i hope while you stop going after the legendary you will get your precursor with random loot. i also hope it for my self…
each time i look at the price of precursor in the tp i perfectly understand how you feel. even if i should ever reach that amount of gold it would be aweful to spend it in a single item.
in fact i decided i’ll keep farming casually all the mats i need for my legendary hoping in the end the precursor will come in the way with no gold involved (there are already the icy runestones that are the mandatory gold sink in the legendary recipe)

So basically, you do not want to spend a large amount gold kind of like how you did not have to spend a lot of gold for t6 materials.
Right now, the other two money gifts cost between 200g-400g (this is a rough estimate). So all of a sudden 600g is a problem.
Honestly, this thread sounds like someone wants to be spoon fed the rest of the way.
I really hope if they ever implement the scavenger hunt you have to spend 600g+.
So you were willing to farm 800g for the other components, but you refuse to farm 600g for the precursor?

Thats not the case at all, Aquiring a legendary should be uniqe. Not farming the same thing over and over to get the gold and buying it off the trade post. If I wanted I could get my Dusk in 4-5 weeks non stop farming CoF.. I’ve made 140g the last two weeks doing CoF + Fractals.
But, you know, it gets boring.. I want something different, it doesnt matter if it takes 4 months to complete as long as it’s not grinding the best way to get gold over and over..
Almost spelled correctly.
Almost had a point.
Almost realised a legendary in GW2 is generally “mid term goal” (in MMO years) and it requires more than the flick of the wrist than other time fillers.
Almost…
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.
Please try again.
So you were willing to farm 800g for the other components, but you refuse to farm 600g for the precursor?
800 gold? I wish I had farmed that much lol..
I bought all the tier 6 materials when they were really low except bloods and tokens which were 120g combined. The others were around 5gold per stack 6 times 6= 36g.
120g = Bloods and Totems
36g= One of each T6, bought cheap
100g = Runestones
500 ectos= Max 120g
I got from salvaging and buying rares from the trade post for 20s each.
2G for the superior blood sigil.
Equals 378 gold, not 800.

So basically, now you are changing the point of your topic from being: “I want a precursor easy” to “make legendaries not a grind.”
As of now, to effectively “buy” a gift a fortune it would cost you 509.24g off of todays market and this estimate was done off of highest buy order (not lowest seller) and a person averaging average on the RNG of mystic clovers. You could effective add or subtract another 50g+ to that number.
Why doesn’t no one complain about the cost of gift of fortune? It is as variable to market movements as much as the precursor is.
Ill tell you why: its because the actual cost of it is effectively hidden, and players actually have to use concepts like “math” to realize how much it costs.

I don’t mind if it will be a grind to get precursors, and I don’t want legendaries to be on a pillow after completing Arah.
I want a way to earn Precursors other than farming/grinding the best way to earn gold OVER and OVER.

of course if you calculate how much it cost to do it you realize it is not cheap, still i have my 77 clovers and not payed a coin in the tp for doing it… only the karma for the obsidian shards and the skill points for the crystals.
edit: what i mean to say is i didn’t have to farm the gold to buy mats to do the recipe. i had my ecto by salvaging rare items i found playing the game

Back in November I had the same choice you.
I had about 350g and I choose to spend it on Dusk instead of the t6.
Currently, I finished my Twilight about a week ago, and let me tell you, it felt horrible spending a lot of money on those t6 and I felt like I “over payed” for it.
You made the wrong choice, and now you came to the forms to complain about it.

I did not have 350 gold in November, I had probably earned 200g all together by then. I had 50 gold to spend and I saw that the prices on the T6 were really low and I bought them.
I allready had 30-40 clovers at that point.

Just because you do not use gold to buy your items, does not mean you avoided paying the cost.
You had a choice like everyone does: Sell your ectoplasm/coins or keep them. If you choose to keep them, you effectively “payed” that cost by the gold you could otherwise have had.
A lot of people seem to miss this concept. You pay for everything in this game: be it by time or gold.

I bought my dusk for about 350g back in November a week before the Karka event.
Do you know how mad I was to see that I had effectively wasted 150g?
After this, it seem like I always have hit the wrong buying times for all my items.
I bought Onyx lodestones for 2.5g roughly and now they about 2g. Another 50g lost.
And t6 were some of the last things I had to buy, and with bot bans they skyrocketed so again I had to “overpay” for things.
So sorry if I do not feel any sympathy towards people who complain about the cost when I effectively wasted over 200g for nothing.
i can never understand how people think the 600 g is “ok”, i had a precursor(dusk) drop for me, yeah i know i’m a lucky basterd, but i’m not even getting close to the rest of the materials, with the main problem being the lodestones. Now i’m not complaining here, but seriously all but the precursor should be enough… Gratz to the OP and i hope you get lucky.
I don’t know if i’m even ever gonna get a legendairy, the kitten behaviour of people around it is so rediculous, i’m gonna get it 3 times as easy because of simple luck, i’m not proud about that, it’s not an achievement, in fact i really find it so stupid… I get a feeling some people don’t even want the skin they want the status, seriously how sad…
I’d trade legendairy’s in for some cool content any day…
ATM i’m not sure wich day will come first, the day i get twilight or the day i put this game down, and i’m not the only one thinking that…
Btw now that i’ve got and soulbounded dusk, i’m getting bored of greatsword, how cool is that…
How bout we stop feeding the need of people to prove themselves with some kind of rare thing?

This game is becoming elitist when it comes to skins, wich makes me sad…
I hate gear threadmills but i’m at a point where i wouldn’t even mind if they put them in while making skins more available.
I want to be able to tell my friends about a cool skin i found somewhere, or i want to be able to look at an awesome skin and ask the person where he got that, and not get an answer “after 5 months of farming” or “for 200 g + on the trading post” every single freaking time… And by the time you have it you’d actually want to swap weapons cause you are bored of that weapon, and mix up your playstile but you can’t cause you have to equip that expensive thing, how else is it justified?
Non-stop farming, grinding, being kitten at eachother because they didn’t put as much “effort” into it… Seriously,
How did it come to this?

You are right, playing the game is playing the game. It’s like tetris, but do you really want to play tetris with unlimited height for hours everday? Doing the same thing over and over?
I want to do different things in the game, and if I decide to do different things I know I willl never get 600 gold. You could play WvW or explore the world for 1 year and not even getting half of the price a precursor is.
Is it that hard to understand? Make precursors HARD to get, but not for gold or a SINGLE currency. Make it spread around so YOU have to DIFFERENT things to get it.
Heck, even make it have to slay each dragon 100 times, 1000 tokens from each dungeon. That would be better than just having it for sale on trade post or the EPIC RNG that it is atm.
(edited by Pandeh.5248)
I can understand why you’d rather wait, and to be honest, you did the smart thing but crafting the other gifts BEFORE aiming for the precursor. I finally finished off Meteorlogicus after a few months of crafting, and bought the precursor off the trading post because it was embarrassingly cheap (went for the looks of the weapon, come on, it’s so pretty!)
Hopefully the scavenger hunt lives up to expectations and it’s a KILL 100 THIS, DO THIS DUNGEON OF THIS AND FARM THIS, SHOVE IN MYSTIC FORGE….ENJOY. Put some lore behind it, make it like you find a map to a long lost weapon, but it’s been drained of it’s former glory. First you need to track down this relic and with the gifts, give it back it’s legendary form. How difficult would it be to create some lore behind a weapon that literally is a shard of the night sky?!
Kind of in the same boat. I’m doing all parts of the legendary EXCEPT factoring the precursor. I’ll simply wait for another method of attaining it. I think it’s difficult enough to get as it is without the additional RNG.

I agree. For a weapon that is completely worthless, unless you have the other 3 items, 600+g is pretty stupid.
They said that they’re working on a way to allow to get the pre-legendary easier, so just chill out, or take a break. No harm in that
lfg cof speed runs, full zerker warr no noobs!
I am legendary!
Well, they’re not programming the new way, so it will take at least another half year until anything will be included to the game. I’m already waiting since 2 months for the precursor. At first I was farming because the price was at 140g, then it rose to 340g, at this time I thought, well it will get hard, but I can do that and now … 600g … sorry but I am no hardcore gamer. I needed a few months for every gift. So why don’t I need a few months for the precursor?
It is kind of unbalanced right now, but it is a new game so faults have to be expected. What I didn’t expect was, how long they would need to react at all.
They realised the problem already in November and did the Karka-Event, which was totally right, but since then I didn’t see any great changes to solve the problem.

They also said that they “were NOT actively working on it”. So until thy DO actively work on it, we need to stay on top of them.
I’m in the same situation as the OP. I see some comments here and I just have to laugh… I still haven’t finished the Gift of Magic, though, but I stopped working on it. Comparing the materials you need (T6 mats, lodestones, etc….) with the precursor is a bit unfair. You can get all the materiales by playing the game, even casual gamers can do it, without farming money. But for the precursor there are only three know methods:
Extremely rare drop from some chests or Orr mobs.
Extremely rare drop from the Mystic Forge.
Buy it from the TP.
You can set targets for the materials, because even if they are rare, it is possible to get them, but the precursor is just pure luck. Counting all my guildies and friends, I’ve only seen two precursors (I’m in 5 guilds), one guildie got the colossus from the Karka chest (he doesn’t even want it), and one friend got Dawn on his first try with exotic GS’s in the MF. And most of us have been playing the game since the first day.
Yet some people think that everybody can make 100g every month… well, gues what? That’s not true, not even close to the reality. In the time I spent farming money for Dusk, I’ve been able to make 40g (2 weeks only farming my kitten off, Orr+CoF path 1), and the buy orders increased in 80-90g. Dusk has a price now that I wouldn’t pay even if I had the money.
As the OP, I’m also waiting for the scavenger hunt. I’m still playing the game, is really fun and I’m levelling other characters now and also going for the Dungeon Master title, only 6 paths left
Im in exact opposite position of the OP. I have my precursor, but still months and months away from crafting the legendary.
I have 100% map completion, badges, gift of thorns, 400 huntsman and Jeweler and about 800k karma. I nearly have enough coins and ecto (based on wikis approximation) to make the clover attempt.
The hold up will be 250 of each T6 mat (currently have about 30 of each), 250 more ecto after clovers, getting back up to 100 gold for the icy stones, and I have 200 skill points but think I need 200 more.
It is a little annoying that I have the part that people consider is hardest to get and am still so far away. But I also refuse to make the game non-enjoyable for myself by farming out the same events for hours upon hours. I am going to do the stuff I like to do and know eventually I will have enough to get the legendary. Just like I had enough to get a T3 armor set and a precursor. As opposed to forcing myself to play in a way I don’t like, as a means to an ends, to get it as fast as possible.
No point in having the legendary if it represents something I end up burnt out on and resentful towards.

If he doesn’t want the Colossus, he could donate it to the making me a very happy person fund. I’m in the same boat as OP. I’ve had my gifts for the Juggernaut since December except the Precursor continues to grow out of reach because its rising price rapidly exceeds my profit from doing dungeons and trying to have fun. Perhaps I should just start turning the TP like all the other gold hoarders?

You say that as if it were easy. If it’s that easy, why aren’t you doing it? (answer: it’s pretty darn difficult to make any money purely with the TP)
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
The problem is not that the precursors cost significantly more then the other parts (because they don’t) it is that you can’t break the precursor down to small bits at a time, meaning your average person doesn’t have the self control to ever have enough money to purchase one.
T6 Mats = 249g
250 ectos = 94g
another 250 ectos for clovers = 94g
runestones = 100g
lodestones = 200-500g
That means you’ve had to have earned 737g-1037g worth of stuff along the way to your other 2 gifts.
That means on average each part of the legendary costs 370-500g… and surprise surprise… the precursors cost 370-500g on average! The precursors are exactly in line with the other parts of the legendary, the problem is people don’t have enough self control to save that much at once, they keep spending it so they never get there.

I’ve done it before and made about 10g in an afternoon, but it’s not the reason why I play the freaking game. I shouldn’t have to resort to making money through the sleaziest “legitimate” way possible to be able to get a single piece of my Legendary when I got every other piece of it through making money on dungeon running and lucky drops. But since hurrdurr Precursors are designed to be rare I guess my options are running slim if I want to get my Colossus in less than 3 times the time it took me to get the other 3 gifts.
Well I gave up on TP, I don’t want to be forced to do something extremely boring to achieve my legendary, I’ve seen how TP works and it’s just not worth it. I could be playing instead of TP’ing, I have to choose.
I really hope if they ever implement the scavenger hunt you have to spend 600g+.Thats not the case at all, Aquiring a legendary should be uniqe.
Read this ;
800 gold? I wish I had farmed that much lol..
I bought all the tier 6 materials when they were really low except bloods and tokens which were 120g combined. The others were around 5gold per stack 6 times 6= 36g.
120g = Bloods and Totems
36g= One of each T6, bought cheap
100g = Runestones
500 ectos= Max 120g
I got from salvaging and buying rares from the trade post for 20s each.
2G for the superior blood sigil.
Equals 378 gold, not 800.I don’t mind if it will be a grind to get precursors, and I don’t want legendaries to be on a pillow after completing Arah.
I want a way to earn Precursors other than farming/grinding the best way to earn gold OVER and OVER.
How about the lodestones? That is at least another 200g.

Ha ha – and it all reveals, grinding is more fun than playing the economy (at least to the averge Bob, Joe, and Valento) but factors of magnitude more effective when looking at this specific goal, assuming Bob and Joe know what they are doing to begin with.
The real trinity of MMORPGs – You can have any two of the following three:
1) Cheap
2) Fast
3) Well/Good/Polished/Fun/etc.
Please select any two of the above and apply to your strategy.
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.
Please try again.
I’m in the same spot, and I have been levelling alts while waiting for Scavenger hunt (been 2 months now aleady, yay). I got all professions level 80 (8 alts), and full exotic (through dungeon tokens). I’m getting bored now though, farming CoF all day, every day is sooo boring. And I really cba to farm CoF 1-2 months to buy Dusk, I’ll just wait, however long it takes.
I’m right there with you man. Not gonna do something I don’t like for x amount of time, while I could just go play another game and come back in a few months and get it for much less invested time.
So you were willing to farm 800g for the other components, but you refuse to farm 600g for the precursor?
Dusk is now at 800g, not 600g. Check again Won’t be long before it hits 1000g+. No thx, I’m not playing that game. Me and my 3 gifts are out.
