Anyone feels there is a lack of ally targeting skill in GW2? I think it makes the combat feels much less teamwork involved. I know there are shouts and ground targeting skills that affect allies but they are not as reliable because of aoe limit. Is there a reason it is not in GW2?

Describe a scenario where it is needed?

Anet specifically designed the game to NOT need ally targeting (removed targeted healing / enchantments). It was one of the major changes from GW1.

Cutting out the requirement to switch targets from allies to enemies constantly is a good thing, especially with GW2’s less than stellar targeting options.

Now if only they would make it easier to target enemies instead of allies. I mean, its next to pointless to click an ally during combat (unless you really want to see the boons of a non-grouped ally) so why is it next to impossible to click an enemy surrounded by a group of players. Sure, you can use the “next target” shortcut… maybe… if there are no other enemies around. But if I’m trying to mouse click an enemy with any allies nearby, 90% of the time I’m going to hit the ally instead. Enemy targets should take priority when it comes to mouse targeting, especially during combat.

For example shout heal keep lord.

Or rez a particular ally out of many downed.

Hmm, let me reread the OP…

…nope don’t see anywhere where it says “this is needed”.

As to the topic being discussed, it would be cool if there were more ally targeted attacks and other skill types. Why there weren’t put in the game is anyone’s guess. Maybe they just didn’t have any good ideas for such skills or perhaps they didn’t want to limit the possibilities of a weapon since you only have 5 skills.

The targeting in this game is terrible (compared to say, GW1). Anything that involves more use of the bad targeting system shouldn’t even be considered, until the targeting system is addressed. Unfortunately, with the way the game is designed, I don’t think targeting can be fixed…

Yes the target system is perhaps the worst part of the game. Either we click what we don’t want to or we lose the pointer in all the effects. Skills that target party members are just better off under the mass blanket we have now. Even if target system is fixed I would still prefer skills that give boons to the whole group like shouts or blast to individual target skills
