Allow Trolling in game and forum
I thought this was going to be a thread about literal trolling, ie making trolls a playable race and letting people sit under bridges demanding gold from people that pass by

Is this considered a troll or witty post? because I find it funny and it is also not a post that is malicious.

Trolling is one of the weakest form of humor. It is like sarcasm (which can be rather fun), but with the difference that the person you are talking to does not understand. The only lowest form of humor I can think of is telephonic pranks.
Why don’t you promote in-game puns and witticisms instead?
This video says otherwise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
Lol, okay, this MIGHT be a non-malicious form of trolling, but I still think a more accurate term would be a “practical joke” or prank, or even just a meme. It’s not directed at anyone in particular, and is just sort of planted there, to be observed. It’s also completely harmless, and its content has nothing to do with the individual you’re targeting, or make any sort of statement about them.
Btw. what’s up with these anti-troll people. In my eyes, trolling is the same as making a joke. It’s like these people never had fun in their lives. I’m on the internet right?
If trolling were the same as making a joke, then it would just be called “making a joke” and there wouldn’t be a separate word to describe this new internet phenomenon. And of course, the OP would never have to make a thread called “Allow making jokes in game and forum.” Because OF COURSE jokes are allowed. But trolling is understood to be something distinct from just having a laugh. It is naive to claim that there’s no difference.
I mean, I GUESS there are probably forms of pranks, or humour, that have sort of a “gotcha” element to them, without doing any lasting harm. Like, when someone asks how to do something in-game and they’re told “Hit Alt+F4.”
Or, was it World of Warcraft, where you could cast Water Walking on somebody, then when they jumped off a high cliff into a lake, they would die from fall damage?
But even so, I’m not sure I could call those “trolling.” Once it’s done, it’s done. You can’t fall for it multiple times, and nobody can really force it on you. I’m trying to think of something “trollish” in GW2… well, last night in Silverwastes I tried out my first chest-farming train. Pretty much every chest, people would put down Bobblehead and Aviator’s Memory boxes, or other random junk, in an attempt to trick people into interacting with them instead. It was kind of funny the first few times, but it just went on and on, and honestly got kind of annoying. That, and pretty much nobody would dig. I dunno, does this count? :-/
The way I see it there are two types of trolls. One type is the witty ones who play with words to get a reaction from people. Now the other type is the very very sad type who for example makes alt accounts and has conversations with themselves to try to give the impression that they are funny by agreeing with themselves through their alt accounts which is tbh very weird lol and not very smart. The second ones are my favorite because I just imagine them switching accounts back and forth basically having conversations with themselves LOL man those are the ones with a bit too much time on their hands and are probably in their room in the dark 80% of there days with no real human contact aside from forums/chat rooms. I cry and laugh inside when I see those types of trolls because to have alts for the sake of agreeing with themselves to have some type of “weight” in forums is just… well you decide for yourselves what that says about that person.

sounds like you are laughing at what you perceive to be someone else’s misfortune…

I kinda figure this entire thread for a troll.
actually seen a thread early yesterday morning get deleted rather quickly. It was a thread about how ranger’s should be required to take an iq test before gaining access to LB skill 4.
…is that the knockback?
I think we should be allowed to troll in game and forum.
It makes things so much more interesting.By trolling I mean non-malicious trolling.
For example, hmm…anyone knows any non-malicious trolling?
Your momma jokes fit this.

Yes very much. But its more of a you get what you give type of thing. I don’t like kicking someone who is down but when that person tries to bring others down then yes I laugh and very very hard too. Especially knowing its a false sense of strength. good times good times.

Yup .
“Trolling” is just an cute word for “Sadism” used by people who don’t know that taking pleasure from causing the suffering of your fellow human beings significantly pre-dates the internet.
i think trolls remind us not to take ourselves too seriously. The ones that do are often bothered the most by it.
+1
Good point.
Says a lot about Anet’s policy on trolling that this thread still exists.
It’ll be gone by Monday. Weekends and Sundays especially, generally get these threads when there is almost no mod presence as people are at home and not working

Really?
…. I tried not to giggle but I couldn’t help it.

I think you just made the connection.
I kinda figure this entire thread for a troll.
I guess… but it’s neither funny or entertaining.
..because turning GW2 and the forums into a clone of Eve Online and their forums is a good idea I guess.

So basically it’s a lesson for people who won’t get it. The people who get the lesson don’t need it. Puts the value off trolling in a bit of a predicament.
Don’t you guys find the game and forum so normal and dead without trolling?
Trolling brings a good laugh to…the troll…
Trolling doesn’t bring a good laugh to people, if a successful troll all it does is satisfy the troll.
Trolls wind people up then they sit back and watch what develops.
So no trolling should not be allowed.
I got an interesting message out of the blue today and decided to investigate. First by looking at the post history of the sender for any clues. It lead me to this thread.
Here is the picture of the message in question:

This user has already caused a massive fracas in the PvP board by flaming and raging uncontrollably for two pages straight before mods intervened. Now, it seems he thinks I’m EremiteAngel for whatever reason. Zoso certainly doesn’t strike me as sane…
Situations like these sure are hilarious though.
