All weapons on all proffessions: when?
Never
it was never stated that we are going to see something preposterous such as this about Greatsword Thieves and Staff Engineers.
A new weapon per class would sound acceptable.
Torch thief, Hammer engineer, axe guardian, something like that.
It was stated some time ago (year+?) that all proffessions would be getting all weapons available to them. Any news on when this is going to happen?

I could see thieves get rifles, longbows or greatswords (one of these) I’m sure ANet could implement this into the profession. I don’t see that as lore or gamebreaking.
Hammer engineer, axe guard – agree on that too. Could look nice indeed.

Hmm. I seem to remember reading a red tag stating all weapons on all professions however. I’d have to do some serious digging to find the exact post/article/interview though and I’m not sure it’d be worth the effort.
It wasnt a promise, it was a response to someone asking about new professions and new weapons (polearms etc).
The dev said something like, paraphrasing here: ’we’re more likely to add new weapons for existing professions that are already in game before we add completely new ones’ and mentioned that if they did add a new prof it’d likely be another heavy user. Neither of those statements was a promise, just a response to the question about what their priorities would likely be.

PROGRESSION AT LEVEL 80 EXPANDS
What’s more is that the team is also working very h’ard (forum filter) finding a way to make it so that every profession has access to every weapon and their own weapon skills for those previously locked weapons. Engineer plus Hammer? Check. Again, there’s no specific timeline for this, but a new progression system is coming. Finally those level 80s you’ve been hoarding will get some use, as they’ll be adding more and more skills and traits to the game for years to come and on a regular basis for players to obtain.

The way I remember the dev saying it was that it would be more likely to see current weapons available on different classes before new ones were put in. They never said that they were actually doing it.

See the post above yours. It was also talked about in another website interview as well. Again, I can’t remember which site/article though. If I recall correctly, it was a Colins interview.

BAM! IN YO FACE!
That said, I’d consider the statement a goal, not a promise.
There are some combos that will never work because they don’t really fit.
Imagine a pistol wielding guardian.
Or a hammer wielding mesmer. Or a thief.
Now imagine a dagger wielding engineer. And a torch and scepter wielding warrior.
See some issues? They don’t fit with those classes. At all.
Well…if we can assume that Marjory is a necro, and she uses a GS…why can’t we?
I don’t think all classes should have all weapons, because some combinations wouldn’t make sense (ex. Engi with scepter), and it would take forever to add all the skills (256 new skills for ele). But, maybe 1 new weapon per class: Engi – hammer, Necro – GS, Ranger – rifle, etc.
Might as well add mounts while you’re at it.
(I am kidding!!!)
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

If you guys want to talk about what makes sense on a profession, when it comes down to mesmers, does it make sense to be able to dual wield swords and carry a gs?
In all honesty, I just wanted some sort of confirmation on if this was something they were actually working towards or, if as other posters here are suggesting, they are making only 1 or 2 new weapons per profession, or even if they are going to do anything at all.
Ranger staff please
If they started adding one existing weapon to a class per month it would be huge for this game. Even one per quarter would be pretty good.
If they add all weapons to all classes, they might as well just add the ability to swap classes on the fly like ff14. And if they do that, they might as well allow all characters to wear all kinds of armor…….Which would be interesting imo…

After reading over looks like the author paraphrasing his understanding of things Colun and himself discussed on a phone call for what they were looking at for 2013. Without a transcript for what exactly Colin said would not take it as a solid this was definitely coming.
Though the recent LS missions might be hinting to some new weapons. Beyond the obvious Joey GS did not recognize the attacks adapt master used in new story instance.
I don’t think all classes should ever get all weapons, but I definitely would like to see at least one full weapon “set” per class, that is either a new two-hand or both a main and an offhand. Some classes with more complex interactions can have less, for example I’d like to see Thieves get off-hand Sword, which would be a full set in it’s own, as it would add OHSword 4-5, as well as S/S, D/S, and P/S 3s, for a total of 5 new moves.
Likewise, I’d like to see Eles get offhand Pistol, which would offer them 8 total moves between their attunements.

Instead of able to using all weapons I think this implement can be more better:
For example sword for warrior is usually for condition damage but if a weapon have two style like condition sword and burst sword and you can choose that like switching weapons before entering combat. This styles can go longer as support sword…etc
When? I don’t know, but I do know enough to advise you not to hold your breath for it…

Warriors already use signets, which according to lore are magic, albeit lesser magic. I could imagine a staff warrior summoning ancestral warrior spirits, or a scepter being used as some kind of berserker mage weapon. Magic is common enough in Tyria that it is used to a small degree by everyone.
The only exception is the Engineer, as being rooted in the Charr industrial movement, it is the only class which not only has no magical skills but purposely abstains from magic in favor of technology.

Not entirely sure how Elixers that can reproduce magic effects, shrink you to a tiny mote or stealth or grow you or transform you into a twister are… well… “technology”

Neither am I. I guess that could be the asuran additions to engineering. Or just explained by the natural disconnect between gameplay and lore. No reason to make tech buffs and magic buffs when you could just use them interchangably so long as they have the same affect.
Then again it isn’t as if technology makes any sense in GW2 anyway, 90% of the games vehicles seem to have no space for an engine compartment…

I didn’t come to realize this for a while, but EVERY class in the game is magical. Engineers are more of an externalized magic than others, using “devices” to manipulate magic rather than doing so themselves, but all classes are magic. Without magic, they would not be capable of doing anything a real human could not do.
