lacking something.

I agree. When I’m designing looks for my light and heavy armored characters I get really excited about all the different looks I could give them. With the medium armor it’s more a case of finding the one combination that looks ok.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
So you want some different armor looks as you level up, I’m betting so far all you’ve used are either drops or the stuff you get from the “armorsmith” merchant that is in the starter map. All of the “armorsmith” merchants sell the exact same skin in the worst stats for your level, not worth buying. As you level up, there is a periodic update to the look of the dropped armor, however I want to say it’s only about every 25 levels or so, so you only have about 4 different looks of dropped armor. Most of the armor variety you will get either from crafted armor, which is easily bought from the trading post if you aren’t into crafting yourself, (changes looks every 15 levels starting at level 10, plus a separate skin for the rare version), or the armor you get from the karma heart vendors. Each level area will have a different look for the karma vendors after you complete the heart. These armors are available starting about level 7 I think, it depends on the level of the heart completed.
So there are ways to get different looks as you level up, but naturally the most variety and the best looks come at level 80. Also check out cultural armor, a bit pricey, but you can use the first tier starting at about level 35, I think, tier two is level 60. Anyway, hope that helps.
I forgot to add, if you’re doing your personal story you get a few unique looking armors from there as well.
90% of the armors basically look the same till your not 80
and if your a new player you wont be able to afford the rarer and better low lvl gear skins.
and lets not talk about the amount of transmute stone you would need to constantly resking your whole gear till your 80.

-Guild Wars 2
90% of the armors basically look the same till your not 80
This is patently untrue. There’s quite a variety during leveling- including karma vendors, crafting and cultural armor, which becomes available at level 35.

I have a stack of the transmute stones (not the crystals, but the stones) in my bank that is over 100 right now. You get three every time a character explores one of the main cities fully. You get 1 with the daily occasionally. They add up. You only need crystals for your gear once you’re level 80.
But all of this is really beside the complaint this thread makes, which is that all armor looks alike. No, it doesn’t. Even medium has some interesting variations to it, despite the reliance on trench coats.

1. I can think of at least 3 light armor sets for females that aren’t dresses.
2. Wat.
Play a class that uses medium armor. You literally have about 2 choices of armor up until lvl 80. “Ye olde Matrix” trenchcoats and duelist gear, but you’ll spend about 99% of the game wearing option #1. Once you get to 80, you have all the cultural armor available to you, but it’s still not as much “which one looks good?” as much it is “which one of these sucks the least?”

Cultural armor is available starting at level 35, dude. I’d advise you to look up some of the medium armors on the various gallery sites. I mean, I totally agree that they could use some diversity, but there are not “literally 2 choices” until 80.
EDIT: I also want to mention that I main an engineer and a thief.

I know it’s available at 35, but generally most if not all of the cultural armor (and dungeon and order gear) up the T3 tier might as well be thrown into the trenchcoat category if we’re being honest here. It’s not “literally” a trenchcoat, but they aren’t really swinging for the fences as far as design goes. So yeah. sure, it’s not “literally 2 choices.” It’s more like, at most, 4 if you chose the right race. Whatever way you slice it, it’s a downright pitiful amount.
Armor is terribly done in this game. I can’t even gear my female human in a set of pants that don’t have frills and garters or don’t look like harem pants.
I’ve been dying to have more heroic/sterotypical looking heavy armour for a long time. The Phalanx armour is pretty close to what I like, although I don’t quite like anything on it outside of the shoulders, chest and helmet but then I saw it on my wife’s character and it looks totally different!
I’m just sick of armour of all types that’s covered in spikes, fire and skulls. That sort of armour looks totally lame if you ask me.

You only get cool armor at level 60-80, mostly just level 80 tho

> wants cool armor
> doesnt want to spend time getting it
…drop 10 bucks on the gemstore and get a set I guess ..?
edit: also, considering you’re lvl23, I wouldn’t say you’ve played the game alot at all. Each lvl takes about 1hr. GW2 isn’t a game where it takes you several months to reach cap. More like a week..

So I’ve been playing GW2 ALOT, and I’ve really enjoyed it, until i got to level 23 and realized…
Really?
Unless you’ve play mainly only Asian MMO’s (L2 ect) level 23 is hardly anything and no one’s really going to have armor diversity before max level. People level up and move on, the truly epic armor should be at max level, the most variet should be at max level, because that is part of the end game.
1. I can think of at least 3 light armor sets for females that aren’t dresses.
If you’re looking for light armor pants for a female there’s the starter crafted pants (Embroidered) that look like pajama bottoms. Then there’s the Tactical pants (I believe it’s a mid-level heart vendor karma item in PvE) that has pants, but the belt has a string of skulls that sticks out noticeably on the front left.
All of the other pants have skirts, dresses (long or short), mid-length coats or long coats over them — and the leg pieces include the skirt portion, so you can’t use just the pants without the dress/coat/skirt.
Oh, and Vigil light legs are a half-kilt.
(OP)
I can agree that a wider choice of appearances while leveling would be a great addition to the game. If they’re well designed and differentiates from the other designs (which they should if added), they will probably be well used by level 80s as well.
But keep the philosophy that gear gets increasingly flashy the higher the level.

Gw2 is a masterpiece at it’s foundation. Content-wise however…
So I’ve been playing GW2 ALOT, and I’ve really enjoyed it, until i got to level 23 and realized… “Oh wait, all the armors look the same” At first with all the concept art and stuff the game advertised i thought i’d have the opportunity to level up and each level get some kitten looking armor, or at least different look armor! I mean i paid $50 for this game and the devs are too lazy to make different armor models? I’ve been wearing the same armor for 23 levels all that’s changed is my dye color and stats… The reason i like to play MMO’s is for the cool armors, for the sence that i’ve spent these amounts of hours to make my guy look awesome! But i dont get that in this game. I looked in ther black lion store and i looked for different items in heavy armor, there are about 5 different sets and therer are hundreds of variations of them for different levels with different stats!
Unless after level 20 you start getting different looking armors that aren’t in the black lion trading i want a refund.Thats the whole reason i wanted to play, to get cool armors! All I’ve seen in gladiator and some legendary items that look cool… AT LEVEL 80! If i have to spend months to finally get armor that doesn’t look plain and boring i will shoot myself, but hopefully i wont have to if they refund my money…
Again im new to the game so im not sure, but i dont want to play another second of this game if there are no more new armors until level 80 so hopefully someone can answer that.
Hopefully someone can also explain why all the armors look the same. People say that armor starts getting better after level 20 but so far doesn’t seem true and everyone i see looks the same too! I’ve played some free to play games that give you new armor like every level that looks super different and cool!
You’re level 23.
Armor all looks slightly similar up until past 30th level when some of the different crafted and karma armors begin to show up and cultural armor becomes available. That’ll continue as you move up the level ranks. Of course the very best armor is at level 80 when you’ll have dungeon sets you can work towards, full cultural, crafted, karma armors.. and you can even mix and match to create your own unique look.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
By level 35 you’ll have access to several crafted looks, drops, T1 cultural, CM dungeon, and at least a dozen transmute stones.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Lvl 5, 10, 15 and 20 crafted armour all look alike. Just like the lvl25, 30 and 35 look the same. Crafted armour changes looks every 20 levels.

You don’t need to wait to lvl80 to get those skins. You can buy them at lvl2 if you want (can’t access the TP at lvl1…) and just use crystals and stones to transmute them…
(I did that on my latest Charr, because I couldn’t look one second longer at her tail just sticking out of her pants….)
Armor is terribly done in this game. I can’t even gear my female human in a set of pants that don’t have frills and garters or don’t look like harem pants.
At least females don’t look weird in a dress… Try outfitting a light armoured male… There are not a lot of pants around!

Believe me, that annoys quite a lot of females, too (I hate skirts, particularly short ones. There, I said it. Glad my main is an Asura…)
@ topic: With the exception of dungeon armor (and maybe some karma outfits you’d have to be a much higher level to reasonably acquire), you could technically outfit your character in pretty much any outfit from the get-go using Transmutation stones (which you get for free from map-completion), given sufficient funds.
I have to agree with the OP, using the karma vendors in all the zones I leveled through on my guardian from 1-80 I only ever got two armor templates.
This one:
http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/armour/human/human-heavy-stand-reinforced-male.jpg
And this one:
http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/armour/human/human-heavy-karma-pitfighter-male.jpg
It never once ever at all deviated from one of those two. I didn’t know about the cultural armors (never looked), crafting (absolutely hate it’s implementation) or the dungeons (hate the dungeons in this game, no interest in grinding them for an armor set) at the time however.
But rather than forcing us to buy cultural, craft, or run dungeons I’d rather see a greater variety of templates added to the gear off the karma vendors in the zones. Give us more variety in the armor sets, more zone themed theme stuff, race themed stuff, etc. strictly from the renown heart karma vendors.
Edit: And maybe tell newer players where they can find this stuff, it’s not exactly something you’ll know offhand when you start the game.
(edited by Khalith.2987)
It really depends on your character.
Light classes get pretty varied armor from the start, unless you want your female character to wear pants, or to show your gloves
Medium… hate to say it but nearly every armor set in the game looks like a reskin of the exact same trenchcoat and pants. There are only three options (excluding cultural) if you want out of the trenchcoat, and one of them is gemstore.
Heavy armor classes all look the same up until about level 30, and from then on they actually vary a lot in cut and style compared even to light armor.
